Ron Paul and The Gold Standard:

Tell A Friend

Good Morning Middle America, welcome to your King of Simple News Network, where those who actually have to go to work everyday, get their news from those of us who actually have to go to work every day.

U.S. NEWS: Alert Reader (screen name - Alaska Rose), asked me to comment on Presidential hopeful Ron Paul, and also asked what I believed the dollar would be worth if we were to return to the gold standard.

On the first issue, it is very difficult for me to understand how any Middle American could not find themselves akin to the honesty and candor of Congressman Ron Paul. Call me crazy, but I have spent, and continue to spend, thousands of hours pouring over facts and figures that affect the ability of this country to survive intact, and Ron Paul’s philosophies seem our only hope at this particular juncture; at least for those of us in Middle America.

Abolish the IRS and the FED, says Mr. Paul. Get out of Iraq. Adhere to the Constitution. Reduce the size of Government. Wow, is this guy some kind of a nut job?

No, he’s a former medical doctor who has delivered more than 4,000 babies and formerly served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon. He is handily re-elected by his home constituents. He has NEVER taken a junket from a lobbyist. He has NEVER voted to raise taxes. He has continually voted to reduce spending and he doesn’t participate in the Congressional retirement plan. What a loser huh? His opponents very much hope that you believe just that. But then, I very much hope that you don’t.

Let’s look at just a couple of Mr. Paul’s points. Abolish the IRS: “Oh my gosh, we’ll all die.” Well, not really. If spending were reduced to the levels of the year 2000, we wouldn’t need the IRS. You see, the increases in spending since 2000, represent more than all the annual IRS collections. I heard that, “He’s just making that up.” Honest, I’m not.

What about abolishing the FED? I personally believe the FED and Alan Greenspan in particular have created much of this mess that we currently find ourselves in. So yes, I’m a proponent of not creating wealth with inflation and a printing press that has no backing other than government’s ability to tax it’s subjects… I mean citizens. Apparently the rest of the world agrees, as our dollar shrinks daily against nearly every currency in the world.

So now, a big one, the Iraq war. This is the largest talking point in the U.S., as it should be. Remember now, in my previous life I was a veteran, an old red-neck bush pilot and an Alaskan saloon owner. The point that I continue to make is, “We don’t have any help over there and we never did.” When we have that support from the remainder of the civilized world, we then have a cause that we can pursue. But, the little support that we did have, got their hat and went home. Ron Paul thinks we should do the same. And, at last count, about 70% of Americans agree. Congress doesn’t go to war, they send people to war.

So, take a look at Ron Paul, (ronpaul2008.com) and give me the downsides as well as the upsides. Tell me why your candidate is a better choice. I ask for civil discussions. I try hard every day to bring Middle American’s back together, please do the same and we may pull this thing off.

On the question of what the dollar would be worth if all dollars in circulation were compared to gold on hand? Some portion of a penny; so get out your metal snips.

I’ll write further on both of the above subjects, because they are important. I WANT to hear your comments.

Wake-Up Middle America, we’re burning daylight.

Ron Paul is The Gold Standard!

Ron Paul is the gold standard we should be holding all of our elected officals to. Honesty and integrity are wanted by the American taxpayers. This is why he is winning. Ron Paul can no longer be labeled a "long shot" candidate. He has clearly surpassed John McCain and is now a "top tier" candidate. I have gathered the evidence and created a website.

Please visit www.thecaseforronpaul.com and judge for yourself.

Personal Integrity

Mike,

You mentioned the retirment fund briefly, but to me this one point exemplifies totally what Ron Paul is about and I'd like to elaborate.

The Congressional Pension, of course designed and voted upon by Congress themselves, can be worth MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars so that any person who spends only 5 years in Congress can live the rest of their lives in luxury! They also get Social Security like the rest of us, but we all that's hardly enough for anybody.

Their salary is already huge, around $160,000, but this pension is criminal.  Even their spouse continues to receive it after their death.

How many congressmen could possibly resist the temptation to accept this taxpayer theft?  ONE.  Ron Paul.  Not because he is Romney-rich.  Because it's immoral.

To me, this one thing says it all.  This is the kind of person he is, and the kind of president he would be.  And examples like this go on and on.

Yep, maybe he IS crazy for being such a brave, honest stateman.  Then I want a crazy president!

Mike, thanks for a great article, and the opportunity to talk about the only candidate I've ever contributed money to (and I'm 52!).

Mitch,

I've never written so, but...Ron Paul is the only candidate that I have ever contributed to thier cause...and I'm 60!

I wrote the book, "The Biggest Lie Ever Believed" last year, and promised that if any candidate would tell the absolute truth, I'd jump in and support them. I figured my money was safe.

The U.S. is broke for all practical conversation. In a short 27 year period, we went from the world's largest creditor to that of the world's largest debtor, with little or no resistance from our elected officials with the exception of Ron Paul.

Some things that depart from the norm, just ain't radical.

Thanks for the comment. Mike

Not true, Mike, Johnny Howard supports the Bush madness

What about abolishing the FED? I personally believe the FED and Alan Greenspan in particular have created much of this mess that we currently find ourselves in. So yes, I’m a proponent of not creating wealth with inflation and a printing press that has no backing other than government’s ability to tax its subjects… I mean citizens. Apparently the rest of the world agrees, as our dollar shrinks daily against nearly every currency in the world.
Apparently very few people know that the Federal Reserve Bank is a private institution, owned by private banks and a few wealthy and well-connected private individuals, who are not necessarily American. Apparently nobody knows what exactly is going on inside the Fed, because it is unaudited. Some say that the Fed has the power to create and stop depressions, simply by manipulating the money supply, that is, by putting money into or taking money out of the economy. When the government needs money, the Fed creates it, out of nothing, by simply typing a figure, with at least 9 zeroes at the end, onto a computer screen. It’s called fiat money. But the trick is that the government has to give this money back to the Fed ... with interest! That’s right, this monopoly money accrues interest, which goes to the owners of the Fed, whoever they may be. Correct me if the above is wrong, but if it is right, can you see the absurdity of it all? It is said that all the income tax the IRS collects goes to pay this interest. This interest is a real deduction out of people’s pay packet. And more and more people are saying income tax collection has no legal basis in America. Certainly you Americans should (try and) abolish the Fed.

Not true, Mike. There is still a pocket of support. It’s pint-size, but to the 1600 Australian soldiers it involves, it will be real enough once they start having to cope with Gulf War Syndrome, cancer, caused by all the depleted uranium unleashed in Iraq. That support is, of course, little Johnny Howard, Prime Minister of Australia. Thank heavens all the indications are he will lose his own seat at Australia’s federal elections next week, a likely rout for the warmongers and a victory for the “bring the troops home” opposition party.

Good to see that Ron Paul is a doctor. A wise man once said that medical knowledge and orientation is a prerequisite for being a good and wise governor.

Thanks to the Land Down Under:

Robert,

Thank you for your well written post. You are certainly right about the FED being a quasi and not official government institution. But, the winks and nods and private meeting with the President in power, has, shall we say, influence.

The fact that I said we had no help, was in no way demeaning to your boys who were assigned to service in Iraq. I am talking about a true all out coalition. The common Australian citizen or Middle Class faces the same issues as Americans. I flew with an Australian pilot for some time and learned that we were very much alike.

I have written articles on the subjects that you mentioned and yes, the FED has the power to stop and start the economy...for a time. The outstanding capital and debt at this time, combined with the real inflation and the foreign debt that we are incurring daily, has severely limited the FEDS options. The U.S. is dancing on the edge of the volcano and betting it won't erupt.

The game is nearly over and soon one of our major creditors will say, "Fish or cut bait." Well, get the knives out.

Thanks again for your response, Mike Folkerth, King of Simple.

Ron Paul supporters...we're everywhere

Hi Mike,

I am new to this forum.  I enjoyed your article.  As an unwavering RP supporter, it is very hard to articulate to others how liberating (now there's a great choice for a word) it is to become familiar with a virtual unknown entity, that has been right under my (our) nose for years.  Dr. Paul has been diligently working for all Americans from his Congessional seat for over a combined 20 years!  Yet nobody ever heard about this remarkable man.  In taking a line from a well known radio /television consevative talk show host, "Ron Paul is a GREAT AMERICAN!"

He is the only candidate I have ever donated money to.

He is the only candidate I have ever promoted with a bumper sticker on my car.

He is the only candidate I have ever written a "letter to the editor"  to my local newspaper.

He is the only candidate I have ever bothered to support on an "on line" forum or discussion group.

He is the only candidate I have openly promoted by waving a "Ron Paul for President" sign on the side of the road during rush hour on a busy street.

I could go on.  If this sounds crazy to you or others not profoudly touched by this incredible man, you can only imagine what my wife and kids think!

Ron Paul phenon:

Hello rp4me,

What a nice and refreshing note. And, for your sense of sanity, I get it. Government is like a slow moving disease, it grows and grows until it kills you. Maybe not in the sense of stopping breathing, but in the sense of stopping thinking!

Once we count of Government for everything, not only do we stop thinking, we stop living in real terms. Freedom is the most powerful force on earth right behind compound interest.

Ron Paul is such a breath of freedom that I can hardly contain myself. I lived for years in Talkeetna Alaska. No police, no mayor, no council, no government weight to drag us down. Oh, I forgot something, no problems.

Yes, it was a small population. But it was a microcosm that displays the ability of American Middle Class to self govern and live totally free without excessive government intervention. Counting on government is like swimming all of your life with a pair of water wings or never taking the training wheels off your bike.

Here's the thing; what we are doing isn't working for more reasons than I have space to write. Give this smaller government, reduced spending and freedom thing a chance. After all, that is the basis that created the greatest country on earth, America. Politicians destroyed it.

Stay out on the that street corner and keep waving those signs. In the words of Congressman David Crockett, "Always be sure you are right, and then go ahead." This time, we are right. Wake up Middle America, this is your final boarding call.

Ron paul is a phenomenon

I am not even a US Citizen, and I do not have much interest in the domestic Rep vs Dem politics here. But surprisingly Dr. RonPaul caught my attention from a youtube video. I was simply amazed by the candor and guts of the man who said that part of the reason for the terrorist attack on the US Mainland was due to the cumulative anger against the foreign policies of the successive US administrations. I couldnt agree more. The goodwill that the attack on 9/11 generated for giving a forceful reply was squandered by the meaningless policies of Regime change. Isnt it so hard to imagine by the wizards at the Federal Offices that regime changes work only if the local populace desires it and if so such an attack and thereby destruction of the old guard is best achieved during a popular uprising? A good pointer of my comment is the Independence of East Pakistan or Bengladesh by Indian soldiers even in the face of a possible intervention (again against popular mood) by the USS Enterprise during 1971. The only instance I can see where a regime change worked without any of the above was for the 3rd Reich. But the dastardly acts of that regime warranted that the Pan -international forces to join together to put a just end to it.

The economic policies suggested by Dr.Paul are radical and so have an outside chance of bringing success, however I wonder how poor people will adjust the situation where the government suddenly leaves them in the lurch, for e.g. college students depending on tuition assistance and scholarships or retireees waiting for retirement benefits.

Whatever Pro Israeli lobbyists and Neocons may argue about the "bad" of the rest of the middle east, unless the governments of Israel and the governments of the region sit down and chalk a way of getting people out to work, earn a livelihood and live in decency this circle of violence has little chance of abatment.  I would have been happier if RonPaul advocated a more energetic policies towards genocide in Africa. There I must say, I was disappointed. If the policy of non-intervention means sitting tight and not helping someone in trouble, I am against it. We the humans living in this planet owe it to each other to bring solace in the very least. Money was a later invention, empathy and love were even more primal notions than wealth.

Reply: Clarity to the subject:

First I need to set the stage in order to answer some of your questions. Ron Paul is not running for Dictator of the U.S., he is running for president. Should the good voters finally believe that they have had enough and send him some help in the way of a new congress, there will be give and take and a more moderate position will prevail.

Secondly, the U.S. represents only 4.8% of the people on earth. We are the largest debtor nation on earth and we are failing economically in our own country. So, to the point of helping out the rest of the world? Quite frankly, we need a little help from the rest of the world. Until such time as the rest of the world deems it appropriate to give that help, there is little we can do.

To the last point that I mentioned, I give you that we have not been great partners, it has been a sort of my way or the highway approach.

There are problems that face the U.S. that are so urgent, such as restoring our economy to a somewhat sustainable basis, that little else is of great importance. If we are flat broke, we can't help anyone.

Once out of Iraq and the zillion other places that we currently reside and once the useless spending is curtailed, we may have the stength and the weath to once more help others. I believe that Ron Paul is the person who could lead us to that recovery.

Please check my post tomorrow, the housing collapse was not an accident of nature.

Thank you for your input.
