..like Osama bin Laden and the requests of our commanders on the ground”

 – George Bush November 1, 2007

Summer 2001: A CIA agent made an urgent trip to Crawford, Texas to warn the President of an imminent attack from al Qaeda, after which the President replied “All right. You’ve covered your ass, now.”

Spring 2002: “Commanders on the ground” requested a paltry 500 troops to finish off bin Laden at Tora Bora. No such troops were supplied, and Osama slipped away. Less than a year later, Bush sent 150,000 troops after Saddam Hussein.

July, 2002 - January 2003: The Pentagon on three separate occasions presented the Bush administration with plans to take out Zarqawi along with his chemical weapons lab in Iraq. Each time they were denied. On May 7th, 2004, Zarqawi sawed American Nick Berg's head off.

2005: Bush failed to pull the trigger on a plan to attack Osama bin Laden on the Pakistan-Afghan border.

Nov. 1, 2007: Bush makes the following statement to members of the Heritage Foundation and is rewarded with enthusiastic applause: "When it comes to funding our troops, some in Washington should spend more time responding to the warnings of terrorist like Osama bin Laden and the requests of our commanders on the ground and less time responding to the demands of MoveOn.org bloggers and Code Pink protesters."
