Corporate media feeds us a constant barrage of pro free trade propaganda and nonsense. The media stooges must use the word protectionist as an epithet. In their talking-point driven minds, being a protectionist is a kind of high crime.
So when do I get the knock on the door from the Free Trade stormtroopers?
Despite the job losses, the immense trade deficit, lack of a floor on standards, lack of compensating and incentivizing tariffs, lack of a rational, fit for a disparate and undemocratic world, trade policy, lack of electing our own representative to the WTO, it still must be Free Trade Uber Alles.
In short, you must take Free Trade as your personal savior, or you cannot get a job as an "economist" nor garner any corporate media exposure.
So then you're an Exposure-ist... and protecting anything is out of the question?
Imagine wanting to protect anything – i.e., your job, your wage level, your ability to produce, your food supply, your environment, your democracy? Imagine.
No, our masters have decided that you must cede your interest, your livelihood, your wage levels, the value of your dollar, your environment and your freedom to faceless, unelected, international bureaucrats - who could care less about your country or your problems. You, Mr. Protectionist and Mr. Fair Trader are an impediment to corporate world domination, and their media says so... constantly.
What an incredible, Stalinist, mindset these "free" traders and corporate economists maintain. First, they never inquire what the majority of people want. And they dont care, for they are true believers and the arrogant Stalinists of the right.
They are the noble Protectors of capital. Clearly, only capital must have protection... from you. And so they intend to "flatten" you, and all in their nice little disguise as "economists."
So what economy is that? And whose economy is it?
Is it the one that is completely amoral and without conscience or constitution and not readily amended by the people?
Is it the one with treaties written by ruling elites and passed by corrupt politicans in legislative, late-night coups? Is that the economy you speak of? Which economy do you refer to?
Is it the the one where three, unelected, guys in Belgium decide whether your country is right , and you have no appeal?
Or, is it the one where the majority really do decide whether they want full speed interdependency, or, they want to go a little slower, and perhaps use their fast dwindling, First World, leverage to support the good, the better, the local, the moral, the environmental, and the democratic?
Which economy is it you prefer? A laboratory of free nations or a fascist, top-down-driven, globalization?
Is the economy you prefer the one where the media is so concenrated that five men control what you see hear and read in their major media? Is it the one where mega corporate media sell "our" airtime to desperate politicans, and give them a boost in their papers and journals if they say and do "the right things" about free trade?
