At that time, Dennis Greenia worked at a nonprofit in Washington DC that was involved in educating consumers, businesses and investors about the issue. One issue of concern was the sweatshops operating under the American Flag on the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI), a US territory in the Western Pacific. In 1999 it looked like legislation to end the abuse would pass the Congress, but instead the legislation was killed. Greenia wanted to find out why and he began researching the Lobbyists hired to protect the labor abuse. That led him to Jack Abramoff, the Culture of Corruption in Washington DC and a hobby that has consumed much of his free time over the last decade. Over the years, he has shared his research with a number of reporters, writers and researchers.
