Headlined on 4/13/08:
Can Americans Stop Bush/Cheney From Attacking Iran? The Answer is Yes!

by William Cormier     Page 1 of 1 page(s)

Tell A Friend

The above may seem like a bold statement, but I believe it’s true. The United States of America is operated and kept alive by the American people, not the politicians that rape, pillage, and spend our money and our most precious resource, America’s brave soldiers that fight these illegal wars. Many of our “volunteer military” are not in the fight because of patriotism - but to support their families and seek GI benefits that will allow them to attend college when they leave the armed services.

Our economy is already in ruins, food and gas are becoming luxuries to the poorest families in America, and the middle-class is disappearing faster than Bush’s approval ratings. Millions of us are facing foreclosure, while the oil companies post profits that are obscene - and still receive huge government subsidies. The average American is now becoming aware that Bush and Cheney are war criminals, yet Congress refuses to impeach them, even though there is a mountain of evidence that supports their immediate impeachment, indictment, and incarceration for breaking our own and international laws. Congress is worthless, and as bad as Bush’s ratings are, Congress rates worse, symptoms that the public has lost respect and hope that any of them will find the courage to do what’s right! The only thing left to stop the destruction of our country and another war is the people themselves - but first, they have to know what to do. As we stated over a year ago, its time that America’s premier alternative news sites, Blogs, and every individual on the Internet get busy and come together in solidarity to take back our country.

Why, as we face the utter destruction of our economy and the American way of life do we refuse to come together in solidarity? We have witnessed other countries fighting bloody wars to seek democracy, yet we, who used to have it all, refuse to lift a finger in a meaningful way that would bring about change? Have we forgotten who we are - or how powerful we are when we speak as one? I am not a radical; I don’t believe that it takes violence to retrieve our democracy - but it does take all of us to work together, and the only way that it can be accomplished is if those that disseminate the news and commentary on the Internet band together and tell the people “how” we can force Congress to take action. Yes, I said force Congress to impeach Bush, Cheney, and Pelosi, a triple impeachment - and one that will send a message to the next President that believes that his will is more important than that of the people he is supposed to serve.!

It is vital that we understand what a war with Iran would mean to our country; Gas would likely reach five dollars or more per gallon, raising our food prices even more and would cause unimaginable suffering to the American people. Food will become scarce, and the food riots we hear of in other countries would surely visit us with a vengeance. The draft would likely be reinstated, and even more of America’s sons and daughters will die in a war that is the desire of Bush, Cheney, and Israel, not the American people. The Iraq War and mismanagement by the Bush administration has already brought us to our knees; what would another war with Iran bring to the American people? What if Bush’s folly escalates to World War III? What then? There has never been a time in the history of this nation when America has been in this much danger, all brought on by Neo-conservatives that have infiltrated our government - and still, Congress refuses to protect the people. There is a time for talk and there is a time for action, and now it’s time that “we the people” take the action necessary to force Congress to impeach all three that were named above, among several others - and then, if we want to regain any semblance of respect throughout the global community, hand all of them over to The Hague to be judged by the international community as the war criminals they are! Be sure of one fact; The Hague has cells awaiting all of them, and all it takes is for the American people to act in unison to make it a reality instead of a dream! Remember, only a dreamer can have a dream come true!

How do we accomplish this seemingly impossible feat that Congress can’t do themselves? Actually, it’s relatively easy; however it will take the courage and tenacity of those whom we look to for our news and commentary - and if they refuse to help, then, like Congress, their words and actions ring hollow as well…

Imagine The Huffington Post, BuzzFlash, Op-Ed News, Capitol Hill Blue, Raw Story, AfterDowningStreet.org, Rense.com, The BRAD BLOG, The Daily KOS, The Smirking Chimp, TV News and Lies, Alex Jones, Michael Moore, and the huge amount of Hollywood celebrities that could contribute to this cause! What if they all published editorials in unison calling for a general strike that would effectively halt all commerce and services throughout the United States? How would Congress react then? What choice would they have? This country cannot operate without you and me, the “average people” who don’t have a voice in government - but who could effectively, in a non-violent manner, shut-down this country until Congress is forced to do their damn jobs!

We could configure the strike to keep emergency services operating as usual, but non-essential transportation, stores, you name it - could all be shut-down IF all of the above sites would come together in a show of solidarity to save the American way of life. We have the ability to force Congress to do their jobs, but in order to do so, those who are constantly going off in different directions would have to agree that our future is more important than each of their private concerns, which do nothing to stave-off this war which appears to be approaching sometime before the November elections. I have heard on numerous occasions how cowardly the French are, and I’ve also heard the nasty jokes that state the French never fight, but always surrender - just as our Congress has done! Reality tells another story, one of protests, strikes and civil disobedience, traits that once were the hallmark of our democracy, yet seem to have been forgotten as we slide into fascism and complacency.

I wrote about this subject two years ago and was ignored; in fact, it actually angered some of the sites in question; why I don’t know, except that none were willing to agree on anything of substance - mirroring Congress in their indecision and abdication of their sworn duty to serve the people who voted them into office. I love my country and consider myself to be a patriot, and witnessing the country you love sliding into a police state is heartbreaking as well as frightening - but if we would only stop the partisan bickering for this one moment, we could make history, and with a little luck, survive the Bush administration, and we may actually live to see justice being served as it should.

All of you who are reading this post can make a difference. Paste and copy this article and send it to your favorite site and ask them to participate in organizing a general strike - not two months from now, but as quickly a it can be organized. If the majority of the Liberal/Progressive community would participate and urge all of the sites to join-in in solidarity, Bush and Cheney could be facing impeachment as soon as a couple of weeks from now, if not sooner. This is our country, and it doesn’t belong to the lobbyists, the politicians, or the corporations who believe they have the right to control our lives. This is a fight for our freedom as well as our children’s future.

It’s also important to remember that paid government propagandists have infiltrated the Digg Community, Reddit, and almost all of the social networking sites to spread disinformation and propaganda. Pay them no attention. They are liars and traitors, each and every one of them who support this illegal government - and believe me, they will attempt to lead you in another direction, one that will guarantee that Bush and Cheney succeed in destroying the country that most of us love and cherish.

I am nothing more than a patriotic American that is doing whatever I can to further the cause of democracy, the rule of law, and am absolutely outraged on how the Bush administration is defying our Congress, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights! Footnote: I write in a style that I believe is appropriate in today's world where we can't trust the Mainstream News Media, and rather than concentrating on one article alone, which may or may not receive the exposure and emphasis it should, I prefer to meld several relevant stories together, that each taken alone may not expose the entire situation, but when taken-in as a whole, tend to give the reader a better understanding of the subject. One article or story alone does not represent the "Big Picture" - but when several are effectively tied-together it often reveals a trend or broader view of the subject matter that is important to completely understand any given situation. http://justanothercoverup.com/

Punishment not Rhetoric

Concerned Americans could combine to form class action  lawsuits in  Europe. Charges  would include crimes against humanity  and murder one.  Anyone  who promoted,  funded or covered-up  the illegal activities in Iraq could face trial. They would come from the three branches of government.

If the US authorities refuse to co-operate, the trials could be held in absentia. Then, the perpetrators would realize they had not gotten away with anything. Eventually, they will be punished.

NOW...

...is the time, although years ago would have been better. I've been blogging, youtubing, writing, and talking to anyone I could about getting these bums AFTER they're out of office for a long time now. We have the International Court (The Hague), and we need to use it...the crimes are there...see my OEN article "THE BUSH/CHENEY GENOCIDE: DEATH OF A NATION" and you can read their crimes. They are massive and span the world in their actions and consequences. My moniker on www.youtube.com is THEYAREGUILTY...let's get off our butts and defend this Constitution and the human rights of our world right NOW!

Strike, strike and strike again.

The only message which governments understand is mass protests in the form of strikes and a great switch off, no television rags, no shopping except for food. It works in France every time and it will work here even more because when profits start to dwindle the greedy take notice.

The Corporations will have Bush out in no time if the people take positive action, walking around with placards they can ignore with impunity but company profits are sacrosanct, go get them before the great depression gets you.

I'm Just an individual, But together, we can make it happen

When I attempted to organize something similar to this early last year or even as long as two years ago, I failed miserably. This is a matter where ordinary individuals could make it happen by sending emails and cross-posting this article wherever they can. Times have changed since it was attempted before - and now, it's a matter of survival for those that believe that Bush and Cheney are intent on attacking Iran. Further, if the Presidential elections are to be meaningful, we must remind the next President that he/she will face the same if they decide to abuse their power and represent corporations rather than the people. Besides, Bush can still harm the US in the few months he has left in office - and to save our way of life, we must take action!

Other countries have been striking and using what used to be the American way of dissent to prod their governments into action - and it has been extremely effective. We need to re-examine our history and remember that when we speak with a voice of one, we can move mountains! We all know that Bush, Cheney, and a host of criminals need to be removed from office - yet our Congress remains silent and cowed into submission.

This is one time that I urge everyone to take action after reading this post and email your favorite sites, and even those who aren't - to join-in and help to make a general strike a reality. It's peaceful, legal, and in fact, is deeply imbedded in our history of exerting the people's will when the government refuses to listen. Unfortunately, from time to time, it becomes necessary to remind Washington that America belongs to the people - not those who are making decisions that are in direct opposition to the will of the majority of the population.

War

Looks like history repeating itself to me.   Saddam tried to bluff while trying to buy enough international political support to get sanctions removed so he could get the resources to rearm in order to threaten his neighbors and defend his country from his unfriendly Arab neighbors.  Saddam watched Blackhawk Down one too many times and sadly for him found out that Bush was not Clinton.

Now the Iranian elite is doing the same thing.  Playing with fire.  No one in their right mind wants those fools in Iran to have nuclear weapons - the list of countries is long.  It doesn't take a political genius to figure out what those madmen will do with nuclear weapons.  It is better for us and our allies to face the problem now than to wait and see what the future holds.  Hopefully it can be solved diplomatically but the Iranians watch our media and they see a vastly weaker president possibly being elected this year and know that all they have to do for now is be patient and keep talking and keep developing.  The new president, if a Democrat, will withdraw our forces from the region and then they will have no one to oppose their development of nuclear weapons and military domination of the middle east.  If that happens, forget $4 a gallon gas.  Think $10 a gallon gas and world wide depression.

Hopefully, the Iranian regime can be taken down from the inside.  Saddam had ruthlessly and effectively built up internal systems to keep that from happening in Iraq and it cost all of us dearly.  Saddam had to go (it was US policy even during the Clinton administration) and Bush decided war was the only way to do it because it appeared that we couldn't get him otherwise.  Iran might be different and we might be able remove the troublemakers from within.  It is a delicate game. But if we appear weak and encourage these madmen to take chances with nuclear development then we will pay, just as we have in Iraq, in one way or another.

Keep in mind, saber rattling has a useful political purpose.  It, of course, has a downside too.  It gets the mindless anti-war/Bush crowd stirred up.  We have to remind Iran that we have a very good military and we will use it if they pursue policies that threaten our friends and allies.  If we let them think that we won't use our military we will pay dearly.  Iran has rockets that can reach Europe.  If they develop nuclear weapons or have nuclear weapons they can put on those rockets it is a whole new ballgame politically and militarily.

Anti-war groups are puzzling to me.  Peace at all costs?  We have been down that road before.  There were so-called peace groups in the '50s and '60s who were funded by the Soviet Union.  I wonder if Iran is funding groups in the US now.  Where are these groups getting their money?  Bake sales?  It would be interesting to see their books.  Zillionaires, who most anti-war types supposedly hate, like Soros, can't be funding them all.

Hey Mad

Don't forget the US has funded many terrorist groups over the years and I would not be supprised if Russia is funding the Taliban to get back at us for what we did to them in Afganhistan. Continuing wars like Iraq and Iran are only going to continue the cycle which we will never win. Mean while our country is heading for a depression.

Which country spends more money on its military budget than the rest of the world combined? the US

It sounds to me like you are projecting, inserting stereotypes in your head for reality. All you do is create futuristic fantasies of fear, which is unreality, and make excuses for American Imperialism, which is mass murder writ large. The basic drive of American Right-wingers, who are paranoid to the hilt, is to rule the world, with everyone under their thumb, within the US and beyond. The world is my pearl sort of philosophy, everyone on it stick figures I can burn up, blow up, move around to suit my whim. It is a sick, testosterone-driven fantasy cloaked in National Security State rhetoric and is destructive to all of humanity, including Americans. These types, who permeate our government, are the real madmen.

Right "Friggin on" Mac,

I was thinking the exact same thing when I read Jay (whatever's) "bubble-headed sheople" posting.  Whenever this current "gaggle of bureaucratic psychopaths" decides to shift their rape-and-plunder focus to new arenas they immediately begin to demonize the leaders of their targeted country in a manner that is "elementary-schoolish" to say the least....any body that buys into this simple-mindedness deserves to have very bad things happen to them....personally, this government's conduct over the past 8 years is a complete abomination and embarrassment.....I am thoroughly disgusted with the whole mess and am hoping that I live long enough to see our (non)leaders spending the rest of their lives behind bars.

You are so wrong on so many levels ...

it's hard to know where to start.

This is a case where one has to wonder if there isn't some deficiency or physical damage that sends people down a totally insane path where they can not see for the life of them the cause and effect of situations.

We're the ones with troops in 130 countries. That isn't a Democracy, that's Imperialism.

We're the only nation that has every used nuclear weapons, and are threaten to do do again. That isn't fighting for freedom, that's terrorism.

We're a country still in it's infancy that has the gall to tell people from of other countries, who have cab drivers who can trace their families back 1,500 years, how to live their lives. That isn't spreading freedom, that's hubris.

We have more weapons than the rest of the world combined. That isn't keeping peace, that's promoting it.

We have more people in prison than the rest of the world combined. That isn't being the land of the free. That's enslavement.

You ask: "Where do these "peaceniks" get their money? Apparently you're not aware, you being a "war-monger" and all, of the under-ground "peacenik economy" where ordinary people, unlike yourself, go and get jobs, if they're lucky enough to find one in this war-profiteering economy that hasn't got something to do with war-manufacturing or dept collecting, and then if we have any money left after paying for basic needs we give what we can to "peacenik" sites like this one, poster board & paint. Then we go out and march for "peace" - oh, my God! - just to make morons like you wonder why where we get all the money and time to do such a thing.

I think Mad Jayhawk, who is aptly self-named, not so subtly tells us why a strike in "Murrika might not be possible. "murrikans are addicted to war as well as oil.

We are too diverse, apathetic and delusional as a populace to pull together in "solidarity". I doubt that haf the people know what solidaroity means or could fathom the idea of a national strike. We're too selfish and still haven't reached the crisis level needed. Unfortunate and a bit sad, neh? Sorry to sound so negative about a strike I would join in a heartbeat but that's the way I see this benighted nation. Sick, ain't it?

All for strike

I am all for getting organized for a strike. The Electricians and Truck Drivers will be with us.

But it seems to me like we are going to have to skip trying to impeach THEM, for they can not convict. The votes just aren't there.

So we will have to let the United Nations deal with THEM after 1-19-09. The U.N. is a higher authority than D.C. Though we will be hard pressed to convince D.C. of that.

A General Strike Would Force Congress To Impeach

I believe that a nationwide general strike would bring forth impeachment hearings. Bush could attempt to declare martial law, however, how would that get the country up and running again? We cannot be forced to work and there are not enough illegal immigrants to handle the multitude of essential services the American public provides on a daily basis.

No Taxi's running in New York, truckers refusing to haul goods, you name it and if we could get broad support, John Conyers could not state there "wasn’t enough support" to justify impeachment hearings. How have we become so self-defeating that we doubt our own strength? If I remember correctly, David Swanson at one time also advocated a strike, and it went nowhere - because we had no solidarity. (My apology if it wasn't David Swanson, however, I do remember that it was someone who usually carries a lot of weight and influence.)

Where is the spirit of America? The Polish changed history through general strikes and the French have also done the same. Are we now a nation that is afraid of our own shadows - even when our way of life is threatened? Are some of the larger sites afraid the government will shut us down if we band together and advocate a strike? If that happened, such an action, in of itself, could cause a strike and start protests throughout the country.

No one wants to be jailed, and that goes double for me - but what is proposed is legal and within the traditions that are steeped in our democracy. D E M O C R A C Y.

Use it or lose it!

A waist of time

There is no way that there will ever be enough votes from the right, to ever convist Bush.  Give it up... unless we all tell the United Nations to enforce its illegal war statement.  And that will not happen until after 1-19-09.   You are waisting all of our time trying too.  The U.N. will someday throw them all in jail, from Bush, Cheney and Blair.  Lets focus on keeping them from invading Iran.  Its all we can do!

an end of war in sight

Mr M don't give up , you are one of the best bloggers i read.

Mad and Trigger, absolutely right. WHat most people dont understand

is the war legitimation.

We had GulfWar I

and 12 Y later as a breach of ceasefire Gulfwar II in 2003.

In all ceasefireagreements you can read the term,"if not

adhered to , the war parties shall continue with theinstrument of war "

Saddam signed and breached , Iraq's resources can be drawn to pay for.

Gen Hempey is prepared to take on IRAN . IRANQ i would say since

they have open borders ,

Not a dumm idea is Hillary's . Lets redraw and secure these borders

shiits ,sunnies , curds . This would work fine.

US must govern the Money press-facilities , the airspace

and the management of peacekeeping OIL rev.distrubution. Geographically

those borders look different, but we arrive finally on the day when

the last round was fired.

Here one reporter in Airizona said this today , i don't believe in it though:

Germany, Japan and South Korea were all societies that had evolved into fairly modern

thinking, whereas Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia are still at least a millenium behind western

thought. Also,
