Regular OpEdNews.com contributor Jason Leopold has won the prestigious Religious Freedom Foundation's Thomas Jefferson Award. The Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a non profit government watchdog group that aims to enforce the separation of church and state within the US military, named the recipients of its third annual Thomas Jefferson Awards. The awards are handed out to individuals who advanced the cause of religious freedom in the US military and brought the issue to the public’s attention. Past recipients include best-selling author and journalist Chris Hedges. One of the awardees for 2008 is OpEd News’s own Jason Leopold. Leopold has covered the meteoric rise of religious fundamentalism in the military for two years, writing more than 50 stories on the issue.
