Feed the People, not the Pentagon, on Dec. 13
"Do we want to feed people hungry people or feed the weapons industry? It's critical to show that we, as a people, choose food, education and green energy over bombs," said Medea Benjamin of Code Pink.
That is the choice that Congress has to make on December 13 as part of the budget resolution process agreed to to end the recent shutdown of the federal government. Right now, Congress plans to feed the Pentagon.

The Path from 9/11 to Syria
The US claimed that the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi Arabians financed by the Saudi ruling family. So we attacked Iraq instead. Twelve years later, the Saudis are still funding terrorists and seeking to prevent democratic forces from prevailing in the Middle East. So, in the perpetual war of post-9/11, Syria is next up.

House Republicans Using the Farm Bill to Attack Hungry Americans
The Farm Bill is the nation's blueprint for our food system. The present farm bill promotes unhealthy foods, contributes to hunger and water pollution, and does little to family farms. Congress is unable to move forward on a new Farm Bill as House Republicans focus instead on taking food away from hungry Americans.

Control over food is at stake with Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)
The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a secret Free Trade Agreement under negotiation. It continues the WTO assault on food sovereignty. Access to food is a basic human right. Instead, TPP expands the notion that food is just another commodity subject to economic speculation and exploitation solely to increase the profits of multinational corporations.

Farm Bill Needs to Embrace a Fair, Just, and Green Food System
After last year's aborted effort, Congress begins anew the effort to reauthorize the federal Food and Farm Bill. Unfortunately, fundamental reform is off the table, as agribusiness dominates in Congress. Family farms fail to receive the support they need, anti-hunger and conservation programs are under attack, and the need for healthy food gets lip service.

An Earth Day Agenda for our Food System
The article provides an overview of the American food system and how it promotes corporate agribusiness rather than family farms, how Congress favors genetic engineering and opposes organic. Our agriculture system has a huge impact on climate change and water. Food is a human right. It is often the biggest part of the local economy but ignored by economic planners.
Time to Cut Pentagon Spending - Now
Sequestration provides an opportunity to finally cut wasteful Pentagon spending. Unfortunately, most groups fighting to protect domestic programs have failed to call for cuts in military spending.

New York State Needs to Do More to Curb Gun Violence
New York State passed the nation's most comprehensive gun control legislation. But much more is needed to deal with killings and the culture of gun violence. Decades ago the fight was to curb handguns. It is sad that we now fight over assault weapons. And more resources are needed to deal with mental illness so that prisons aren't the major mental health facility.

The Lack of Progress on Gun Control
Each new gun horror brings calls for gun control but they have seldom been successful. Congress, a fearful bunch, pays more attention to the NRA because they have a 5% block of voters who vote based on this single issue. The 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms is the biggest example of judicial activism, overturning 3 centuries of court rulings. Will common sense finally prevail?
Obama Has Promoted An Anti-Climate Change Agenda
Environmental groups have been complaining in the media that the words "climate change" were not mentioned in the recent Presidential debates.
What the environmental groups should be complaining about is what Obama and Romney have said about climate change.
And they should publicize that there is a national Presidential candidate talking about climate change, the Green Party's Jill Sein
