Finally a breath of true democracy fills our television screens and our living rooms!

The out of control Bush child has met the adult parent who is not intimidated or manipulated by the tantrums and demands of this out of control Bush child.

This is the same as saying, “Finally! This out of control president (sic) has met the adult branch of Legislative Government which has decided to exercise its right to say, NO TO BUSH. No to his tantrums, his manipulations, his lies and NO to his outright power grabs.

In deciding to say, No, to Bush’s lunatic under the radar raiding of our country, Congress has found its Good Parent voice.

What a rushing sound this is, to listen to democracy and freedom rippling through the airwaves of our, so far, bought and paid for by Bush, propagandistic electronic media as they report Congress’s stand in the face of the Bush boy’s latest plot to dismantle our America as we know it.

Congress has grown up. It has taken an adult stance. It has realized that it has a voice in Government. Especially in this, All for Sale government. It has realized that Bush cannot silence them, control them, or buy them. Congress has found its conscience and it has decided to do that which is right for this country.

Senators and Representatives of all stripes in each party realize that they can, and must, say, NO, to Bush. That they must act as the good parent who disciplines its out of control child, and that if this United States is to survive this illicit (p)residency, it must do what Poppy Bush never did for Junior—It must go, “Mano-a-Mano” with the Bush boy. It must set limits to his tantrums, his threats, his fear planting, his power grab. They must stop his usurping of their power before it is too late.

This port deal seems to be the straw that broke the camel’s back. It seems to be the galvanizing force that has given democrats and republicans alike the spine and the courage to stand up to Bush and say, NO. You are not going to take our voice and vote away. You are not going to dismantle our democratic process of governing and you are not going to raid, forage and sell America away to your cronies.

And Congress seems to be united in this. From some of the most rabid Bush supporters like Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, to some of the most rabid critics of Bush’s power grab, the congress is speaking out with one voice. They are telling Bush, “No, you cannot sell our ports to a company owned by a foreign government, especially one which harbored 9/11 terrorists,” and it is throwing Bush’s words back at him: “you are either with us, or you are with the terrorists.” The Legislative Branch of Government is clearly saying: No terrorists or terrorist supporters allowed to manage our ports in America.

It is also telling Bush, when you make claims that “our government” has reviewed the port issue..... We, the Legislative Branch of Government, have not reviewed anything. We have not been made a part of that process. We were ignored and discounted and you cannot do that! We are a part of, "our government", and you are not going to use us without our kowledge and consent.

How sweet it is to see Congress stepping in to reclaim its proper role and its proper voice to impart order to a white house gone mad.

It is sweet to see the Good Parent sending the unruly child to his room. It is sweet to hear them telling him that he cannot have a cookie before his meal, no matter what tantrum he throws or how he threatens them, and it is sweet to hear them telling him, that he cannot impose his will over their constitutionally given right to legislate.

It is sweet to hear the rumblings of the beginning of a revolution which is telling the Bush boy, enough of this power grab!

It was about time, too!

So the smell of real, palpable, actual freedom and actual democracy floating about in the newsrooms, and on our television screens, and in our living rooms, and through the chambers of Congress is GOOD. It brings with it the hope of a democracy being restored.

But the revolution has only just begun.

revolution

There's a good liberal argument that this whole Dubai thing is a ruse to make Repugs look good to the public before the election. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm sure it's not what it appears to be and there's some sinister, deceitful objective behind it on the part of the whole Repug party.

My name it means nothing, my age it means less. My deeds of activism are mine to enjoy and share as I feel necesary, not as some clown in a small forum's administration thinks I must..This place gets worse each and every visit.

Dubai Port hubbub, bub.

I agree in part with tkio that all this sudden departure from the lockstep loyalty displayed by the GOP has more to do with the coming election than any more moral or ethical considerations. Many of these folks are in trouble with their districts or states and need an issue badly.

Our wonderful Treasury Secy., Paul Snow, has about 100 million riding on this deal, part from his old company CXS dealing with the Dubai Port management company 2while he was CEO and part from the enrichment of his pension by the same company. The incredible arrogance is astounding dontcha think?

Now, in fairness to all parties here I did a bit of research, and wouldnt you know that the main port of the Arab Emirates, Port Rashid in Dubai, yeah those guys, is the most efficient and secure port in the world, or so I am told by a 20 year Merchant Marine officer who should know. There are over sixty ships a day coming into this port as it is the main port for the UAE, loading and unloading, a lot to supply our war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and this officer says that they do this with amazing amounts of speed and safety.

It would seem that we might learn from these folks and transfer that knowledge to our own ports, but this doesnt mean we should simply hand these ports over to them.

One danger I see in this sudden rush to desert Bush is that the Dems will get lost in the process and suddenly this will be a GOP sponsored issue.
