Mr. Chabot from Ohio said, “It would be wrong for you to tell America's children that some lies are all right. It would be wrong to show the rest of the world that some of our laws don't really matter.”

Mr. Sensenbrenner explained that you had to impeach the President, “...because of our devotion to the rule of law and our fear that if the president does not suffer the legal and constitutional consequences of his actions, the impact of allowing the president to stand above the law will be felt for generations to come...”

Illinois' own Henry Hyde was overflowing with righteous indignation: “Do we still have a government of laws and not of men? Does the law apply to some people with force and ferocity while the powerful are immune? Do we have one set of laws for the officers and another for the enlisted? Should we?”

Gentlemen, I couldn't agree more, so I have to ask, “What happened?” When did some lies become all right? When did your devotion to the rule of law end? When did you forsake your oath to protect and defend the Constitution, and start to protect and defend a President who lies almost every time he opens his mouth?

Respected Republicans who have worked in the Whitehouse have testified that George W. Bush came into office, itching to go to war with Iraq. Now, thanks to you and a bunch of gutless Democrats we are in that war, and there is ample evidence that George W. Bush lied to the American people and Congress to get us there. Why hasn't this been investigated?

Bush's stunning incompetence and mismanagement may not be impeachable offenses, but according to you, lying is. It is time to hold him accountable for his lies. If lying about a personal indiscretion is an impeachable offense, what do you consider lying to start a war?

Now, while dead bodies still float the flood waters of New Orleans, Bush is back in Washington to attend to more important matters—passing another tax break for the rich and packing the Supreme Court. What are you going to do?

Your party controls the House of Representatives, and you have abetted the crimes and misdemeanors of the Bush Administration long enough. It is time for men of integrity to act.

Instead of sitting idly by while Bush contaminates our highest court with right-wing ideologues—it is your Constitutional duty to impeach him. He has done enough damage to America and the world.

“...this President and his Administration must be held accountable for their misdeeds. If we in the House of Representatives, as the body charged with oversight of the executive branch, do not hold him accountable, then we have no legitimate claim to governing this country.”-- Bob Barr (R-GA)
