The Eve of Destruction and I Feel Like I'm Fixin to Die by Mary MacElveen Page 1 of 2 page(s) |

Did you ever hear the phrase, they sure don’t make things like they used to? That phrase can attach to so many things or situations within our collective lives. During the Viet Nam War, a powerful song came out and one that I still feel applicable to this day. It was sung by Country Joe and the Blowfish titled, I Feel like I’m Fixin to Die Rag. Below are they lyrics to this wonderful song and all one has to do is substitute Iran since Iraq is but a foot note in my belief. The reason for saying that is that Washington already has Iran in their sights. They want endless wars for year and years to come. In copying the lyrics the beginning of it while spelling fish as we all know in listening to this song was the ‘f’ word. Yes, we are all indeed f’d should our government allow for this to happen. Just the mere fact that it mentions Wall Street is as telling back then as it is now. As we all know, stocks from companies like Halliburton, Bechtel, Kellogg Brown and Root, Raytheon and so many other wonderful defense contractors are traded which line the pockets of these whores of greed. As they get insanely rich, the world waits for their weaponry to take some to the Pearly Gates and others to the Gates of Hell. I would like to think that all that have been protesting this war in Iraq and as some have begun to speak out against any war with Iran will surely make it to the Pearly Gates and the rest; well we all know where they are going. If you think that Washington cares, I invite you to read one of the most powerful articles written by Michael S. Rozeff titled, On Track for U.S. Collapse. In reading it, you will tremble with the utmost fright as I did.
In my thank you letter to Mr. Rozeff, I wrote in part, “Not only do I think that Bush and Cheney need to be impeached but many of the powerful elected officials we have on both sides of the political aisle in Washington. All need to be removed from power, for allowing these events to unfold. They have in fact betrayed the American people.”
Who are those people you may be asking? In my opinion any elected official like Senators, Lieberman, Kyl, Clinton, McCain, Brownback and many more. Any presidential candidate no matter what side of the political aisle that states no option should be taken off the table such as Senator Obama should also be removed from power. This is only our survival as a people that I am speaking of.
Those who are not in power presently yet saber rattle like former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Senator Fred Thompson are beyond contempt if this is the world they wish to give us as president.
After reading Mr. Rozeff’s piece another song came to my head and that is Barry McGuire’s song, Eve of Destruction and as you will see, I also copied the lyrics to that song. Having just listened to it, this stanza sang out to me, “Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin”

You are right but
As we've seen with previous elections there will be a massive propaganda campaign which will make the whole thing look like it is valid, but in reality the only attention in the media goes out to candidates who can talk smooth and look smooth but who are really not much different from Hitler or Stalin or Bush. And when the time comes to do the counting you will see again that they were tipped over just a bit to tip the balance in favour of _their_ favourite candidate. It looks like a democracy, since it's the best way to keep people apathetic. In reality it's just a fascistic state where the interests of oil and weapon industry are best served. So please save your breath calling to vote for the decent candidates and please do spend time making people aware of what is really going on. by Han (0 articles, 2 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 226 comments [5 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Oct 28, 2007 at 2:58:25 AM

candidates
As with any election, the people of America have the kind of government they deserve to have. They continually elect party politicians who pay the news media for exclusive coverage of their campaigns with money they take from public revenues. I have registered as an independent candidate in every election since I was old enough to be elected to that office. I am the only candidate who could end this war by stopping the fighting. I will tell you how it could be done, but there is no one else who would do it. I would take the oath of office, go to Guantanamo, load the "prisoners of war" onto airplanes, and send them back where they came from. That would end the war. I promise that I would attend my impeachment trial. Robert B. Winn by Robert Winn (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 38 comments) on Sunday, Oct 28, 2007 at 9:31:35 AM

You cite two of my favorite songs!
Two minor points, however: 1) I believe it's and it's important to remember 2) we ain't dead yet! by Daniel Geery (26 articles, 95 quicklinks, 126 diaries, 912 comments [27 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Oct 28, 2007 at 10:17:12 AM

Beat me to it. As one who was present at many a Country Joe and the Fish concert I remember the cheer as a bit different: Gimme an F Gimme a U Gimme a C Gimme a K Whats that spell?! Appropriate response from the audience and repeat.....Ahh thjose were the days, we were so naieve as to think we would change the world, but it seems to have changed us. One thing about the sixties though, a man like Ron Paul would not get a pass because of his honesty as many here seem to have given him. We were understanding that a nation is not judged by how the wealthiest live but by how the poorest among us are treated. Pauls Libertarianism leads perforce to the ending of the social contract between our government and its people. I find this selfish, abhorrent and Pauls decency, intelligence and opposition to the war is far from enough to compensate for the great harm his administration would do to this nation. This war will end of its own futility and corruption. Bush will return to his phoney little ranch and be forever marked as the single most incompetent President ever, and we need no such as Paul to further harm us. by ardee D. Not only are we not dead
We are getting POed and starting to become involved in the process we have avoided for so long. The Mena-maid or the drag-queen will be the nail in our coffin. Come on people start campaigning for RON PAUL. I have pledged 100 bucks to the Nov. 5th fundraiser. Isnt saving our nation important enough to make a commitment? by john riggs (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 463 comments [24 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Oct 28, 2007 at 10:29:14 AM

Reply: John: Ron Paul's the Man. I pledged, too!
Mary. Thank you for writing this. I would be curious who you personally support, and would suspect that it's probably someone on the Democrat side of the aisle, but that's okay. I wholeheartedly agree with you that we must break ourselves from the establishment stupor that we've been in for the most part of several decades. It's interesting, for example, to see where both Giuliani's and Clinton's funding comes from, and it isn't pretty. I personally agree with John that Ron Paul is the best option for president. He's the only republican who has a prayer of beating Hillary Clinton. by Frank Staheli (1 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 37 comments [16 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Oct 28, 2007 at 11:54:14 AM

Vote Ron Paul
I think Ron Paul is the only one that can get us out of this mess. Once he is elected if he makes it, which now I think he may have a spitting chance, we still need to be active because the Democrats and Republicans will try and stop him from getting anything done. We need to get rid of all the corrupt liars in our government which are most of them. This includes the Judiciary branch. Then as a people we need to go back and look at our history. Our Constitution really did not mean much back in it's conception. Look at what we did to the Native Americans and the Blacks. Worse of all the Native Americans. We almost wiped them of the face of the earth, we stole their land and we put them in concentration camps. We took their children from them so they could learn the right religion and the white man's way. We stripped away from them any dignity they had left. We never seem to talk about the genocide that took place in America and we ignore the silent genocide that is still occurring to the Native American today. by Rick Theile (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 50 comments [1 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Oct 28, 2007 at 12:57:01 PM

You're dreaming ...
Ron Paul? Please ... indeed his strict adherence to the Constitution is appealing and a rallying call, but does anyone supporting him know what this means? All of the social programs would be dismantled completely. Besides, if either Paul or Kucinich, who are perhaps the two best to actually represent the people, by some miracle get in they'd be assassinated within a month. You really think the monster-money war-mongering cretins are just going to go guietly into the night? Hell, they've murdered anyone that was a threat to them my whole life, the Kennedy's, King, Wellstone, Tillman, you think they're just going to stop? This country is finished. Our elections are a farce, something to give the people an illusion they have a say in what policies go down. There are third-world countries that have elections more fair than ours. by Mr M (8 articles, 0 quicklinks, 66 diaries, 2845 comments [654 recommended, 27 rejected]) on Sunday, Oct 28, 2007 at 1:43:49 PM

You have a very good point. Ron Paul even said he is concerned about a possible assassination. And this is a very big possibility in this country. As far as dismanteling the social programs Paul knows it cannot be done immediately. It could even be long term. But what he represents is at least moving in a positive direction and most important regaining peace and not just another lie we hear from the others. by Rick Theile (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 50 comments [1 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Oct 28, 2007 at 2:19:18 PM

Both Sides of The Aisle( R & D ) Agree with one Another !
I suppose one more 'word of warning' never hurt anyone.. but it Can Kill when no warning at all is taken serious. Mary, YOU are Absolutely Right when you "Plead with this Seemingly mindless and mute population ''out here in the mass-lands'' TO Refuse to Vote for any one of the 'Bunch that is positioning there on the Platform, clearly intent on trying to one-upmanship the other !' This applies to both Republican AND Democrat 'wanta-bes.' They are cut from the same bolt of cloth... And YES ! It is made out of Wool..that they are busy pulling over our eyes. Isn't it weird that the Only real candidate that is on either platform ( RON PAUL ) is all but ignored and cut out of the 'interchange ?' No one has to be a rocket scientist to figure out the reason for this'Slight' ( oversight ?? ) It is because he is the only person standing on the platform who is strictly there For the Good of this Country, and not out to line his or anyone elses' pockets, nor to push the profitable war-machine businesses to keep up the good work of supply and demand..{ Just Continue Supplying..and We will continue Demanding Endless WAR..So you can have a big business to operate !} No one but a mindless fool would fall for Their so worn-thin-fence-riding rhetoric...Words they spew out so easily that can be taken either way you wish it to mean, [ yet while Denoting Nothing of binding substance.] Is it any wonder that THE News Media in control of these mini-let's get acquainted 'cozies' will Not give Ron Paul the Microphone and a decent chance to Speak out ? BUT>>>there are many citizens who are waking up to what is really going on here. They can only be fooled just so long and just so far. WE Have begun to Open up Our eyes. To Question and Demand answers now..that so many of us did not even know to question before. This 'Mexican Stand-off ' ( am I allowed to use this expression any more ? ) has got to be put out of Business..once and for all. I am Sure there are many millions who Want R.P. to have His Full SAY to All of the American Citizens..Loud And Clear.. what He Will Do for this Country, once he Is The President of these United States Of America...... Not only to be heard on the Internet, ( As he most assuredly already IS ) but on these 'supposedly full coverage' main stream news 'Media-Companies !' ... The Very Same ones who are in Total Lockstep with this Present Fascist Regime..all the way to the Bank ! Even if you dwell under a mushroom, you do get a glimpse of real sunlight once in a while. Our Light has now Been LIT. Ron Paul, WE Know you are patiently waiting there ( and we do hear your silence loud and clear.) You Will be ocupying the White House in 2008. You will restore the Integrity and the Respect that this White House has been lacking for at least the last six years ( and counting ! ) MONEY is Nice, but it will not be enough to buy this presidential seat, Ever again. Candidates
Forget Ron Paul. He's a charlatan who doesn't support impeachment and an independent investigation of 911. Vote for Dennis Kucinich the only major party presidential candidate who wants Bush and Cheney impeached, removed from office, arrested and prosecuted for their crimes. http://www.dennis4president.com http://www2.kucinich.us/issues by Ty (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 888 comments [2 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Oct 28, 2007 at 7:29:31 PM

Vincent, IMHO, you're right on the money. People who believe things are going to change simply by appointing another self serving lackey into the Whitehouse are deluding themselves. If the people of America have not yet realised, their system of government has been comprimised 100%, they're pissin into the wind, and as such actions demonstrate, they'll eventually cop it all back, unpleasant as it may be. This administration has,( with the HELP of the supposed opposition) introduced laws that throw away any freedoms or beliefs of democracy Americans ever thought they had. They've given you all a 'heads up' allowing you all, to freely access and peruse these laws for yourselves, I can't speak for the mentality of the majority, but seriously folks, can't you interpret what you read ? It's all there for you in black and white, no voting/election or whatever is going to change anything, for Christ's sake, I wish you poor fools would see the light of day, and wake up. Rebellion ? Yep, you've got that right on, and this Administration KNOWS, that ultimately, this will be the eventual result, why on earth do you fools think such legislation has been passed in the first place ? Why do you think mercenary military forces have been introduced ? Wasn't their introduction with Katrina enough of a heads up for you all ? The heavy handedness, lies/deceptions practiced at that time by your Govt, was just a small sample of what's coming down the track for you all. Your evil administration is miles ahead of you all, and is placing the building blocks in place right in front of your faces, whilst the citizenry run around squealing and wringing their hands, hoping anyone, anyone but THEM, will do something to stop this. Blocks that will ultimately build your very own walls. The U.S. is in a VERY SERIOUS predicament. It never ceases to amaze me, that Americans are unable to work this out for themselves. by Eddy Schmid (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 234 comments [17 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Monday, Oct 29, 2007 at 3:53:24 AM
