Dennis Kucinich's Brave Voice

Dennis Kucinich deserves the praise and gratitude of all Americans who want our government to promote peace and justice at home and abroad. On all the issues, Dennis took brave, honest positions that reflect his great courage and decency.

While Clinton and Obama continued to support funding the Iraq war, Dennis said the war was simply WRONG and worked to cut off funds and remove our troops before more Americans died in vain.

While many of his fellow Democrats hope the Bush administration just quietly fades away, Dennis wants to impeach Dick Cheney right now and expose his high crimes before the American public.

We don't need more Congressional hearings on Cheney, the record is clear. It's time for the Democrats to follow Dennis' lead and make Cheney an ignominious example to future leaders who contemplate lying to the public to get us into another war.

While Clinton, Obama and Edwards claim their "morality" prevents them from supporting gay marriage, Dennis takes the truly moral position: All Americans deserve the right to marry regardless of their sexual orientation. Anything less than full marriage equality is immoral discrimination!

I congratulate Dennis for his brave campaign and I wish him great success in his congressional race. I will do anything I can to see him reelected because we need his stalwart voice challenging his fellow congressmen and fighting for the America that he and I both believe is possible.

I promise to stay in the presidential race and continue promoting our shared ideals so that one day our party and our government will be as committed to peace and justice as Dennis Kucinich.

Thank You, Senator Gravel

Thank You Senator Gravel.

You are a true American Hero, a man of honor, and somebody that I respect!

Lets change the Democratic Party. I'm still furious that the IDP excluded both you and Dennis Kucinich from the JJ Dinner. There is no excuse, there is no way to forgive that!... We need to change the conditions that allow Party burocrats to do that, and we will change it!

Peace with Justice!
Si, se puede!

Buddha said that there are no beings to liberate, thus all beings are liberated. In the mean time while trying to realize this in daily life, I'm against the two-party dictaotrship and friendly fascism of the ruling plutocrats and their corporations. I agree with George Carlin who said, "The owners of this country know the truth: its called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it."

The party needs changing, but won't.

Progressives all agree, "Let's change the Democratic Party." Unfortunately it will NEVR happen. Why? Because the system won't allow it. Why? Because the plutocrats who own and control this nation won't let the system change.

The two-party system amounts to a dictatorship by the plutocrats because the rich and wealty can control both parties and so we have two parties that represent the two views of wealthy people, and the rest of us have to choose which wealthy people we like to follow.

A two party system is nowhere to be found in the Constitution. Nothing in the constitution requires that elections be run in a manner that forces the two-party system to be the only viable one.

As long as elections are conducted the way they are the two-party hegemony will continue. The election system is a creature of statute, not in the Constitution. Congress could pass a law that said every senate seat and congressional district shall be elected by Instant Runoff Voting. That way no third party vote would have to be considered a "wasted" vote since the person's second choice vote could count if the first choice vote was eliminated.

Alternatively, the Congress could make a law that combined individual congressional districts into multiple districts and then had Single Transferrable Voting for those districts. Thus in district with 5 seats, 21% of the voters (for example Greens or Libertarians) could have one seat.

Also, Congress could pass a law that creates a debate commission that required debates to include third party candidates.

Until any changes are made, the only way to oppose the system is to at least register in an alternative party and vote for the Democrats in the general election if you feel you have to vote for the lesser of two evils.

Democratic Party?

The Democratic Party did not, simply on principle, stand up for Kucinich as he was denied access to debates. It looks as if Party leadership was involved in shutting him down.

The two party system is part of the nation's political problem by now, because it's too easy for private wealth to buy off two parties and move them toward a common "centrist" philosophy. If ours was a multi party system, Kucinich would very likely be a Green and Paul a Libertarian, and political conversation and involvement in the U.S. would be as lively and interesting as it is in European countries.

Many Politicians Like Kucinich

Are Democrats because they value the history and tradition of the Democratic Party.

That said, he would not be a Green. Kucinich's dream was to lead this country like FDR and JFK did when they were President of the United States. Now, they weren't really peace presidents like Dennis would have been, but war has been the norm since this nation's conception.

You Are An Inspiration to Me Mr. Gravel

As someone who lost his oldest brother to the senseless tragedy of Vietnam, I have tremendous admiration for all of your efforts to help us build a peaceful world where no family will have to suffer the very real consequences of unjustified wars.

I commend you for standing up to all the purveyors of irrational fear who constantly distort the basic goodness of humanity and tell us we must continue to "Fight! Fight! Fight!" so we can "Win! Win! Win!". You are a man of impeccable honesty and courage and a true source of inspiration to both me and my son, who is named after my brother who was killed in Vietnam.

May God continue to bless you as you fight the good fight!
