US Internet News Editor Scores Big in DC Madam Case - Bloggers Doing Major Research

Lori Price, editor of Citizens for Legitimate Government , a true Internet news site, got on an exclusive release list for the D.C. Madam’s phone records from non other than D.C. Madam Deborah Jane Palfrey. When I saw this, I was happy to hear that CLG and Lori got the exclusive. Then it dawned on me, SHE GOT THE RECORDS. She's one of us, in a broad sense, a true internet news service editor and publisher.

But wait, didn't ABC's Brian Ross have access to these records for days. Didn't Ross (who I like) say that there wasn't much of interest there. I'd sure hate to be one of his research associates...becasue Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) would certainly have been of great interest.

The Australian Sydney Morning Herald did a great article on the RECORDS and the intense search of those numbers by US bloggers. This is a major event for the internet news providers. Along with publisher Larry Flynt, CLG and Price got a second look at what ABC combed over and they did an better job than ABC researchers. This is not gloating and certainly not criticism of Ross, who did exceptional work on breaking and extrapolating the Page Scandal prior to the 2006 elections. It's a compliment to internet news folks, small shops with big impact now, who picked up the ball and exposed a real hypocrite.

The impact: Vitter was at the top of the list of Guillani's potential Vice President picks. OMG!!!

Here's the Herald article, in summary, with a link to the entire article.

Bloggers hunt for names of possible clients

With the recent release of reams of phone records from a woman accused of running a Washington prostitution ring, bloggers and others online have taken up the cause of hunting for links to elected officials and other prominent people.

"Some top level Republicans are making statements about lifestyles and family values," said Lori Price, editor of the liberal Citizens for Legitimate Government website, explaining her motivation. "We want to see if they are in fact living their lives based on what they are preaching and forcing us to comply with. We see some hypocrisy."

Great article. Lori is one of the top watchdogs

If we can't keep them honest or bring them to justice at least we have people who aren't afraid to shine the spotlight on them.

Tucker Carlson made a fool of himself by attacking Michael Rechtenwald of CLG over the phone lists that exposed more Repub hypocrisy. Glen Greenwald wrote about it at Salon:

To begin the interview, the very first question Carlson asked was this: "How could you justify doing something like this? Why is it your business?" He then complained: "you are holding up this guy's sex life to public ridicule. And you ought to be ashamed of yourself. You have no justification."

Carlson ignored the fact that Vitter is a public offical who ran on a platform of homophobia and tried to legislate morality for everyone else. Here's a guy who represents right-wing Christians' strange relationship with sex but hardly "family values" unless that includes hiring prostitutes for sex in a diaper.  I personally don't care WHAT he does in a diaper. In fact, I don't want to even think about it. But I also don't want people like him describing what is and isn't moral.

We even have a feedback system.

Greenwald really fired back quickly.  That's great.  Carlson should remember what happened in the space of about 15 minutes on one of the last Cross Fire shows... Jon Steward told the truth and the audience turned, voila, no more show.

Vitter was on Guilani's short list for VP and, as you say, his career was all about shaming people for sex and reproductive health issues.  His personal behavior is fair game since he made it that way.

Here's a tawdry article on the subject http://smirkingchimp.com/thread/8643

but the subject is tawdry.

Nice seeing you!
