I called my democratic senator and congressman's offices. "He's voting against this bill to give Bush funding for his war, without any deadlines to pull out, isn't he?" I asked.
"He hasn't decided yet."
What the hell is there to decide about? He ran with a position against the war.
So, a bunch of soon-to-be-out of work and extinct right wing blowhards use some lame talking point spin about supporting the troops and you collapse, afraid that you will be characterized as not supporting the troops?
Let's get something straight. History will not look kindly upon those who back Bush's mindless, blind, failed Iraq experiment a single day longer.
History will treat those who had the courage to speak out, the courage to oppose Bush and to stand up to the right wingers who foolishly thought that supporting the troops meant keeping them in a chaotic morass of civil war.
History will honor the legislators who were elected to end the Iraq war who went on and did their job, even when they were pressured by old guard party hacks who sold out the people who gave the Democrats the control of congress.
History will treat those who vote to give Bush the money, without hard schedules for withdrawal as failures and sellouts. And that history will not be decades away. By 2008, the first of these failures in the eyes of history will be relegated to the unemployment ranks-- very deservedly.
If you haven't yet contacted your legislator in congress, what on earth are you waiting for.
