Katherine Moore is a former college professor of speech and theater and a national award -winning businesswoman. She was honored by the Small Business Administration and the Avon Company in 1990 as a Woman of Enterprise and toured the country speaking on behalf of women's issues. She has appeared on numerous radio talk shows, Good Morning America, The Faith Daniels Show, and the Sally Jesse Raphael Show. She was also the keynote speaker at the National Small Business Convention in Washington, DC and was the national spokesperson for the Small Business Administration public service announcements.
Katherine was also featured in Good Housekeeping magazine, USA Today, and the weekly Star.
Moore joined the Wilmington, North Carolina City Council in 1991 and was elected Mayor Pro Tem in 1992. She served in that position for 10 years.
As a council member, Ms Moore challenged the allocation of federal funds, police brutality, and the lack of prosecution of child sex abusers. Her outspoken advocacy for these issues made her unpopular with law enforcement, local politicians, and the pedophile community.
While serving on the council, Moore wrote and self-published a book entitled, Under Oath: Memoirs of an Honest Politician." The book further alienated her from some groups in her community.
In November, 2002, Ms Moore was arrested and charged with DUI. She was handcuffed with her hands behind her back, tossed in the back of a police car with the instructions to "slide your fanny over." At the police station, Moore blew .00 twice on the Breathalyzer, and the magistrate still issued an arrest warrant. Moore and her family endured years of harassment.
Ms Moore has served her community in many high profile positions, including the board of trustees of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, second vice president of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the New Hanover County Human Relations Commission, and served on the Parent's Council of Wake Forest University.
