The Job Creators Are people just bumping into each other in the streets of New York to draw attention to themselves on national television, or are they genuinely interested in producing some kind of deep structural change? Americans just love an economic system based on one vote per dollar. But when those values infect their political system, Americans assemble in the streets to demand social justice, one vote per person. Fascinating.

Dr. King Spanks Obama: Part 6 Beyond merely complaining about what is wrong with our world, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. insists that we must begin now to imagine and actively create a new one. Contemporary discussions of economics are rooted in the mythical assumption that wealthy individuals are needed to provide either jobs or incomes in a so-called 'developed' society. But American workers can create their own damn jobs, and as it turns out, they must.

400 Votes Is All 'They' Need Until people like Michael Moore, who are center-stage and in the spotlight, begin to address the root of the problem directly, we will never change in any meaningful way as a society.

Dr. King Spanks Obama: Part 5 Dr. King's views seem perhaps more applicable now, than ever before, as the first black President of the United States leaves Americans of every color to fend for themselves in a deep national crisis of education, employment, rights and housing. In stark contrast, here are some examples of what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had to say about the most pressing issues of our time.

Crossroads: Choosing Cooperation Keynote speaker, David Korten, will provide a compelling argument for a better way of capital formation and distribution than Wall Street. It is a message that cuts through the clutter of economic jargon to where people live. The agreement between MONDRAGON and the US Steel workers is also one of those landmark place in time events that holds promise for the application of cooperative principles to the labor movement.

"Mommy, Mommy! Why Am I Fat?" It seems morbid that national security is Michelle Obama's primary concern regarding obesity in American children. After all, raising healthy American children to become dead American soldiers hardly seems like a viable health care objective. But aside from that, poverty is directly correlated with obesity in Americans of all ages. So isn't American poverty an even worse security threat than American obesity?

Dr King Spanks Obama: Part 4 Higher levels of economic democracy are a prerequisite, not a byproduct, of programs like Basic Income Guarantee and Single Payer Health Care. 1) Fire your boss and reorganize the workplace cooperatively. 2) Close your bank account and deposit your money in a credit union or some other form of publicly owned bank. That is, any kind of system that does not feed back into the currently predominant debt-based monetary system.

Health Care and the Free Market The market forces of supply and demand fail to establish either price or quantity for health care. Sellers control the price and buyers have little or no choice but to engage. Thus, health care professionals draw greater incomes by forcing more and more consumers out of the market while charging higher prices to those who are able and willing to pay. This is what economists refer to as "market failure".

Dr. King Spanks Obama: Part 3 Workers in the United States and elsewhere are under attack. This is not a drill. So, for labor to take an independent stance in defending their own interests, deliberate expansion of the cooperative sector in the United States is an essential first step. American workers who are serious about self-emancipation will begin to reorganize the workplace cooperatively, and to establish a supporting network of publicly owned banks.

Dr. King Spanks Obama: Part 2 Through two centuries, a continuous indoctrination of Americans has separated people according to mythically superior and inferior qualities while a democratic spirit of equality was evoked as the national ideal... Nothing can be more diabolical than a deliberate attempt to destroy in any man his will to be a man and to withhold from him that something which constitutes his true essence.

Good Luck With That Genuinely democratic control of our government and its policy might have prohibited the completely unnecessary tragedies of the past eight years, making prosecution of George W. Bush completely unnecessary. But genuinely democratic control begins in the workplace and is then extended to government -- not the other way around. The model is upside-down boy and girls. It's time to flip it over.

Dr. King Spanks Obama: Part 1 It seems ridiculous to speculate about what Dr. King might say to Barack Obama when we have a published record of what King actually did say to his government immediately before they had him assassinated.

Natural Adversaries Everybody has a brilliant solution for fixing the economy. The best ones suggest placing purchasing power directly into the hands of consumers. But the interests of workers and investors are directly opposed. US wages are too high to support investor confidence, and the general function of economic crisis is to drive wages down. So why not just get rid of wages and investors altogether?

Economic Withdrawal If tyranny really rests on mass consent, then the obvious means for its overthrow is simply by mass withdrawal of that consent. The weight of tyranny would quickly and suddenly collapse under such a non-violent revolution.

Strapped and Stranded For the first time in the 20-years that I've lived in Spokane, the city seems paralyzed -- not by snow or cold -- but by greed. The local transit system has shut down, the roads aren't getting plowed, and people are getting fired all over the place so that bankers, employers and landlords can make a haul while everybody else dies. "Progress", indeed. Good job, "America". Ya fell for it again.

East Bound and Down: A Homeless March on Washington Part 3 As a matter of national security, how can Americans bravely protect their "homeland" from the rest of the world if they can't even defend their "homes" from their own government?

The Truth About Ralph Nader and "Uncle Tom" From a more informed perspective, every American should take careful note of Ralph Nader's overall intent, rather than focusing on racial undertones deliberately emphasized by Fox.

East Bound and Down: A Homeless March on Washington Part 1 If our "leaders" simply will not respond to any viable program for economic recovery, then a ready-made opportunity presents itself for millions of Americans to join forces -- homeless and non-homeless together -- to remind our leaders in Washington who it is they serve.
