TREASON - are you giving it a pass?

Are you doing for the Democrats, the same thing that the Democrats are doing for Bush and his Republican cronies.... giving them a pass? Is that what all this commentary is.... gestures that pretend to do something when in fact they accomplish little or nothing at all?

Probably the reason that it is so difficult to take real action is that things are so bad we don't even see what is right in front of us. What we have is the overthrow of the legitimate government of the United States. If George Bush and his minions are above the law with impunity, then this is not the country of our fathers. Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Lincoln, and all the rest are rolling over in their graves contemplating the loss of habeas corpus, privacy rights, separation of powers, an acknowledgment of the basic dignity of human beings and all the rest. This is treason. The only reason we don't see it is because they are all in on it.

Any member of the House could offer articles of impeachment, but no one will. Any member of the Senate could say on camera that Bush and Cheney are criminals and criminals ought not to hold public office but no one will. They are all more loyal to their party, their careers, or their party leadership than they are to the Constitution.

Since they are all in on it, no one in high office is left to defend the Republic but us. And we spend our time talking about policy or begging them to please listen to us. Do we send in more troops or not? Do we end the war or not? Who should be the next President, Hillary or Obama? I say, they're fired!

Absent the willingness and the courage to see the truth and react to it, all that is left are meaningless talk, and words on a page. I offer you a plan of action if you have the courage to implement it. The time to start is... Now!

What is the strategy? It won't be easy to do but it's simple to understand: Look at your willingness to honor your own pledge of allegiance which is the same as a lawmaker's oath of office. Stand up and defend the Constitution. How? Do not support, vote or work for any candidate who hasn't been willing to independently tell the truth and act in the defense of the Constitution. That they didn't think they could win if they acted is not an excuse. You don't always know you're going to win when you stand up to fight the good fight.

Instead of supporting those who are timid, we must use our energy to support honorable independent people who have the courage to run for office and won't need to be pressured and cajoled into honoring their oath of office once they are elected.

How do you find such people? That's not as hard as it sounds. See what they've been saying and doing these last 6 years. Who was able to stand on their own two feet and tell the truth. If you are such a person, run for office or find someone else who you think is qualified and ask them to run.

Unfortunately, in my view, every member of congress fails the test I'm suggesting you use. You say, I'm being too hard on them. No way. What has happened to basic honor and decency? Torture? Rendition? Indefinite detentions? The right to be legitimately represented by an attorney? Fraudulent elections? Depleted Uranium? Cluster bombs in populated areas? Dead citizens floating in the street? No-bid contracts? Secrecy? Signing statements? Criminal incompetence and negligence? Is it responsible to sign a bill before reading it? Too many excuses. I say enough!

If you won't be true to your own honor, do not expect anyone else to be true to theirs either. If you can't stand on your own two feet and be counted, then who else will? I'm sorry, but Democrats are not any better than Republicans. They feed from the same corporate trough and their loyalty is to their careers and not to us. Most of the country is asleep. If you won't help me wake them up, our country will be lost. Maybe we don't deserve to be free.

Wake up and come into alignment with your own knowledge, honor, and consciousness. Or be prepared to kiss your freedom goodbye.

TREASON

If you thought you saw this piece on this site a couple of days ago, you did.  When this site came back up after being down for a day or so, this commentary had been deleted from the inventory of articles I had written, so I added it back in.

and thanks for doing so.....

We lose sightof the fact that far too many in this country still are not getting it. in fact we are suffering because most Americans refuse to engage politically.

I work for a major California public utility, thus am among blue collar workers all my working day. These folks are the best in the world at what they do, and they do it in rain, snow, blizzards even, under pressure and with dangerous conditions a common occurence. We are called out at ungodly hours to repair outages and to fix leaking gas lines. Every year almost we lose one or two of our guys, my point being that I am proud as hell of our work force and the small part I play in maintaining lights, heat and industry in northern California.

Yet these guys, supposedly the stronghold of the Democratic Party, guys whose union (IBEW) is staunchly behind the democrats, are mostly staunch Bushistas and support the war in Iraq. Most still believe Sadaam Hussein was behind 9/11, and was a buddy of bin Laden too. I regularly get hostile receptions to my politics, and you try being surrounded by big and burly working class General Construction types, 'dozer drivers or pole climbing lineman,   who call you a commie for speaking the truth. Not that Im a shrinking violet, being just as big, just as burly and a part of the crew to boot..so I gotta buy the beer after work, its OK.

My point being that it isnt giving it a pass sometimes, its lack of education. These guys work hard, really hard sometimes and long damn hours too, just average Americans who go home to their families and dont give a rats ass about politics, believing that they are all liars and crooks anyway.

The blame falls squarely , in my opinion, on the Democrats for not standing up immediately and speaking the truth, consequences be damned. They had th enational forum, they had the filibuster, they had the unions to reach out to but shut up when they should have stood up. Now we are all in the shite up to our noses, cowardice is never pretty.

Thank you

And you are really on the front lines.  I am very much aware of what it takes to do something well.  Sometimes I ask myself, what do I want from people?  Do I really want some brain surgeon to take time to do the research that I've done in order to realize how pervasive the lies and the unconsciousness is.  If you listen to the politicians with their speech writers it is hard to believe that there could ever be anything wrong in America.  It is only when you compare what people say to what they do or don't do that you realize how at risk we all are.  Who has time to do that?  It's not easy.  I think if you are privileged enough to have a mind and heart that allows you to see through the fog a little bit, that the greatest gift you can give your fellow travelers on this earth, is just to be yourself, to try your best at what you do, to try to understand, and from time to time when the opportunity permits to have just a little courage to offer a thought or say a word that points another persons thoughts in a new direction... just to let a little light in.  Life wouldn't work without the heros that get up and go to work every day and do a job right.  We need to look out for each other in any event.  And simply do our best.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Mark

The classes

"The aim of the High is to remain where they are. The aim of the Middle is to change places with the High. The aim of the Low, when they have an aim -- for it is an abiding characteristic of the Low that they are too much crushed by drudgery to be more than intermittently conscious of anything outside their daily lives -- is to abolish all distinctions and create a society in which all men shall be equal."

"The masses never revolt of their own accord, and they never revolt merely because they are oppressed. Indeed, so long as they are not permitted to have standards of comparison, they never even become aware that they are oppressed."

The classes

It is interesting that you offer these quotes.  Sometimes I think that the one thing that is holding us all together is our ignorance.  We are sustained by a belief that things are the way they always were.

Some people are not prepared for the truth.  Sometimes it looks like they would fall apart if confronted with it.  Of course, eventually we all will be confronted with it.

To some extent I think love is the respect and dignity that we show others.  And we show that respect by being ourselves as much as possible without pretense.  There's a certain dignity to that and the great miracle is we are all capable of it, I think.  So I always see hope even when I see things I don't like.  If what I just said is true... that we are all capable of being without pretense... then the possiblities are quite extraordinary.

Some people want us to believe that up is down and right is left.  But that doesn't mean we have to see things their way.  The extraordinary thing about being human is that we have a choice of seeing things independently of how others want us to see them.

Candidate for President

The America First Party is looking for candidates who have character, decency, and a committment to look after America & Americans First.

The Current political duopoly is killing America and Americans.  Both sides of the current political machine trade cash for influence and access.

The present system ignores the will of the citizens, spends the treasure of our country frivolously, and inflicts death & suffering on our people and others around the world.........it's time for them to go.......now!

The America First Party can take all of the splinter political factions and build a strong weapon out of them.

Our platform is simple........Real American Values (as reflected in the constitution & Bill of Rights)

     1.Freedom 2.Privacy 3.Justice 4.Mercy   and   5.Hope

If these values are important to you.....if you feel that you are not being represented..............if you feel that something must be done to stop our run-a-way political system......

Join us.....Represent Americans and America....it may be our last  chance.

Thanks for your attention.....Mr.Brian Mathes, Chairman, America 1st Party

About that title 'America First'

Well...that particular phrase has had a VERY unfortunate history.
