Today's AP coverage exposes collusion with Blackwater

Tell A Friend

AP released a report this morning containing Blackwater head Eric Prince's rebuke to the Congressional committee providing oversight on the Blackwater killings.

"Blackwater Chief Defends Actions in Iraq"

WASHINGTON - The founder of Blackwater USA on Tuesday vigorously defended his private security company against charges of covering up Iraqi civilian deaths, saying 30 of its contractors have been killed while protecting U.S. diplomats and no Americans have died while under its watch.

"There is no better evidence of the skill and dedication of these men," Erik Prince said in remarks prepared for a congressional hearing and obtained by The Associated Press. Prince said there has been a "rush to judgment based on inaccurate information."

The article by AP's Richard Lardner was pre-written using Prince's comments and carefully planned for release this morning. It was on my homepage by 10 est, just as the hearing was set to begin. How did Lardner know Prince "vigorously defended" his company's actions if his testimony had not yet taken place?

The AP story will become the "official" version adopted by newspapers and radio and TV stations around the world. The AP story gives only Prince's version. Why is AP spinning for Blackwater? Why is AP taking part in neocon perception management?

money, money, money

Is Prince wanting to buy influence with the Greens or to set them up? Or does he have a split personality?

All the resources of the M$M and they use it not to inform and keep our government in check but to assist those with power and money.

We are left out in the cold.

Blackwater lives high off backs of US taxpayers

Our $1 billion in tax dollars spent on no-bid contracts with Blackwater bought:

1 single security guard at $1222/day or $445,000 annually (6 times the pay of an average soldier). Blackwater employees need not be US citizens; 243 of the more than 800 Blackwater mercenaries are from other countries besides the US and Iraq.

1.4 shooting incidents a week or 195 shooting incidents since 2005 (80% involved BW firing first, by its own accounts). The vast majority are drive-by shootings.

Heaps of goodwill. Drunk Blackwater mercenary assasinated Iraqi VP's security guard. US soldiers were erroneously blamed.

A single incident last month left 11 Iraq civilians dead and 14 wounded in what observers and the Iraqi government called an unprovoked criminal attack by Blackwater mercenaries.

Zero accountability. Blackwater operates outside military rules and outside Iraq's legal system. There is no mechanism for punishing them. They have the backing of the Pentagon and State Department which hired them. Documentation proves the government was complicit in covering up Blackwater crimes against Iraqis.

Double billing and other fraudulent charges.

Continuation of Bush family incestuous relationships: Eric Prince was a WH intern for Bush I. He, as well as his father, sister and brother-in-law are all top tier contributors to the Bush campaigns and Republican party leaders (fundraisers). Several former CIA and DoD leaders are now Blackwater employees.

**

Congress will vote for more of the same with each military funding bill.

Politically, I lean Libertarian. When discussing issues, I will slam Dems and/or Republicans.

Now, when it comes to really irritating me, just make an unfounded charge; I will clobber whomever makes the charge if there are no facts to back it up! Another version of this is when I see something that is just plainly silly/ridiculous.

An example could be something stated which could be very easily disproved. Another example, and I see this frequently: Rather than...

$5,000 to the greens in PA?  WOW..  that is a lot of money...  especially since you are reporting that he donated 45,000 to the republicans...

so before we start bashing anyone else, let's consider what Mr. Prince expects from the Republicans...

 Ciao, CZ

They've already gotten $1B in no-bid contracts

thanks to their tight association with the RNC/Bushies.

The Green party donation was aimed at helping the Greens compete for unhappy Dem voters. (divide and conquer)

Well done! This is precisely why I call the AP

"Authorized Propaganda".  Great catch.

It's disconcerting to read about an event BEFORE it happens

I recall seeing several "test" articles proclaiming a Bush victory just before the 2004 presidential election.

It was bad enough when they were simply slanted. Now they barely hide efforts to manipulate and shape public opinion.

I don't claim that all AP reporters are "go along" tools, some still follow the basic tenets of journalism, but many of them certainly are just that. It's the faith people have in the AP organization and AP's domination over the entire news landscape that make them dangerous to democracy.

Lauria Hale

I like that!

"Authorized Propaganda" is a perfect descriptive of the AP.  I often refer to that particular "news" organization as "Analysis Prohibited" because, unlike nearly every other online newspaper, magazine, or news service, the AP does not accomodate public reader commentary on their stories.

Blackwater

Bush is just letting Blackwater get in lots of practice killing people, before he turns them loose on the American public.  He's planning on declaring martial law just before time to return to his ranch, and then we'll all find out what those detention pens are being built for here in America.  We'll have our very own home-grown dictator - with his very own Blackwater army.  Better start buying armored vests and digging hidey holes.  Or, perhaps, move to another country.  One that can't arrest you without a warrant, put you in jail for an unlimited length of time, torture you, and deny you a lawyer's service
