Vote For the Candidate of Their Choice

Almost everyone of us bemoans the facts that we don’t have  free press, that our government lies to us, that the two major political parties we have in this country are bought and paid for by the boys in suits (the corporate oligarchy and their lobbyists) and that our democracy is gone.

Yet, when it comes time to vote, what do we do? We run down to the polls in record numbers to vote for the corporate shill of their choice. It won’t be the person of our choice mind you, it be the one that has managed to be on the “right” side of all the issues, and the one that has managed to avoid the ire of the Mainstream Media. Those that have gone against the status quo have all been “purged” from the public eye by the same people that tell you whom to vote for. We saw this first with Senator Mike Gravel and we were astonished that the MSM could do that to a legitimate candidate. Then we saw it happen to Dennis Kucinich and we were less shocked. Then we saw them virtually ignore John Edwards and by this time, it was old news.

So yesterday, on Super Tuesday, Americans ran down to the polls to vote for the candidate that had the best chance of capturing the nomination for their party (according to the MSM). Well, Americans proved once again that if you see it on TV, or read it in the papers, than it must be true. In this case, Democrats had to determine who the lesser of two evils were, Obama or Clinton. The Republicans seemed to vote on which candidate matched their own beliefs. If they had listened to the MSM, the candidate would have been the “anointed” McCain. Sometimes I believe that Republicans are less swayed by the MSM than the Democrats.

Now we still have a horserace going on. This is really a good thing and I’ll tell you why. Let the Democrats and Republicans spend all of their corporate dollars fighting amongst themselves, and when the clear winner emerges, broke, exhausted and sick of it all, we spring an independent candidate on them that has used this time to amass a well-oiled political machine. This could happen. The best part of this would be that with all the political charges of the Democrats against each other, the changing of positions, the charges of corporate shilling (which they both do, I wonder how they get away with that?) and all of the other nasty things they say when out of each other’s sight, we will all be sick to death of their rhetoric. The same goes for the Republicans. When they are not praying to a statue of St. Ronald, they are tearing each other up, just sickening.

Then in walks Senator Mike Gravel who has still not bowed to the exclusionary powers of the MSM to tell Americans what they really want to hear, the truth. That this war in Iraq is ill-conceived and morally wrong, that  corporate America is selling off our industry one parcel at a time, that the country under the Republican Administration we have now is bankrupt, fiscally and morally, and that the MSM has stifled dissent under the direction of the Military-Industrial-Complex that own all of the networks. You will see the MSM fight back and tell Americans that an Independent candidacy could never win and all the “Independent” pundits will instantly agree. Meanwhile, people that are really sick and tired of politicians that speak about everything except the issues people really care about, will gravitate towards Gravel. That is unless the American people are hooked on the Kool-Aid that has been dished out for the last twenty years by both political parties.

Americans must understand that the two political parties that control everything in this country aren’t fit to lead this nation anymore. They have framed the debate that has been raging for the last decade, and they still don’t have any answers. We don’t have any real representation in Congress. We elected a Democratic Congress in 2006 that has failed us miserably. Now we have these same Congressmen asking for another chance to do nothing again. Our Senate has issued subpoenas to members of the administration that have been ignored. Tapes and e-mails that might implicate them in crimes have been destroyed. Still, Congress does nothing. How much is too much? When is enough, enough? Maybe I’m just old-fashioned, but I really hate being lied to over and over again. I would hope that my Progressive friends would be sick of it by now too. In fact, I can imagine that Republicans with any brains would be sick of it by now too. If we are not, than we are complicit in their crimes, that is something you will have to live with. As for me, I’m going to do everything I can to see that Mike Gravel, the only one speaking the truth, do what he told me her would do on my radio show (www.blogtalkradio.com/liberalpro) and run as an Independent. He may bring Dennis Kucinich along with him, you never know.

What I do know is that we can’t afford a Hillary Clinton, or a Barack Obama or a John McCain Presidency. They simply don’t get it. They are so entrenched in the corporate oligarchy that they can’t see beyond corporate interests. Don’t misunderstand, there are some corporations that are good corporate citizens. There are other corporations however, that are not really American corporations at all. They are multi-national corporations that have more money coming in than many countries on this planet. They could care less about our people’s interests; the only thing they are concerned about is their bottom line…profits. Do you want a President that represents them, or do you want a President that represents you? That’s the question of the decade. Only you can answer it.

That’s the way I see it.

I am a retired opera singer. I was a leading soprano with the New York City Opera for ten years. I am a strong supporter of Dennis Kucinich and worked for his campaign in 2004. I believe that he is the ONLY honest man in congress. He has been working against this insane war since before it began. I am 72 years old and I have been so frustrated with the media, the Congress and the American people that they don't tell the truth.

Okay, you're on!

I have no argument with Mike Gravel. He spoke the truth almost as well as Dennis Kucinich did. I would be hapy to vote for a Kucinich/Gravel ticket. That would be perect as far as I'm concerned. How do we get the people in this country to stop swallowing the drivel that the MSM throws at them? How do they get the people to vote against their own interests? That one fact baffles me. Somebody tell me how that happens.

My family and I look at the candidates and want to throw up. The money they have raised, and they talk about it with great pride, could be used to such good results like feeding the starving children in our country and arould the world. I hear Hitlary and Obama talking so blithely about their phoney health care plans that will be no better than we have now and it drives me to distraction. And until Dennis started talking so strongly about ending the war, they were all hawks.

There has been no talk about impeaching the residents of the White House. Why? They are guilty of so many crimes and should be in jail, not just run out of office. It is the most frustrating time I have ever witnessed and I'm 73 years old.

So, I will state again what I plan to do on election day. I will write in the name of Dennis Kucinich and I ask you all to join me. If there is a space for vice president, I will write in the name of Mike Gravel. Lets make our democracy work for us!
