Forrest has been an activist freelance writer since 1993. He was studying to be a journalist in college until he discovered that the media consolidation trend – brought about by the Telecom Act of 1996 – was shrinking the media and killing jobs for writers. Graduating from UCLA, in 2001, he needed a job in a stable and growing field, so he became an accountant. But he still writes about topics he is passionate about, namely climate change, economic inequality, animal rights, vegan options, vertical farming, and the need for media reform. When he’s not writing activist pieces he writes about local history and sports. He still resides in Los Angeles with his wife, stepsons, dogs and cat.
