Bill Kristol, the Worst Kind of Reactionary

by Timothy V. Gatto     Page 1 of 1 page(s)

Tell A Friend

Sometimes the American public gets hung up on so-called “pundits” that are really just snake-oil salesmen. They are vilified and debunked because they go out on the proverbial “ledge” to try and prove their nonsensical views, and this makes them easy targets for anyone with a high school education to show them for what they are, mostly bigoted wretches that think they have something to prove and they do it by attacking the so-called “liberal intelligentsia” that they couldn’t get to notice them in high school and college because they just weren’t, and for lack of a better word, very bright. I put Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Shawn Hannidy and Michael Savage in this category along with a bigger list I don’t want to take the time to write out. You probably can get my drift from the “A” list I mentioned.

Then along comes someone that should have actually been embraced by the “liberal intelligentsia” because of his background and breeding. The guy is Jewish, has a good command of the English language, rarely goes on rants and finger pointing escapades, but is still nothing but a shill for every right wing, anal-retentive, preposterous notion out there. I’m talking about Bill Kristol. Here’s a guy that has turned his back on his own intellectual curiosity and taken up with the savages of the human race, and tries to dignify their hare-brained schemes by writing succinct literary prose in defense of …absolute crap.

I’ve seen him on TV talk shows and agreed to disagree with him in my mind. He had a nice way about him and tried to justify his opinions, but I just thought he was just wrong. During my trips here and there on the Web however, I ran into the Weekly Standard for which he is the editor. I read this and couldn’t believe what I was reading. In fact, a friend from my town wanted to prove something to me and he did it by sending me an article from the Weekly Standard. My friend turned out to be right about what we were discussing, but I told him that the forum that he used to prove his case was a right wing, cat litter box lining. I continued to read the magazine though, just to make sure that I wasn’t judging the entire publication by one article.

I finally followed Mr. Kristol’s muses to an article he wrote for the Washington Post. It was entitled “Why Bush will be a Winner”. He goes on to defend Bush’s Presidency with an arrogance that defies common sense. He talks about this wonderful economy that Bush has wrought. Like other right wingers, his idea of the economy is predicated solely on the Dow-Jones. I want to make a simple statement, the economy should not be judged solely on how the Dow-Jones is performing. Our Ponzi-scheme government with its lopsided balance of payments is an economist’s nightmare. The average take home pay for a middle-class family has taken a definite turn for the worse, leaving 10% of the population with 90% of the nation’s wealth. That’s a good economy?

He defends outsourcing, claiming that it was Bush’s vision that stopped the “protectionist” left from stopping it. It’s OK that all of our manufacturing and even our service industry like call centers and the like went to New Delhi and Singapore and the Philippines, we have Wal-Mart and McDonalds to fill the hiring void.

He tells us that we should be grateful to Bush for a lack of terror attacks in the US. Why should the terrorists come to the US when we have brought our best and brightest over to them to kill? Not only that, for every Iraqi that dies from “collateral damage” ten new jihadists born. That’s OK though; The Bush family is planning on moving to Paraguay in the near future anyway. They have already bought the land.

He praises Bush for putting Roberts and Alito on the court. I guess he is getting a kick out of not having to see white kids go to school with black kids, or a woman having a right to choose if she lives or dies if something horrible goes down in the maternity ward.

I think Kristol, like many Jewish people of today in the United States with money; just love the idea of war in the Middle East, just as long as Israel doesn’t have to do the fighting. By the way, he used to be the Chairman of the project for a New American Century. What crap, they should just call that entire group another outgrowth of AIPAC. He goes on to say that if not for Bush that Saddam Hussein would have been victorious over the U.S. and would have restarted his nuclear weapons program. He says that if we could only stop Iran’s “meddling” in the war, General Petraeus could do his job and be successful in September. Sure, and if only the U.S. would leave Iraq maybe the Iraqi’s would stop killing each other to the tune of over a hundred a day. Maybe they would just give us the 75% of their oil that we are demanding of them for being so nice.

This guy is dangerous. I don’t understand how he is on talk show after talk show, and they never mention that he belongs to the radical right. They always introduce him as a “respected” journalist. Respected by whom, The Project for a New American Century? I’m disgusted with the news shows that never give out this guy’s credentials. I know what they are now, and if they try to introduce him as a “respected journalist” instead of a “respected right-wing conservative journalist” they are missing the boat. He’s so far to the right, he make Rush Limbaugh look like a Marxist. Sometimes I wonder how these guy’s live with themselves.

You're right in all of that, but there are lots of guys like

Kristol. That is, rightwing lunatics with good breeding, fine education, & who use the English language well. For instance, David Brooks, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, George Will, & types like that. Cheney & Rumsfeld -- two of the worst monsters in the whole country -- are both reasonably intelligent & went to Ivy League schools (though Cheney didn't graduate from one). Bush himself isn't too bright, but he's very cunning, like a rat. He speaks poorly, of course, but has degrees from both Harvard & Yale.

I know what you mean when you say that Kristol has "a nice way about him," when one first sees him.  This however is a very thin veneer. A recent documentary by the Australian filmmaker & author John Pilger features an interview with Kristol which is very revealing, because Kristol absolutely blows his fuse in the course of the interview; the pleasant veneer is stripped away, & you get to see the ugly black stuff that lies just below the surface.

Bill Kristol

To me, Bill Kristol doesn't have a nice way about him.  I am not a violent woman, but whenever I see his smug, supercilious face on the tv, I just want to throttle him.

I took a look at The Weekly Standard a couple of years ago.  to say that I was appalled is to say nothing.  It's beyond appalling.

About Bill Kristol

Tim,
You can't help it, can you? No matter what the subject you rant about your basic anti-semitism comes roaring out, doesn't it?
Your distaste for Kristol, which I share, had to include his religion because it is obvious what you are. Then why didn't you mention which churches Hannidy, O'Reilly, et. al. are affiliated with?
And you want to be taken seriously? Hah!

Your comment is unjustified drivel, reflecting only on you,

not on Gatto.

I'm Jewish myself, & have read plenty of Gatto's articles. I never saw the slightest trace of anti-Semitism in any of them.

You, on the other hand -- since I never saw your name here before, & you've only made 3 comments as a poster here, I just looked at the other two. By some strange coincidence, all 3 of your posts either accuse someone of anti-Semitism, or make wild ignorant attacks on fair-minded critics of Israeli policy.

A writer is a rogue goose. All other gees fly in a flock formation; every goose knows his place and time for honking. The rogue goose is undisciplined. He leaves the formation indiscriminately to have a look at it from aside. He roams back and forth, takes a peep at the leader, honks a little bit from behind, distracts everyone and writes on what he sees. Time passes and as he wants to return back to his place he discovers someone else there. Thus he either has to wait until they land for rest...

I am not sure

if all the Jewish people with money in the US  give a damn about Israel  ( I mean here the Israeli people, not elite) but  Bill Kristol  certainly serves his masters very well and He Is Dangerous, sure. So is Alan Dershowitz, for instance. So is Charles Krauthammer ( what a name, for God's sake!).  But those folks are all dogs. They  are there because that is the only way for them to flourish- they gnaw the bones  their masters throw them and they gnaw those  vehemently. Of course, Tim is right- it is just damn sad  we have these  idiots, but we have to admit that they  do their job very well unlike the ones on our side who run for cover  every time someone points a finger at them. Our dogs are cowards.  I want someone who  does the same work as Kristol but on our side 24 hours a day. I want someone barking. So far  only Keith Olbermann  works nicely but he is alone and not that ' barky'.  Michael Moore is great but he is   not a 'talker' much.

Tim, thanks.

Face it. You got caught.

"How dare you."

You brought up Bill Kristol's religion. ("He is Jewish." Those are your words.) What does his religion have to do with the rest of your diatribe against him? This has nothing to do with AIPAC. It has to do with your quote: "He is Jewish".

Couple that with the all-too-often stance from the left that Israel can do no right and the Palestinians can do no wrong, and the red flags go up.

You Know

It seems that Israel lately hasn't done much right. They have Gaza as a virtual concentration camp, spend most of the aid we give them on our political campaigns by donating like crazy to anyone that will go pro-Israel everytime and prop up every right wing neocon in America. If you read my articles I go nuts on far-right Christians too. To tell you the truth, religion doesn't thrill me at all. Not Jews, not Christians not Muslims. So I admit it I think religion sucks. I mentioned Kristol because many Jewish people used to be liberal Democrats. Now I see so many becoming right wing republicans. What's up with that? Does it bother you that I actually talk about it? Do I make you nervous? Do you want me to apoligize for every bad thing that ever happened to any Jewish people? Am i suppossed to apoligize for being agnostic? Kristol is a creep. If he were an agnostic he would be a creep. I think your a creep for wasting my time. I got caught at nothing.

NeoCon = PNAC = Creep

Bill Kristol is a NeoCon, and a creep.  I agree with Mr. Gatto; Kristol's being Jewish has nothing to do with his being a creep.  Many of the PNAC members/NeoCons are not Jewish, and they too are creeps.  All NeoCons are creeps.

PNAC = NeoCon = Creep.   They are all one and the same.  They are synonymous.

We in the U.S. have got to disabuse ourselves of this ludicrous notion that anyone who criticizes the Israeli government is anti-Semitic.  Jews in Israel, who are directly affected by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, are able to discuss the Israel-Palestine conflict amongst themselves with much more nuance than are Americans of any faith.

People in the U.S. who label critics of the Israeli government as anti-Semites are often the same people who label critics of the Bush administration as anti-American.  And people who express reluctance to bomb Iran are called anti-Semitic, even by people one might hope would have better sense.  Ed Schultz, a so-called "progressive" radio talk-show host, told a caller who was expressing a nuanced view of Iran  that he must be a David Duke supporter.

NeoCons like Kristol who are accepted as respected mainstream journalists are probably one reason why this "criticize Israeli government = anti-Semite" trope has been so widely absorbed.

Excuse me

"Bill Kristol being Jewish has nothing to do with him being a creep..."

Then...why...did...Gatto...bring...up..his...faith?!? Why???

"Anybody who criticizes Israel is accused of being anti-Semitic..."

Get real. We can acknowledge legitimate criticism of Israel's policies and actions. But with the radical left, if Jew-hating terrorists fire  rockets into Israel or send in homicide bombers to murder civilians, they think Israel's response should be, "Thank you sir, may I have another!" I've heard people refer to these homicide bombers as "sacrificial bombers", for crying out loud.

And for the record: I don't think Bill Kristol is a creep. Neither am I. Put that in your bong and smoke it.

I told You

I'll tell you again. Because when I was growing up, the Jewish people I met in New York supported things like Amnesty International. The ACLU, equal Rights, Civil Rights, A womans right to choose and they had inquiring minds. Most of mt friends that were Jewish were pretty intellectual and liberal. They did a lot of heavy lifting during the heady days of the 60's and early 70's. Now we see so many Jewish people like Kristol turning their backs on things like that and now support the right with their imperialistic and warlike pusuits. There are still a number of Jews that I know that still fight for the little guy, but more and more of them are turning their backs on what's right in favor of the AIPAC way. Just like their are Democrats that don't support Unions and kowtow to the Corporatist Elite. You have a problem that you need to work on. This is the first time in my 56 years that anyone, anywhere has called me an anti-semite. I guess that's why I have such a problem with you.

Physician, heal thyself

"You have a problem you need to work on..."

Horse puckey. I have no such problem, pal. We simply pointed out a problem the radical left in general has on Israel and with Jewish people who - gasp! - dare to disagree with them. And then I found your explanation to be unsatisfactory; repeating the exact same explanation still makes it unsatisfactory.

You don't like the fact that some people, Jewish or otherwise, are not as liberal as they once were? Well, boo-hoo-hoo. There are other people who are not as conservative as they once were. Folks modify their political stances thoughout their lives. That's life.

Do I think you're an anti-Semite? I don't know, and I don't care. But until lefties stop giving a free pass to organizations that have said they want to wipe Jews off the face of the earth,  we'll keep shining a flashlight on this line of thinking.
