A MATTER OF PATRIOTIC PRIORITIES!

When a man or woman is called to patriotic military duty, he (or she) is not
afforded the luxury of time! When you are told "YOU WILL REPORT - YOU WILL
REPORT!"

Some four years ago, Shorty Estabrook, my wife Brenda, and I, embarked upon
a noble crusade! The media, and indeed, even several patriotic veterans
organizations were shocked to learn that American military personnel who
perished horrendously while being held as captives by some of the most vile
of aggressor nations, were not deemed worthy of being awarded a Posthumous
Purple Heart Medal by the government that they perished to defend? A medal
that costs less than $8.00 to manufacture. So I ask you - "What are the
lives of our kids in uniform worth?"

Some 36 honorable veteran's organizations with a combined membership of over 8 million members, not counting an army of caring family members and the national media, also saw their patriotic duty and urged our government to
finally get this Bill passed into law. This was some four years ago, and in this effort, about 220 congressmen and other bureaucrats, in a bi-partisan endeavor, pushed for the passage of this long-overdue measure!

My wife Brenda and I, even in poor health and meager finances, spent
countless hours laboring on this long-overdue legislation. And finally, at long last, the Bill was pushed over to the Department of Defense for a study. A study, we are told, that was deemed meritorious by the Pentagon. And yet, through all of this and more, and after being informed that this "Honor Our Fallen Prisoner of War Act" was being implemented (what ever that means), we still have absolutely no idea as to when (or if) this matter will finally become law?

Our gallant soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen have never been given the
luxury of time, and certainly not four years worth, as to when they would
report out into harm's way! As a matter of fact, many of the bodies of the
17,000 plus American Heroes who died in squalid enemy detention facilities,
over the past 66 years, have never even been returned home! So I ask you,
why is our government, the government of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln,
Franklin and the patriotic kids now serving out in the Gulf, dragging its
feet when it comes to finally recognizing the mortal sacrifices of our
fallen brothers?

A good question indeed, and one that most whom I have continuously contacted
within government, seem reluctant to address!!

In the event that our government has not figured it out by now - I will not simply go away. "Our departed warriors gave us their all, can we now do any
less for them?"

The Time Has Come To "RE-AWAKEN HONOR" Within Those In Government Who Are Worn To Serve And Protect WE THE PEOPLE. And Where Is More "HONOR" Involved In Recognizing Those Who Died In Our Defense.

VERITAS (Truth)

PS: Of Course, These Are My Own Personal Opinions!!!!

My name is Rick Tavares and I am a native of Fall River, Massachusetts - the town that spawned Lizzy Borden, in the State that was first to fight against inequity. Had it not been for us loud Bay Staters, I doubt if the First Ammendment would (more...)
