According to Matthew Hoh, it is Time to Leave Afghanistan
(4 comments)
Sometimes patriotism is best modeled by those who call our attention to mistaken policy. Matthew Hoh has just demonstrated fearless leadership by being the first U.S. official to resign his post in protest over the Afghan war. It is time to re-evaluate our position in Afghanistan and forge a new diplomatic framework with our partners in the Middle East.

HIPPOCRATES, MECHANICS AND YOU--A HEALTHCARE REBUTTAL
(5 comments)
We can't approach national healthcare like we do our automobiles, expecting to change the oil, do a quick repair and get back on the road. We have failed to include prevention as our national healthcare priority, and this spells disaster for a system already burdened with diseases caused primarily by poor diet and exercise habits. Government does have a role to play, but it should focus on the prevention before the cure.

NATIONAL HEALTHCARE--A BETTER WAY TO HEAL THE NATION
(3 comments)
We have essentially placed the cart before the horse in the reformation of our national healthcare model. We should instead improve overall health by increased funding for wellness programs which focus on education, diet and exercise. When this has been implemented, there will be abundant dollars remaining to fund productive research on remaining healthcare concerns.

Too BIG to Fail?
The banks--especially the insolvent ones, lost their opportunity for less governmental oversight when they accepted the first bailout dollars. Does it really need to be explained to them that the American public is unwillingly loaning them money which they don't have and passing along higher taxes to their grandchildren to bail out banks which were fundamentally under-regulated and got out of control?

Too Big to Fail?
The banks--especially the large insolvent ones, lost their opportunity for less governmental oversight when they accepted the first bailout dollars. Does it really need to be explained to them that the American public is unwillingly loaning them money which they don't have and passing along higher taxes to their grandchildren to bail out banks which were fundamentally under-regulated and have now endangered our well-being?

Bye Bye Miss American Pie and Hello Depression
The world sees us as the culprits in a massive financial bait and switch of epic proportions, and those responsible have not stepped forward to admit their deception. They defend their selfish practices by reciting Wall Street dogmas of buyer beware. Those who have been victimized are trying desperately to survive in a world devoid of honesty and fair business practices. We owe them a sympathetic and attentive response!

LET'S NATIONALIZE THE BANKS!
How long should the crooks remain unpunished? The fox is in the hen house and the wolf is in the sheep pen! Let's not reward their despicable acts by prolonging their terms as our financial overseers! Let's remove their legitimacy and ability to defraud the American public by exercising our will as citizens to remove their power as financial institutions, and replace them with our own banking system based on the rule of law.

THE LESSONS OF MUMBAI (A Revision)
We need to re-examine the way in which we relate to terrorists, by encouraging dialog leading to education, meaningful change and autonomy in the social and economic structures of the nations most influenced by terrorism. By responding to violence with constructive changes, we erode the foundation of hatred that terrorists depend upon for the recruitment and expansion of their support network. Revenge only breeds revenge.

The Twin Tragedies of Mumbai
Let's learn to ask larger questions about our tragedies--namely those which seek long-term and just resolutions for both the offending parties and those who have been offended, by inviting the conflicting parties to engage in meaningful dialogue and cooperation which has as its goal the long-term improvement in relationships on a national and global level and encourages others to do the same.

By approaching our sociological problems proactively, in a way that prevents their occurrence in the first place and treats their symptoms effectively and promptly, we are more-likely to achieve our aim of a harmonious and beneficial society.

Our Place in the World
(2 comments)
Let's establish a new-millennium diplomacy which seeks common agreement on issues that affect and benefit us all. Instead of an "us vs. them" mentality, which pits nation-against-nation, and presumes that only one nation is capable of deciding what is beneficial for all, why not acknowledge our differences and move beyond them to create bridges that unite us in our common endeavors?

China, Russia and the USA: The Olympics and Morality on the World Stage
The conflict in Georgia underscores the ongoing public debate over leadership in an ever-changing political landscape. The framework for global domination may differ widely in origin, but the court of world-opinion will largely determine its success or failure. God has a view on these matters, too.
