Eleven million strong we stood in an unprecedented act of international humanism. People from many nations stood together. We did not stand in harmony. We bickered with each other. We were bigoted and nationalistic and as human as we have ever been. But in this we stood together and said “No!” to the American President’s invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. It is unusual to gather a few hundreds of people together in common cause, but that day we gathered eleven million.
The words keep echoing in my brain – eleven million stood in opposition. Eleven million opposed to that war. Eleven million.
