Why is there such a rush to start a war with Iran?

Why is there such a rush to start a war with Iran? Senator Lieberman and Senator Kyl are amending the 2008 military appropriations bill. My concern with this amendment is that it could be misconstrued to authorize the use of military force against Iran. The language allows for the use of military force against Iran inside Iraq, but does not contain any language that would prevent the conflict from stopping at Iraq’s border.

Iran is not an imminent threat to our country. We can pretty well cut them off from the world or bomb them back to the Stone Age any time we want. It seems the only people who actually take them seriously are BUSH & CHENEY. The brilliant chief architects of this lovely mess, the occupation of Iraq. Do we really want these guys planning another war? They have fired all of the talented military men that where in command. Any one who disagreed with the neo-convict ideology got the ax.

Bush wants to spread freedom he says. I think the only freedom he wants to spread is the freedom of corporations the likes of Halliburton to pillage the U.S. treasury and steal 3rd world oil to sell back to Americans or Europeans and Chinese for unprecedented profits. I wish he could spread wisdom because this is the only thing in short supply in congress and the White House.

It is said that Iran is supplying weapons to the insurgents that are killing Americans. I believe this to be true also. We supply weapons that kill people every day in almost every part of the world. Hell we lost nearly 200,000 AK47’s and hand guns under the keen observation of David Petraeus. Tell me those weapons aren’t in the hands of the insurgents.

I am not a pacifist and there is a time to go to war but this is not the time. This is the time to sit down at the negotiation table with our friends and enemies. A similar situation happened in the Balkans with sectarian violence under the watch of President Bill Clinton. The Balkans are at peace today through the efforts of many. The U.S., the European Union and the United Nations, all of which worked to help mediate an end to the conflict and a similar strategy should have been our Iraq policy from the beginning.

So instead of going to war with Iran let’s negotiate with all the powers in the region. The U.N. has pledged to become more involved. Europe’s new leaders Nicolas Sarkozy, Angela Merkel and Gordon Brown understand they are the ones who will be most affected by an all out regional conflict seem willing to assist. The Saudi, Jordanian and Syrian governments know that escalation of conflict will only be a major security threat to them. The Turks and Kurds are cooperating along their border.

Iran would be unlikely to isolate itself from an international program aimed at reconciliation. If it did it would only hand a political victory to us and those in the region who would prefer to minimize Iranian influence.

A line from Sun Tzu and used in The Godfather comes to mind, to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Why are we not negotiating with all the parties in this region?
