THE WAY TO WIN IS BY CALLING BUSH THE LIAR THAT HE IS
There is one thing we know. The politics of avoiding a confrontation for fear of being smeared is NOT the path to victory. This we know, that the only way to win back those of other parties who are also angry at being misled is by demonstrating the courage of our own leadership.
And there is a movement right now, The Peace Team, growing amongst our candidates themselves to form their OWN consensus about what must be done to correct the biggest lie of all, the war and occupation without end of Iraq. These candidates agree on one fundamental truth, that our troops in Iraq must START to come home now.
At the same time, more and more of these candidates are producing their own version of the Lie/Die TV spot you may have already seen, calling out the Bush administration, and their local incumbent, on the lies and patriotic happy talk that mislead us to this grim juncture in the first place.
We have been told we must take the fight to the enemy. That enemy is not the Iraqi people themselves, at least it was not before, but that enemy DOES include the lies and deceptions that got us there in the first place. THAT is what we must confront. THAT is what we must challenge. And only by doing that, directly and in their faces, can we win back the votes of our neighbors who were swayed by those who only appeared strong in their swagger.
Our game plan is simple, to inspire as many candidates as possible to run their own variation of the Lie/Die TV spot, the most powerful expression we have seen confronting the despicable falsehoods which have constituted the foreign policy of the Bush administration. Their only possible salvation is hoping to cow us once again, to intimidate us from challenging their wall to wall lies.
We will NOT be cowed. We will NOT be intimidated. And neither will the candidates on The Peace Team. But to get the message of truth out they will need your help, your contributions, to run these Lie/Die TV spots in their own districts, and demonstrate to their constituents that there IS a courageous alternative to vote for.
