With the wearing of this pin I pledge allegiance to...?
I heard the other day that someone somewhere was taking Mr. Obama to task for not wearing a US Flag lapel pin. The fact that this made the news (I can't say for certain but I would bet you a latte it was probably Fox News) made me wonder about the need for the wearing of a symbol on ones person to indicate a particular affiliation.
So, on the surface the obvious argument being made by those who see the absence of the flag lapel pin is one that Mr. Obama is somehow lacking in patriotism and or is not American enough in some fashion or another. Pardon my bluntness but that is just plain stupid.
The first thing I thought of when I heard that someone somewhere was taking issue with this was what it must have been like for those Germans who did not believe Hitlers lies and propaganda and refused to wear the swastika. How about those who did but just could not believe it would ever go as far as it did until it was too late. ? "Excuse me, Mr. Natzi, but I don't think you should be torturing those Jewish People." Too late is when speaking up against tyranny makes you a traitor.
Is that where we are headed with this? Is this not the logical extrapolated end to this argument? Will we not at some point have to declare a side in the most important fight we shall ever face as a nation...to decide who and what we truly are? Are we a people who torture or are we a people who don't? We are a people that sometimes torture when we deem it necessary is a ticking time-bomb and too many Americans are tuned into American Idol and cannot hear it. For those of you who do watch Idol and can hear that ticking as well...then I think you know what I mean.
Oh....am I saying there are similarities between our government and Hitler?...to varying degrees...yes I am.
Especially now that we have officially bestowed the exclusive right upon ourselves to torture those we are afraid of and decide what pre-emptive wars we will begin.
How very Hilteresque.
If anyone else does it they would be terrorists unless, of course, they enjoy an unofficially-official sanctioned status which can be revoked at any time unofficial obedience is not unofficially maintained.
All these parties are tacitly wrong in believing this practice will ever ultimately resolve anything.
It may in fact occasionally stop incidents but it breeds thousands more in its wake.
So what does it mean that Obama is not wearing a US flag lapel pin? Maybe if there is a statement being made here it has to with lies and propaganda too. I hope so. Too many people have died already as a direct result of those spun by our very own "we know where the weapons are", "smoking gun nuclear cloud", United States flag lapel pin wearing liars. I am saying that I if can imagine Dick Cheney has any concern for the people of this nation or any other it comes from a place in him that believes it is OK to lie to us because we are too stupid to take care of our weak liberal, liberty and justice for all asses. Some guys ought to be able to make a profit off of us at least, since they have to take care of us and all , right?
And then there is Republican Light.

Mr McCain sought out the endorsement of Preacher Hagee...who has a much more simplistic view of what Hitler did, he thinks the Jews just got what they had coming to them. Disobedience....bad Jews. I don't recall Obama seeking out his pastors endorsement in order to garner the votes of the extreme black preacher flock.
But don't worry kids...Mr. McCain has decided to forsake the right-wing preacher now (another messy right-wing divorce) and he always wears his lapel pin so he must be ok, right? Since what wearing your pin or not wearing your pin and what that means is making news these days...just what does Mr. McCain's mean to him?
Hitler would surely be proud at the turn of events in our country although perhaps a bit bemused by the irony of it all.
Guess it takes what it takes and it ain't over yet.
