I commend Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) for holding many in this administration's feet to the fire and asking the difficult questions that need to be answered. In particular, he is trying to get to the bottom of HOW the CIA was allowed to ILLEGALLY torture individuals.

The following is a transcript of testimony between Wexler and FBI Director Mueller that took place in a House Judiciary Committee on April 23, 2008. Read it for yourself. Then when you are done reading it, ask yourself if you think that Mr. Mueller answered the congressman's questions adequately????

Robert Wexler: Thank you Mr. Chairman. Mr. Director, in January of 2006, the New York Times reported that the NSA wireless wiretapping program had produced thousands of leads each month that the FBI had to track down, but that no Al-Qaeda networks were discovered. During a July 17, 2007 briefing, FBI deputy director John Pistole indicated that the FBI was not aware of any Al-Qaeda sleeper cells operating in the United States. In August of 2007 Congress passed the Protect America Act, giving the intelligence community greater access to electronic communications coming into and out of the United States. I have two questions in this regard.

RW: Has the FBI found any sleeper cells yet? One…

RW: Two. Has the NSA’s wireless wiretapping programs either before the Protect America Act or after led to the prosecution and conviction of any terrorists in the United States?

Robert Mueller: Well, as to your first question as to whether we have found affiliates or, as you would call them, cells of Al-Qaeda in the United States, yes we have. Again, I cannot get into it in public session, but I would say yes we have. With regard to the relationship of a particular case or individual to the terrorist surveillance program, again that is something that would have to be covered in a closed session.

RW: Alright, Mr. Director. An LA Times article from October, 2007 quotes one senior federal enforcement official as saying quote “the CIA determined they were going to torture people, and we made the decision not to be involved” end quote. The article goes on to say that some FBI officials went to you and that you quote “pulled many of the agents back from playing even a supporting role in the investigations to avoid exposing them to legal jeopardy” end quote.

RW: My question Mr. Director, I congratulate you for pulling the FBI agents back, but why did you not take more substantial steps to stop the interrogation techniques that your own FBI agents were telling you were illegal? Why did you not initiate criminal investigations when your agents told you the CIA and the Department of Defense were engaging in illegal interrogation techniques, and rather than simply pulling your agents out, shouldn’t you have directed them to prevent any illegal interrogations from taking place?

RM: I can go so far sir as to tell you that a protocol in the FBI is not to use coercion in any of our interrogations or our questioning and we have abided by our protocol.

RW: I appreciate that. What is the protocol say when the FBI knows that the CIA is engaging or the Department of Defense is engaging in an illegal technique? What does the protocol say in that circumstance?

RM: We would bring it up to appropriate authorities and determine whether the techniques were legal or illegal.

RW: Did you bring it up to appropriate authorities?

RM: All I can tell you is that we followed our own protocols.

RW: So you can’t tell us whether you brought it; when your own FBI agents came to you and said the CIA is doing something illegal which caused you to say don’t you get involved; you can’t tell us whether you then went to whatever authority?

RM: I’ll tell you we followed our own protocols.

RW: And what was the result?

Feet to the fire? How about toes to the hot air blower?

Wexler is the best of a pretty pathetic bunch, but even HE doesn't know how to CROSS-EXAMINE and TIE-DOWN these lying sacks of crap.

Their feet are not on any fires, it's more like they have had their socks removed and are having hot air blown on their toes.

These criminals should be tried in the Hague for WAR CRIMES.

Neither Hillary nor Obama will send them there if they are indicted.

Wolfie

Where's Charlie?

Hey, be good. You cannot just come in to our midst and expect the

company to just give you the whole store. We are mulling it over just

how to interrogate witnesses to illegal acts and how they will be scolded

if not responding accordingly to protocol.

Protocol is very demanding and may be accompanied by great alienation

of affection. The representatives of our fine nation must not ever

forget that we are waiting with baited breath for the next installment

of this drama that we are experiencing.

The directors of the action will probably have to wait for a new script

meister to sculpt the effigy of a villainous character that will probably

become a spin-off of the John McCain show and variety hour.

The best that can be done at this juncture in the story is to prolong the

excitement for the rush of the audience, which usually turns off when

there is another commercial announcement. This reply to your comment

has been brought to you by Trojan brand weiny holders. Since it is not past

family hour as yet, we have to be very delicate or we will wake the sleeping

giant of the mass somnambulent viewers.

Wolfie is just trying to tell you, we were screwed again and nobody

even noticed it except your perspicacity. Have you seen the latest

episode of Sex in the Perspicacity?

Truth to Power?

I agree with everything that has been said so far (now that's really going out on a limb?). My only regret is that when Wexler's 15 seconds was up, the NEXT representative to question Mueller should have continued the same line of questioning.

How else will we ever get any answers if we don't even ask the questions that need answering? It's time that we DEMAND answers, instead of letting the little "do-boys" in this administration get off the hook with their nonanswers that are cloaked in doublespeak. They offer our congressman and women to provide private backroom explanations and justifications for their clandestine illegal actions.

Never mind the idea that providing a candid explanation for what they've done and what they continue to do might present a further threat to national security, the threat is to our national integrity.

Yes, I am sure the reason Mueller danced around Wexler's questions was because he wanted to spare us all the humility of learning the real answers. Keep up the great work in pursuing truth and justice and upholding the ideals and values of our great country, Bob! (You know which one.)
