A Berkeley Confrontation over Vietnam As a naval officer about to take navigate Marines to Vietnam in 1966, I decided to reunite with a high school friend who was in his third year of law school at Berkeley. He invited me for a game of softball and a discussion occurred at his apartment after the game. The confrontation over Vietnam awakened in me an epiphany of conscience that had been dormant and was a beacon like a lighthouse lighting my path for the future.
