Did you ever read a news article and blink in utter and total disbelief?  I think that I just did when I read this news article where the United States Defense Secretary, Robert Gates opined this of Israel’s nuclear program in which he defended Israel's nuclear programme on Saturday, saying the Jewish state did not seek to destroy its neighbours or support terrorism, unlike Iran.” The first reaction that came to me was, “Say what?”

I would love for him to say that directly to the Lebanese people who came under fire during Israel’s war on their country back in the summer of 2006.  I have written of that very war with pictures included for VHeadline.com titled, “Come to think of it, who are really the terrorists now?” I want all that read this piece to look upon the innocent victims of Israel’s wrath and you tell me who the terrorists are.  Iran did not do this, but Israel did.  Yet, this nation will side with them time and time again, and frankly it is obscene.  Now just suppose if you will that Israel decided to use a nuclear weapon or nuclear weapons as they attacked Lebanon since they have a nuclear stockpile which contains 400 nuclear warheads.  But, my goodness we are so worried concerning Iran’s capability for building any such weapon.

Israel is a terrorist state whenever they decide to launch an attack upon innocent people such as the Lebanese and Palestinians.

You will be sickened to read this article from Global Research as you read that the, “Israeli cabinet minister, Jacob Edery, has now confirmed that "the Israeli army made use of phosphorous shells during the war against Hezbollah in attacks against military targets in open ground." Now please pay attention here that any use of these weapons, “The use of chemical weapons against civilians or against military targets in civilian areas is outlawed by the Geneva Conventions.” Oh that is right, we no longer pay attention to the Geneva Convention when we ourselves have used water-boarding.

As I have been reading this article of the weaponry used by Israel not only on the Lebanese people, but the people of Gaza, I want to confront every single U.S. politician and presidential candidate who is siding with Israel at the expense of innocent people.  The weaponry used against these people is lethal and for Gates to defend Israel is unconscionable.

These weapons already used by the Israelis are not the big-boy mushroom cloud weapons that they have in their stockpile, but ones that are just as deadly and cause cancers such as leukemia.  If this is not terrorism, I do not know what else is.

Israel along with the United States has turned this region into a toxic wasteland, yet no one in Washington cares.  In fact, dare I say the American people by and large do not care?  Someone has to care for these innocent people. There are some, but not nearly enough to end this madness.

When Gates was asked at the Manama Dialogue conference if Israel posed a threat, his response was, "No, I do not." For humanity’s sake, Mr. Gates, please open your eyes.

I try to find at least one humorous point within any article I read or a blunder and here is exactly the blunder I speak of in responding to the article in which Gates defends Israel: “Israel is widely assumed to have the region's only atomic arsenal, but declines to confirm or deny it. Washington has long avoided pressing Israel to go public with its capabilities.”

In one such article I wrote: Note to Prime Minister Olmert: We already knew that Israel had a nuclear stockpile.  As I wrote in that article, “It is no secret and has not been for years as to how many nuclear warheads Israel presently owns as one reads Israel has now over 400 nuclear warheads.  The cat has already been let out of the bag as one reads, “According to retired US Army Colonel Warner D. Farr, M.D., Israel is the fifth largest nuclear superpower in the world.  By 1967, Israel already had 15 atomic bombs in its arsenal. In 1976, their nuclear arsenal grew to 15 to 20 nukes, and by 1980 jumped to 200. According to Farr, in 1997, Israel now has over 400 nuclear and hydrogen weapons.”

Yet with Israel’s propensity for invading and attacking knowing full well the weaponry they do have which they do not own up to having, our government must be made up of the Key-Stone Cops. That is the only opinion I can come up with regarding our government’s support of Israel.

I have been waiting to comment on the recent news article citing that Iran halted their nuclear weapons program for some days now and perhaps the Gates article was the right catalyst for me to comment on any threat Iran poses towards us and the rest of that region.  While Iran does have weapons, Israel has the big guns.  I will compare it with Iran having a 22 caliber pistol and Israel having a fully automatic SKS.  You tell me who the threat truly comes from.

Gates must think that the world will be suckered by his comments or that he has a bridge to sell us if he opines no threat comes from Israel.  P.T. Barnum who was one of the co-founders of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey circus once said, “There is a sucker born every minute and two to take him.” And Gates just proved Barnum correct. The thing that bothers me as well is that this belief is held by most of our politicians beholden to AIPAC and most of our presidential candidates.  The lone people of sanity are Congressman Ron Paul and former Senator Mike Gravel.

Note to both Republicans and Democrats alike: I challenge you to vote Paul and Gravel in your primaries instead of the top-tier candidates who are blowing smoke when it comes to any threat posed by Iran and no threat coming from Israel.  Americans for the most part are tired of being played for suckers.

Just another programmer.
Just another programmer.

who are the terrorists?

The terrorists are still the Hizbullah. History doesn't change just because a year passed. No country would tolerate unprovoked cross-border operations kidnapping its soldiers. Every country would respond in by a cross-border operation trying to forstall the kidnappers. France did it within the last year. So did Turkey. So did Israel.

Unfortunately for Israel, they had to deal with an army that was preparing for a while for an all-out war with them. The only reason Israeli civilian casualites were so low was because most of the north of the country was evacuated. Hizbullah targetted civlilian targets. I saw the buildings burning. I saw some of those building a fews years back. They are nowhere near military bases. Israel was forced to strike at areas so close to Lebanese civilian installations because Hisbullah put their rocket launchers so close to civilian installations.

We all heard this before.  It doesn't change the fact that it is what it is. Using Lebanese civilians as human shields and then targeting civilian areas in Israel is 2 crimes against humanity.

If you still need to ask the question of who were the terrorists in that war, you are not concerned with politics or humanity or the truth. You just care to find ways to have your perverse fun of feeling good about blaming Israel for something. It doesn't matter what it is. If there is something you can stretch an inch, you'll make up the rest of the mile. You are not a propagandist. A propagandist works for hire. You enjoy your dirty work.

As for Israel's possible nuclear weapons, they had them during the war of 1977.  They almost lost that war.  They were invaded and large parts of their territory was over-ran.  They still didn't use them.  That says either that they are responsible with their use (and would only use them as a measure of a truly last resort) or that they don't have them.  In either case, their weapons are not a threat.

R. Queisser has been an unabashed progressive activist since the '60s. After 28 years in non-profit health care management he left that field, disgusted at the mess commercial health insurance companies have created. He now resides near the Canadian border where he does ontological work repairing gashes in the fabric of truth created by "conservative" politicians & pundits.

Mary's Correct: Israel is a Terrorist State

Why do US politicians and the mainstream media consistently fail to "see" what goes on in and around Israel? Who started the nuclear arms race in the middle-east? Israel. Iran's just playing catch-up.

Who holds approx. 14,000 Palestinian prisoners--men and BOYS AS YOUNG AS 8 y/o--yet invades Lebanon when less than a dozen IDF soldiers are captured? Israel.

Who is in violation of over 30 UN Resolutions? Israel.

And who strafes civilian apartments and vehicle convoys with rockets and helicopter gunships (supplied by the USA), while Palestinians respond with rocks and Katusha rockets? Israel.

Looks like MARY'S article is completely CORRECT!! Let's stop all US military aid to Israel until an autonomous, geographically sovereign Palestinian state has been formed, with territorial security and full access to the sea.  Only then will we have a chance for peace in the middle-east.

Israeli Propaganda

vzor is spouting more Israeli propaganda. We always hear the argument that Israelis have the right to defend themselves. This is true, but this does not give Israel the right to be the judge, juror, and executioner in the region. A few Israelis were taken prisoner and this precipitated grounds for war against Lebanon. What if every country who had their citizens imprisoned by Israel decided to go to war with Israel?

There is such a blatant double standard in how Israel is allowed to invade other countries with violent acts of aggression, yet look what happened when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.

The Israelis routinely roll tanks into Gaza and the West Bank and Lebanon and nobody in the US bats an eye. They routinely carry out assassinations in Israel and abroad and the White House turns a blind eye.

It is way past time for us to hold the Israelis to the same accountability standards as the rest of the world. Many in Israel may find, much to their surprise, that while they might not make as much profit manufacturing and selling arms if their government behaves according to international norms, it is actually in their best interest to act like a respectable member of the international community.

I am a retired opera singer. I was a leading soprano with the New York City Opera for ten years. I am a strong supporter of Dennis Kucinich and worked for his campaign in 2004. I believe that he is the ONLY honest man in congress. He has been working against this insane war since before it began. I am 72 years old and I have been so frustrated with the media, the Congress and the American people that they don't tell the truth.

Israel a threat?

Any country that chooses war over diplomacy is a threat. That's why we must elect Dennis Kucinich president!!!! He knows how to speak the truth and speak to other leaders of countries. The other candidates are too beholden to the war mongers to think of anything but war. The Haliburton mentality will end the world if we don't stop it now.

Look at what Kucinich proposes for his presidency: He will dump Nafta; he will end this evil war in Iraq; he will impeach the criminals in office now; he will put in place a not for profit health care plan (Medicare for All). He will use diplomacy instead of bombs to solve the problems in the world community.

The other candidates are all the same as what we have now. They have no health care plan that doesn't include copays and premiums. They would not end the war immediately and thay are all beholden to lobbyists.

What do you want for your country? Peace? You will not get it with any other candidate but Dennis Kucinich.
