Tom Degan is a former Green Party candidate for New York State Senate. He writes on a blogsite called, The Rant by Tom Degan. He is the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.....Okay, he didn't really receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. But he did get a ribbon of sorts when he was in the Cub Scouts.

"I'll tell you this right now: If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year."

Corporations are "people"?
"That we here highly resolve that this nation shall have a new birth of freedom. And that government - of the corporations - by the corporations - for the corporations - shall not perish from the earth."

Thane Plowman: Giving Despair a Human Face (6 comments)
Thane Plowman was just one victim of the plutocracy's rape of the American economy. On October 27, 2011, he ended his life. Just one victim, one of countless millions.

Occupying Wall Street for Beginners
This is a revolution that is inspired and nurtured by love - love of country, and a boundless compassion for the suffering of humanity. On November 12, 2011, John Harragin and Tom Degan saw it with their very eyes. Come down to Zuccotti Park and see for yourselves!

Privatize Me! (1 comments)
If the right wing has its way, the word "Public" will no longer be a part of our national vocabulary.

Die! Die! Die! (2 comments)
At least Marie Antoinette wanted to let the starving masses to eat cake. Today's right wing wants the poor buggers to die.
Waiting for Irene (1 comments)
Irene is no lady. In fact she promises to be a real humdinger!

TAX THE POOR! (5 comments)
The right wing has a dandy new idea for bringing in some desperately needed revenue. Tax the rich? NAH! That would be too easy! Just take it from those who are barely getting by. As Jack Parr used to say, "I kid you not.

Here Comes Mr. Rick!
WANTED FOR PRESIDENT:
ANOTHER HALF-WITTED RERACTIONARY FROM THE TEXAS GOVERNOR'S MANSION.
What a neat idea!

The problem with the Republicans is that they have forgotten that they are the party of Roosevelt - Theodore.
The problem with the Democrats is that they have forgotten that they are the party of Roosevelt - Franklin.
Well now, that sums it up rather nicely, does it not?
Celebrating Ernie Kovacs (2 comments)
Before Ernie Kovacs came along, television was nothing more than wires and lights in a box.

PBS Changed Our Lives (1 comments)
We need PBS like we need oxygen. It is one of the few things left that is good about American media. Don't throw it away.

Stand up for the Prez (11 comments)
In a second term, Obama might very well kick out the jams and become the progressive Superman we all thought he was capable of being. Of course this will only happen if his party takes back both houses of congress. Otherwise all that he will be able to do in his final term will be to keep the right-wing tide at bay. That's why it is so important that the base re-energizes itself in the coming year.

Obama Can Learn from Roosevelt
Once upon a time there lived a president who was not afraid to fight the plutocracy. Franklin D. Roosevelt is dead and he's not coming back.

Judge Sonia Has Her Day

Cock-a-Doodle-Doo, America! (7 comments)
Everything has changed - well, almost everything. January 20, 2009 was a milestone day in American history. We'll never be the same again. That is a good thing.
John Lennon (5 comments)
The passage of twenty-eight years does little to alleviate the sense of shock and horror that we felt on that awful night, Monday, December 8, 1980.

No Ordinary Team of Rivals (2 comments)
Barack Obama would do himself a big favor by reading Goodwin's other book, No Ordinary Time. The phrase that keeps popping up about FDR is, "Action, NOW." Some of the action he and his Brain Trust took was bold and experimental. Some of it was unsuccessful. But he saved this country by "tempering the excesses" of capitalism, now bowing to them.

The GOP's Spiral into Irrelevance (2 comments)
The Grand Old Party started out with so much promise. What the hell happened to it? Where did it go astray? How did it manage to devolve into its sorry, present day state?
How does any political party go from the mountaintop heights of Abraham Lincoln to Death Valley of George W. Bush?

Crazy White People (15 comments)
Four centuries of struggle and hardship for our African American brothers and sisters have led to this moment. Barack Obama is not an historical accident - he is an historic inevitability. But, there is the malignant cancer of racism which affects the American body politic that Camp McCain is willing and eager to exploit. My message to my fellow honkies who may have trepidations at the thought of an Obama administration...

Character and Distractions (3 comments)
McCain and Unable will never be able to win this election on the merits of their ideas. Why? Because their ideas suck! What to do? Go into the gutter, baby! Insane McCain and Gidget have no other choice. They have to change the subject. The "lipstick on a pig" controversy backfired on them so they decided to change the subject to the topic of Barack Obama's character. Let's look at THEIR character.
