I am a hippy that never dropped out. I have held on to impossible idealism and will not give up. I think the human race is a ticking time bomb and we are at the last tick. So what is the good of slow careful pragmatism that allows time for it all to happen with less than miraculous speed ? Right now we need near-impossible idealism or we need to go extinct so we can stop killing our planet. Other life forms may need it after we have almost destroyed it. Humans seem to be a very clever but unwise species that is not making it. At the very least we could go down with a little dignity. We have no planetary culture with both head and heart. And our numbers are so great we must have that. See you next lifetime on another planet incarnated in another species, I guess.

Michael Moore on the Death of GM
(1 comments) Michael Moore wants GM to do something different. Japan, he tells us, has trains that go 165 miles per hour .... Japan is celebrating the 45th anniversary of its first bullet train this year. Now they have dozens of them. Average speed: 165 mph. Average time a train is late: under 30 seconds. They have had these high speed trains for nearly five decades -- and we don't even have one! The fact that the technology already exist

An Oxymoron: "Marxist Communism"
(53 comments) The other day I saw an article talking about Gorbachev. The article said he recommended a middle way between east and west, a middle way between ultra-competitive individualistic capitalism and ultra cooperative group-oriented ( in theory ) communism. I want to second this idea and say more about it.

Global Game for Planet Domination
(5 comments) Comments are made that say that all we need to do is to "Tweek the system a bit" and it will go back to how it once was. We do not want to go back there. "Back there" was what brought on the current crisis. The people on this planet must find a fair and equitable way to live or we are not going to.
