Evil is a symptom of an immature species which can be transcended.

Immaturity can have lots of meanings. The raw stupidity of what is almost certainly the great majority of the human race is one.

Granted, this is an arguable point, but the wonderful advice of Jesus Christ that we should judge them by their fruits, certainly seems to be proof positive that our species is sunk in Duhville up to its self pitying neck.

Look at the world. Very little sanity, compassion, and creative intelligence out there, wouldn't you say?

Are there exceptions? Certainly, and Godspeed to them. Glorious art, the manifested, detached intelligence of science, and healing kindnesses. Yes, lots of exceptions, but these are the exceptions that prove the rule, because what is MOSTLY out there are people who just haven't got it that unless you s-t-r-e-c-h your courage and intelligence to explore at the "big picture" of life (and the bigger the better), you will be an enabler of evil (like the enabling wife or husband who refuses to acknowledge that his or her spouse is an abusive drunk).

Well, you know what; our country has an abusive drunk for President. But how many people are willing to de-hypnotize themselves long enough from their 65 IQ sitcoms to passionately acknowledge that fact? Abusive drunk, the 21st Century anti-Christ, the seller of America's soul to resurrected neo-Nazis, a genocidal mass murderer of Muslims -- take your pick. The point is this man is filth incarnate and should be cleaning our commodes, but NEVER be the President of the United States of America.

Yes, but he IS the President, isn't he? Conclusion? He's a symptom of an immature species.

If our species AS A SPECIES rose to the ultimate challenges of life (or at least gave it our best shot), the "human condition" would be 100% different. Evil would be an anachronistic sickness that was transcended by the great majority of the human race, and in time would be totally "selected out" by evolution.

Intelligence "transcends" evil. It's limitlessly vaster, more mysterious, and incomparably more satisfying than evil. The same thing is true for courage. "Cowardice" (e.g., Nancy Pelosi) is it's own punishment. It may buy you a few moments of feeling "one up", but cowards in the race of life are even slower than the tortoise, while the jack rabbit of science, artistic creativity, and real world compassion grow wings of eagles and fly into the emporium.

What do evil, stupidity, sloth, greed, and George Bush all have in common? They're all BORing. Is passionate creativity boring, or love, of a scientific break through, or the coming into form of a gorgeous work of art, or even passionate sex (since the pedophile pugs seem have a kind of anti-matter sex), boring?

It's too simple to say this, but Goodness and Intelligence are the cutting edge of human evolution, but Evil and Stupidity are the footprints of our reptilian (Freud called it the Id) ancestry.

The fascist/elites are where we WERE. The "echo" of the last 6,000 years may be deafening, but it's only an echo.

Where we ARE is a "tipping point", a critical mass moment, an intelligence quantum jump. What makes this difficult to accept is that it's a species quantum jump because ONLY AS A SPECIES can this evil, vampire elite, neo-Nazi filth, Bush insanity be transcended.

This is OUR Holy Grail. The 12th Century had theirs. Ours is to transcend an immature species – and the act of faith of this writer is that the great majority of the transcendence is already behind us. Ripeness is all.

ps: Speculation: Could it be that the last piece our species needed was the Internet (and blessing upon it)? I once had a response to a similar suggestion by a reader who said that his Sufi Master told him computers were eventually going to become spiritual. Wow, that’s a big, big thought, isn’t it? And if I were Las Vegas, you can bet I would always put my money on the views of a Sufi Master.

Means of transcending evil...

While Bill was a bit 'vague' on exactly how mankind will transcend the current limitations of our species, he is right in thinking the means to do so are on the web. Certainly the time is ripe as history is fast approaching that place between the proverbial rock and a hard spot. But such a solution is bound to threaten a substantial part of those upholding the established order. For insight on the issue, check the links below. A most unusual revolution is already getting under way? For anyone seeking radical change to the existing status quo, this is the only game in town that can deliver on its promise..

ripeness is all

I will check out that site.  And here's another one which I think is very, very promising:  http://www.worldproutassembly.org/

About the vagueness, I understand what you mean, but my intuition (act of faith?) is that the "rise in consciousness" will manifest new specifics and strategies.  AT LEAST we now know that establishment politics is meaningless.  It's the will of the elites, not the will of the people, hence "will of the people" activisms and break throughs are where we are and what we need.

It's been said the "subjective revolution" must precede the "objective revolution" (preferably non violent) and I think the net is steadily catalyzing a subjective revolution.  Maybe this won't come to a head for another 4 to 8 years, but the human cattle  (99.5% of the Earth's population) are more restless and enraged than the elites dream.  Ripeness is all

Our present social game rules (religious, governmental, political, etc.) are the straight jacket which forces us to live like human cattle, while the vampire elites live like Greek Gods.  But once the human race realizes that these straight jacket rule are merely paper bullets, it will be game over for the elites and ANY form of a Have & Have Not society.  Planetary democracy is inevitable.  The alternative is species extinction and we are now at the cusp.

Age 14

Most crook media is aimed at the eternal 14 year old within.  For most Americans (and others), emotional and intellectual development stays at this age level.  When I see a Cheney or a Bush, I see a 14 year old bully with a cap pistol.  When I see a moralizing liberal I see a tattle tail who can't do anything on his own.

My primary goal now is to persuade the PBS station in Minneapolis, that reaches 4 million homes, to carry the Amy Goodman Democracy Now! program. I was in Seattle to protest the arrest of Lt. Watada. I held a moveon.org showing of an anti-war movie recently. I write anti-war letters to the Minneapolis Star Tribune and get a couple published every year. I am a progressive, not an establishment Democrat, and proud of it.

Intelligence and the internet wont redeem the evil people

I commend Christopher Epler (Bill) on recognizing that it is not George Bush and the Neocons that are the fundamental problem. Bush was elected by a majority (well almost). Half the people in the US are responsible for his evil, which means these millions of people are evil (Europe has moved to a higher plane; a Bush could never be elected there).

Who are these evil people, many of whom have loving families and give generously to charity? I disagree with Bill that they are lacking intelligence. History has proven there is no correlation between intelligence and virtue. Education does seem to improve some people, especially at the highest levels where most professors are liberals. But there are plenty of very smart, very well educated people who are evil.

Bill, I am afraid the internet is not going to save us because the evil 50% dont use the internet much and they certainly dont access the progressive websites Bill and others have named. We who read and participate in the internet blogs are very atypical. In every internet poll on Democrats, Kucinich won by a large margin, yet he could barely break 2% in the primaries and even the caucuses. On the Republican side, Ron Paul topped the polls by almost the same margin as Kucinich. Paul certainly is not my candidate, but I do greatly admire his passionate opposition to militarism, which explains most of his appeal. He did better than Kucinich in the primaries and caucuses but still never became a serious threat to the leading evil Republicans. We internet users who take advantage of the organizing and information capabilities of the internet comprise no more than, I estimate, 10% of the voting population.

The human species is progressing. We no longer have slavery. We dont cut off the hands of theives. We dont put poor people in debtor's prison. We do have a government that provides a minimal safety net for the aged. But these changes occur over centuries. Conversion of evil people by logical argument is almost impossible, which is very discouraging. If anyone has a solution other than the internet, I would like to read it here.

Thank Bush

Frankly we should thank George Bush his supporters and team for being so amazingly incompetent that people are waking up the the silent theft of government by vested interests to the detriment of the greater good (if he was remotely competent we would all be slaves by now).

In my country (Australia) John Howard destroyed his own winning strategy by going one step too far with industrial relations.  It took three years but eventally it came back to bite him.

Too many people are questioning the way the US is run for there not to be fundamental change, the question is merely how long and how much pain, first.

Chris is right the system must adequately work for everyone (even the rich although they shouldn't be allowed to hurt people for their own amusement) if its is to work at for all.
