Analysis: The Truth about H.Con.Res. 362
For months, supporters of H.Con.Res. 362 have defended themselves against critics who argue that the bill poses a serious risk of escalating the conflict between the US and Iran. several cosponsors (four of whom have since withdrawn their cosponsorship) have openly stated that the resolution's blockade language must be removed in order for them to support it. Other cosponsors have lobbied House Speaker not to allow a vote.
US, UK begin war games in Persian Gulf
The US has begun five-day military maneuvers in the Persian Gulf, claiming it is preparing for a 'potential confrontation' in the region. The joint war games led by Britain's Royal Navy Commodore Peter Hudson have also brought together vessels from Britain and Bahrain and started Sunday. Earlier in August, a large armada of US and European naval vessels were deployed to the Persian Gulf to reinforce the US strike force.
'Stealing America': Voting-fraud documentary
$3.8 billion: The initial Help America Vote Act allocation that California Secretary of State Deborah Bowen said "pushed many counties into buying electronic systems that were not properly reviewed or tested." Fadiman's no-frills documentary touches on voters being purged from rolls in Florida in 2000 (the single greatest threat to the 2008 election) and suspiciously insufficient distribution of voting machines in Ohio in '04.

Best way to ensure an honest election? Old voter registration lists!
During the primary, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton got 2.5 million new voters to register to vote Democratic--and another 1 million registered to vote Republican. Sounds pretty impressive doesn't it?In the face of 25 to 27 million Americans who may want to vote but can't,the 3.5 million new registrations in this election cycle are a pittance. Here's what we can do about it.

Will Sarah Palin Boost McCain's Chances for Victory?
(14 comments) Sarah Palin, 44 year old former beauty queen, just two years into her governorship of Alaska. is more than ruffling the feathers of Neo-cons and the corrupt among Alaska's political circles already crippled by investigations, but has been yanking the chains of oil companies, stringently closing loop-holes once the hallmark of weak negotiator's in the past, and more. She plucked $1200 rebates for Alaskans from Big Oil.

(1 comments) Any damage to New Orleans on the eve of next week’s Republican Convention in Minnesota could also serve as a politically tinged reminder of the Bush administration’s ineffective response to Hurricane Katrina.

WHO study backs universal health care | International | Reuters
No surprise! The world suffers from inequity in health care. Life expectancy can range from 43 to 86 years, depending upon the country. But the inequities are, of course, not limited to 3rd-world countries. Within countries, the poor have much higher death rates than the rich, and the US, once again, helps lead the examples. Too bad this isn't a concern of our current political leaders.

McCain argues that giving veterans a VA card that they can use at private doctors would shorten the long wait times many veterans face in seeing government doctors, who are nearly universally viewed as among the best in the world.
