I am 64, a veteran of the US Army (65-69) and a former intelligence analyst for the National Security Agency. I spent 27 years as an independent roofing contractor; a number of years as a restorationist of old barns and log houses; owned and operated a small cafe' on the South Coast of Jamaica from 1988 to 1993; spent several years traveling with a small non-profit - 18 Rabbits Digital Media - filming the work of a number of educational NGOs around the world from North Africa, East and Central Europe to Central and South America.

I earned a Bachelors Degree in 2003 from Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, WV, studying history, science and politics. Received my Masters Degree in Ethics In International Relations from Georgetown University in Washington, DC in 2005. My graduate thesis was an in-depth analysis of the post-9/11 foreign policy of the Bush administration, entitled, "The Influence of American Exceptionalism On the George W. Bush Administration's Foreign Policy," and can be accessed at the Georgetown University library.

I currently work as the Head Dessert Chef for a small catering company in Northern Virginia.

I am a voracious reader of history, science and politics, gathering most of my information from books and reading as broadly as possible from across the political spectrum. Some of the most important works I've read over the last 20 years would have to include:

War Is A Force That Gives Us Meaning, by Chris Hedges
Global Governance and the New Wars, by Mark Duffield
Just and Unjust Wars, by Michael Walzer
The Limits of Power, by Andrew J. Bacevich

I regularly join anti-war marches in the Washington, DC area, my last one being the Dec. 16th, 2010, Veterans for Peace-organized protest and resistance action at the White House, in which 132 of us were arrested and jailed for chaining ourselves to the White House fence.

My passions include justice, kindness, generosity, the pursuit of wisdom and good food. My favorite quote is from Socrates: "A wise man is critical of everything."
