Paul Craig Roberts

He has been reporting shocking cases of prosecutorial abuse for two decades. A new edition of his book, The Tyranny of Good Intentions, co-authored with Lawrence Stratton, a documented account of how Americans lost the protection of law, was published by Random House in March, 2008.

The Mother of All Messes
(11 comments) Republicans are sending around the Internet a photo of a cute little boy whose T-shirt reads: "The mess in my pants is nothing compared to the mess Democrats will make of this country if they win Nov. 2nd." One can only wonder at the insouciance of this message. Are Republicans unaware of the amazing mess the Bush regime has made? Looking at the Republican mess, I doubt that Democrats, try as they may, can equal it.

Little War Criminals Get Punished, Big Ones Don't
(1 comments) National Public Radio has been spending much news time on Dafur in Western Sudan where a great deal of human suffering and death are occurring. The military conflict has been brought on in part by climate change, according to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Drought is forcing nomads in search of water...

A Workforce Betrayed: Watching Greed Murder the Economy
(2 comments) The collapse of world socialism, the rise of the high speed Internet, a bought-and-paid-for US government, and a million dollar cap on executive pay that is not performance related are permitting greedy and disloyal corporate executives, Wall Street, and large retailers to dismantle the ladders of upward mobility that made America an "opportunity society."

We, the Salt of the Earth, Take Precedence
(8 comments) Which country is the rogue nation? Iraq? Iran? Or the United States? ...slaughtering of foreigners doesn't seem to bother the American public. Americans take it for granted that Americans are superior and that American purposes, whatever they be, take precedence over the rights of other people to life and to a political existence independent of American hegemony.

Elect Obama or Fall Into Tyranny
(2 comments) Obama's election would signify the electorate's rejection of Bush and the Republicans. Considering the cowardice of the Democratic Congress and its reluctance to hold a criminal regime accountable, electoral defeat is the only accountability that the Bush Republicans are likely to experience. It is not sufficient accountability, but at least it is some accountability.

Why the Oil Price Is High
(13 comments) How to explain the oil price? Why is it so high? Are we running out? Are supplies disrupted, or is the high price a reflection of oil company greed or OPEC greed. Are Chavez and the Saudis conspiring against us?

Can Truth Retain Its Independence?
(4 comments) Justin Raimondo has a good column this morning on Antiwar.com. It is written as a fundraiser. But what it shows is that journalists (and whistle-blowers) who tell the truth in America are more likely to be pummeled than rewarded, whereas those who lie for powerful interest groups live high on the hog.

War Abroad and Poverty at Home
(10 comments) The "world's only superpower" is so broke it can't even finance its own wars. Each additional dollar that the irresponsible Bush Regime has to solicit from foreigners puts more downward pressure on the dollar's value. During the eight wasted and extravagant years of the Bush Regime, the once mighty US dollar has lost about 60% of its value against the euro. The dollar has lost even more of its value against gold and oil.

Anglo-American Ascendancy Lost in Unnecessary Wars
(2 comments) In a new book that will infuriate the fake conservatives who inhabit the Republican Party, Patrick J. Buchanan documents how British self-righteousness, delusion, and hubris destroyed both the British Empire and Western ascendancy in two unnecessary wars launched by a small cabal of morons that ruled Britain

The Iraq War Morphs Into The Iranian War
(19 comments) It is 1939 all over again. The world waits helplessly for the next act of naked aggression by rogue states. Only this time the rogue states are not the Third Reich and Fascist Italy. They are the United States and Israel.

The Agenda Behind the Hoax; What the Iraq War is About
(8 comments) The more likely explanation for the US invasion of Iraq is the neoconservative Bush Regime's commitment to the defense of Israeli territorial expansion.

Petraeus Testimony Next Week Will Signal Iran Attack
(32 comments) The Bush regime will tell any lie and orchestrate any event in order to "finish the job" in the Middle East. "Finishing the job" means to destroy the ability of Iraq, Iran, and Syria to provide support for the Palestinians and for Hezbollah in southern Lebanon against Israeli aggression

Russians, Saudis Expect U.S. Attack On Iran
(14 comments) The US Congress, the US media, the American people, and the United Nations, are looking the other way as Cheney prepares his attack on Iran. If only America had an independent media and an opposition party. If there were a shred of integrity left in American political life, perhaps a third act of naked aggression--a third war crime under the Nuremberg standard--by the Bush Regime could be prevented.

Was Polonium-210 Being Smuggled for a Dirty Bomb?
(10 comments) A conspiracy that would launch a war on the basis of forged "intelligence" and false allegations is a conspiracy that believes strongly in its agenda. Such a conspiracy would not be content with only partial achievement of its agenda. As we should all know by now, the neoconservative agenda is for the US to overthrow Iraq, Iran, and Syria at a minimum.

How Republicans Created Executive Branch Hegemony
(39 comments) The case for impeaching Bush and Cheney--indeed the entire administration--is by far the most powerful and necessary case for impeachment that has ever existed. By declaring Bush unimpeachable, Pelosi is giving away Congress' only remaining power to prevent tyrannical rule by the executive branch. If Bush is above impeachment, every future president will be as well.

It Does Happen in America; The Political Trial of Don Siegelman
(10 comments) The frame-up of Siegelman and businessman Richard Scrushy is so crystal clear and blatant that 52 former state attorney generals from across America, both Republicans and Democrats, have urged the US Congress to investigate the Bush administration's use of the US Department of Justice to rid themselves of a Democratic governor who "they could not beat fair and square,"
