A statement by the Journalist Robert Parry describing George's prime concern in the lead up to the disaster in Iraq. An uninformed electorate along with spinelessness, THESE, not Bush or anyone else are the problems this nation still faces.
Putting all of their eggs in one basket which has only a handle and a few threads left, not unlike the FAILED system Americans euphemistically refer to as a "government." A system that makes laws, only to break them. A system that spies on it's own people. A system that is bereft of any redeeming value whatever.
People claim they were "mislead." Anyone who launches that canard is a liar. NO ONE was mislead. They were, however lied to on a scale unusual even for the US. We know for historic fact that the Bush "election" of 2000 was a fraud. Many people, journalists and others skilled in uncovering such chicanery outed this crime within days of its occurrence.
It doesn't matter what happened after that. The mainstream press, both print and television piped up for George Bush. Beginning with that worn out organ of trash, Fox News. Nobody did anything. Certainly not the 109th congress. It isn't that the information wasn't out there, it's that Americans didn't go have a look for it. It's been out here in cyberspace ever since in ever increasing amounts that are easily collaborated.
Still America sits on its collective fat ass. There has not been a legitimate government since 2000 in the US. Americans somehow believe they have some form of divine immunity from such things. Things that most other countries in extant and those who've passed into history suffered at some time during their existence. Often, many times more than once.
Peace and nonviolence. Two qualities this country has never known, and certainly have invariably failed with throughout US history in such matters as war. Yet, despite this, America still embraces them as their primary tool against a Regime that has demonstrated unequivocally it doesn't give a good goddamn WHAT Americans have to say.
Any way you slice it, the American people have been bilked out of trillions of dollars in tax money. What about "no bid" contracts for the Bush Companies? 9 billion dollars of the 18 billion sent to rebuild Iraq has disappeared in to thin air. Bricks of new "C" notes still in shrink wrap. Yet still America slept. Further, so did their "government" whilst willingly signing more defense appropriations bills.
As far as these two trash wars go, there IS NO GOAL. It is and has been the US position that it doesn't matter if the wars they start are illegal and immoral. "Well, since we're here, let's win it!" Of course the numbers of casualties on both sides are usually wrong in the extreme suggesting that only a couple of GIs have been killed, but countless enemy troops (women, children, babies, cats, dogs and etc.) have been killed or captured.
Secret Prisons where human rights the US is forever harping on other countries about, and denying the American people of, are shelved. The Bush Regime just started rounding up people with dark skin. Some may have had Arab names, or practiced Islam. In fact, most of them did absolutely nothing. So Bush and his AG reinterpret clearly written laws to bypass them, and even go to cleaving up the Geneva Accords, specifically Common Article 3.
Now we've a new congress that already appears as lame as the old one. Non binding resolutions? As worthless as the paper they're printed on. Clearly these Republicrats haven't guessed that George and Company don't care what they have to say, he's going to proceed anyway. A couple thousand troops of this "surge" are already in Baghdad.
What are Pelosi and her band of nitwits doing? Passed a bill in the house to increase the Federal minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 by 2009. Now even a fifth grader knows that considering inflation and other economic rules, that $7.25 will have no more buying power in 2009 than the current minimum wage has today. Further, they can't muster a super majority to override a presidential veto on stem cell research. So, in fact, they've ignored the most prominent issues of the day, the illegitimacy of the Bush Regime, the erosion of Constitutional rights, and the Bush wars.
The American people are going to do absolutely NOTHING about George W. Bush and his crew. For reasons that absolutely pass understanding, Americans have yet to realize that the system of "government," used in the US, is today and always has been fatally flawed. Even the Framers didn't care for the final product of their labor, and wiser men DIDN'T prevail down the historical dirt road from 1787.
Pelosi and the dumbocrats will fix nothing. The Republicans certainly won't. They will "stay the course" of stupidity as usual, and Americans will persist in a system of "government," a social control paradigm that is graveyard dead.
