Before the coming of George Bush and his shadow president Dick Cheney, the greatest military blunder in American History was thought to be Custer's Last Stand. It did not take a lot of hindsight to know that general Custer's vain assault on a much larger force of better-armed native Americans would come to no good end. His own turncoat Indian scouts told him the encampment at Little Bighorn was far too large to be attacked. They were changing back into their native clothes en masse so as not to be associated with the white man. But in his supreme arrogance Custer believed that HE knew better than his own best sources of intelligence. We all know the result of that one.
How uncanny are the parallels to the current situation in Iraq? The neocon ideologues who seized dictatorial control of our government brushed off all contrary advice and manufactured intelligence to support their case. They dismissed any challenge to their vision of the absolute power of American military dominance as a matter of right. They fired any underling who dared to try tell them the truth, that deposing Saddam would lead directly and inexorably to an Islamic theocracy, if not a sectarian civil war. They used the power of their crony associates in the corporate media to smear any public critic. And they are still doing it.
In case you had not noticed, the very first act of new secretary of defense was to order more troops to Kuwait to enable sending more of those serving there to guess where . . . Iraq. In other words, the self-anointed "decider" has already decided, to defy the will of the American people, their Congress, and the entire rest of world, for all it matters to him. In his mind, this is another one of those "done deals". The only thing that's taking so long to make the official announcement is the difficulty of yet another con job on us, with public opinion moving ever more forcefully in the opposite direction. Most of the remaining rubber stamp members of Congress are already coming down with a major case of cold feet, thanks to your voices, but George Bush does not care.
They've even had problems this time finding tinfoil hat strategists to sign on to this surge of stupidity. The best they could come up with was some chest pounder talking about "choosing" victory, as if this was just some kind of personal motivation seminar, and the Iraqi people themselves were to have no say at all in the matter. Why don't we have George Custer tell us that the number of Indians was of no consequence? The primary difference between him and what Bush has done is that Custer did not wreck the ENTIRE U.S. Army, Custer did not mortgage our whole economy for generations to come, and unlike Bush, he actually had the courage to enter mortal combat himself even one time.
You see, our child king has already declared that as long as he is president he is not budging an inch from Iraq. Take him at his word. You heard him say it. He is determined to take this country down with him in a pique of stubborn ignorance. He will not go out without a final surge of insanity and horror, and the only thing that can possibly save us all, and our future, is to finally stand up and hold him accountable for his high crimes and misdemeanors, enough to impeach every president who has ever served.
It is impossible to read the Constitution and not see George Bush's name writ large in every reference to the salvation of impeachment. If the founders had known his actual name it certainly would have been expressly stated there, just as they enumerated the many outrages of their own king George. And all that is required for it to happen is for enough of us to all speak out at the same time, to our members of Congress, in letters to the editor our newspapers, and it WILL be so. When Custer's Crow scouts told him in unison that he was out of his mind he let them go. It's not only time to let George Bush go, we must MAKE him go. NOW.
internet activist with the mission of generating as many policy messages to Congress as possible
That's completely right, Custer was known as Yellow Hair and Bush is known as an Yellow Belly with dingle berry's brains. Bu$h was a war profiteer and Custer a patriotic General of the US Calvary.
I say no to Bu$h's Last (wind fall for cash) Stand.

Bush isn't stupid nor incompetent, he got the power and he is using it to help himself and his friends, like the fattest kid in school got the key to the kitchen.
You are incompetent since you can't get him out of power, you want to impeach him but for the rest you don't even have a plan what to when he is gone. The organisation of the fat kid is large and he can drum up many more kids who do his bidding and keep his ultimate control.
And _you_ are stupid, since you believe it is stupidity which keeps Bush from pulling out of Iraq. But it's not, it's pure evil. Or if that doesn't mean anything to you calculate the amount of money every american has to pay to keep those troops in Iraq. It's about $500. They have a plan and they are making shiploads of money and Bush plays his part perfectly. He is not the leader of this country, he is the minister of denial.
When are you really going to _do_ something about the situation in your country?

imagine us, living in the belly of the beast, and being so frustrated with our 'no opposition' government. Prior to the invasion of Iraq millions of people, both inside and outside America marched in opposition to this war. Since the invasion many American citizens have petitioned their government to end this farce. The last election showed plainly that the electorate is fed up with the lies and the theft of our treasury for the profit of a very few wealthy folks.
Immediately after the election, one in which the Democrats inherited by default rather than earned a majority in the House and a very slim and fragile one in the Senate, the conservative forces within the new majority rose almost en masse to downplay the results. Emmanuel and Schumer said that Dean played little part in this "victory" though most pundits noted that Dean's fifty state strategy was a major reason for the House majority. Then our new Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, comes out fully in support of Bush's ridiculous plan to "surge" the numbers of troops in Iraq. Only after his ofice is inundated with letters, emails and phone calls does he quietly retract his support....
I would ask you, Han, what do you expect from the people of these United States? We live in a Democratic Republic and we are very proud of that fact. We believe very strongly that the process will bring about the will of the people. Eventually sometimes seems far to long I agree especially when it appears that over six hundred thousand Iraqis have died so far and three thousand of our own boys and girls as well. Yet there are many folks in this nation working within the system, whether to reform the democratic party and forge it into what it once was, or to bring about the emergence of a third party to bring progressive ideals back into government.
I would say to you that this is a very large nation, about three hundred million of us, and we are rather sedentary and spoiled as well. We are also very divergent as to our political views and opinions and we must perforce find a middle way. This is not the first time in this nations history that we find ourselves rather far to the right, and each time we have swung around back to the middle. I understand impatience. I am very impatient as well, especially considering the heinous and unforgivable actions committed in our name by this awful, awful administration. Considering also the history of imperialism of the west against the third world.
It does you little good to insult our folks, it is sort of my job anyway........I would suggest, Han, that you limit your comments to more constructive venues and leave the venting of spleen against those of limited vision and understanding to me...I am rather good at it. Especially as these are MY fellow Americans and not yours. How much progress are YOU making in bringing about the necesary changes within your own nation?

First things first, nice of you to ask what I think you should do, but I'm afraid you meant it rhetorical, meaning you think you do enough. And I don't think so. And the matters are too important for me to be insulted.
1) You're wrong, you no longer live in a democracy. The patriot act 2 is the law that gives the president dictatorial powers and habeus corpus is gone. Big protest rallies have been disrupted by blocking the traffic to it and by using other means. The masses are already controlled by the machine. Prison Camps have already been build, any uprising will be smashed down if you don't do it very well prepared.
2) _Be_ the grassroots movement that communicates by whatever means to his neighbour citizens. Spend extra time to the members of the police-force you know to make sure they won't ''blindly follow orders.''
3) Study other successful revolutions and unsuccessful ones.
4) Don't ever resort to violence, not even to defend yourself. Just avoid getting hit.
5) Make a citizens arrest of all people in power complicit with the current government you can get your hands on so they can't do their work. This involves politicians, high level policeforce, judges and journalists. Make sure they are well-treated and make sure everybody knows why they are under arrest.
6) Do not ever accept compromise deals. Go for the whole deal.
7) Don't let them play the game of devide and rule.
8) Prepare a new government that can take over as soon as the current one is gone. Make sure they are all capable, intelligent and good hearted people, and no bones-men, freemasons and other spooks.
Good luck, faithful believer in your democracy.

I believe that you let your anger color your opinion of all Americans, a not uncommon phenomenon. I am not about to write my autobiography but your assumptions about me and about others here are simply silly, you havent a clue as to what my involvement in affecting change might be.
Che Guevarra said once that he envied we who live in the USA as, living in the belly of the beast, we have the most important task of all. And it is OUR task ,not yours.
