To those of us who are so aptly called ‘people of the cloth’ look at the increase in gun violence with absolute distain, and we are powerless to stop it.

The gun incidents of the past few weeks more than ever demonstrate that America has become a nation at war with itself and that war has extended itself down to our very children.

Of course we are being told that more guns will make us safer – that reminds me of the cold war when both sides had more nukes than was required to turn the world into a radioactive nightmare and needed just a few more.

The discredited John Lott tried to convince us that 98% of all crime would fall away if we just carried guns. He did not say specifically what crimes would fade away, but we can see his theory is just this side of lunatic fringe.

Have we stooped so low that human life means nothing with out a gun, or the opportunity to use it?

Not that long ago, an attorney in St. Louis Park, MN, decided he did not like his neighbor and so he (the attorney) did what comes naturally to a law abiding American and that was to level a firearm at his neighbor.

The neighbor was terrified and moved.

I asked the St. Louis Park city council one question and that was that a law had been violated, let’s find the neighbor and ask him to testify. Phil, from the council, said that was a reckless idea because the former neighbor feared for his life. My next logical statement was this: Is it true then that it is the terrorist who rules St. Louis Park. No one had an answer – silence speaks volumes.

Silence reigns where a crime had been committed. And so this is America?

And, the gun stories continue – one law abiding NRA member, whom I will call Ray, in Winstead MN, issued two death threats against me for my stance on gun control. Ray may be 15 degrees down bubble, but most disturbing is the attitude of law abiding citizens such as Ray. Thank god, he is on psychotropic medications.

Ray also feels that congress needs to be taught a lesson – so he has picked up on this one million armed man march on Washington D.C.

Ray though is a friendly type, he walked into his Doctor’s office, which was posted NO GUNS – the staff demanded he remove his firearm from their office. Ray described to me the shouting match that ensued and how his second amendment rights over rode the property owners’ rights and the rights of the now terrified other patients in the waiting room.

I wonder how much valium was prescribed that day, and Ray was very proud of the fact he had caused the fear of God in so many people. God bless the second amendment.

Our attitude is further displayed by what happened to a father of one of the boys who was killed in Columbine. He walked into an NRA sponsored gun show and he received a resounding: “Get a life”.

We have congress that is completely impotent against the NRA because without an NRA endorsement, that congress person will lose the big check hand out and will lose the the next reelection.
