Tim Hjersted is the director of Films For Action, a non-profit group that uses the power of film to raise awareness on issues not covered by the mainstream media. Based in Lawrence, KS, the group screens documentaries at a local independent theater, airs films on Public Access TV, and provides their collection of over 60 films to the public for free. The FilmsForAction.org website serves as a portal to the best activist-issue videos found online.

Dreaming of a Buy-Nothing Christmas

Why Do We Do Drugs?
(3 comments) I suppose if you don't do any drugs at all you can stop reading this. But for many of us, perhaps most of us, we all do something. When our drug of choice isn't pot it's certainly alcohol. And when it's not either of those the national standard for our consumer society is, of course, shopping. More than likely it's probably both or a combination of many.

9/11 in 33 Minutes: Determining the Official Story Cannot Be True
(1 comments) Seven years after 9/11, debate about who was involved in the attacks remains as contentious as ever. Despite Osama Bin Laden being popularly named as the prime suspect, the FBI to this day does not have him listed on their Most Wanted list for 9/11. By the FBI's own admission, there is "no hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11". So who was responsible? We still don't know, but one thing can be sure...

It's Time Anti-War Activists Go Back to School
(2 comments) Activists protesting the war at last month's Democratic National Convention have come and gone. Banners were unfurled. Protesters marched and chanted. Puppets of Bush and company provided comic relief. But looking back at the conference, there is no clear sign that any of these efforts have gotten us any closer to ending the war.
