Reverend Billy running for NYC mayor as a Green
Reverend Billy of the Church of Stop Shopping (and the documentary "What Would Jesus Buy?") has decided to launch a bid for mayor of New York City against billionaire Michael Bloomberg. It could be one of the more serious Green campaigns in the nation, with fundraising goals well over $250,000, and Bloomberg not even having a spot on the ballot yet.

Five-way Green Primary to Take Place in Illinois; Twenty-six Candidates in Total

In Illinois' fifth congressional district, over two dozen candidates have filed for the March 3rd primary. The special primary and special election are being held to replace Rahm Emanuel, who will be moving from the House to the White House. He will become Barack Obama's Chief of Staff.
The five candidates are Deb Leticia Gordils, Mark Arnold Fredrickson, Alan Augustson, Mathew Reichel, and Simon Ribeiro.

Jared Polis, the Democratic Congressman-elect from Boulder, Colorado is the first openly homosexual non-incumbent elected to Congress. And yet for some reason he still believes that expanding ballot initiatives to the national level would make American government better.

Book Review of Rejected: How the Media Excluded Alternative Candidates in the 2008 Primary
Michael L. Soha's thesis that "fringe" candidates do not get treated fairly in the media will not come as a surprise to many readers here. In fact, much of the book Rejected: How the Media Excluded Alternative Candidates in the 2008 Primary will not be a surprise to our regular readers, especially the ardent Ron Paul supporters. However, the book is still an interesting read.
