The President Who Cried Wolf

By       (Page 1 of 1 pages)   1 comment
In the past, the lies that have come out of the White House have at least been potentially almost kind of a little bit true. Now we've reached a new low.

Today our President told the country that his illegal wiretapping allowed the US government to foil a terrorist plot four years ago to hijack an airplane using shoe-bombs and fly it into the US Bank Tower in Los Angeles.

Bullshit.

The mayor of Los Angeles didn't know. How is this even possible? This didn't even make the local news in L.A. four years ago when it supposedly happened.

You see, everyone knows that the wiretapping was illegal. No one is buying the administration's excuses. The administration has tried to continue all of their failed and corrupted policies by constantly reminding the nation of September 11th and by constantly telling the American people that they should live in fear. That well is drying up. Every American remembers the horror of September 11th, and every American respects that memory, but it cannot be the basis for all of our future decisions.

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." (Benjamin Franklin, great American patriot, 1759)

The truth is, if this story were true, it would have been a major story when it happened. It would have been a major card for Bush to play during the 2004 Presidential election.

It wasn't in the news in 2002. It wasn't mentioned during the election. It didn't happen.

The worst thing is, the administration is hurting America with this lie. He has lied to the American people and the world so many times during his six years in office that no one is going to believe him when something important really does happen.

He's the President who cried wolf, or in this case, the President who cried terror.

Conservatives need the American people to live in fear. Fear is the only motivating factor that allows them to take away our civil liberties and blind us to their lies and corruption. If we allow the Bush administration to force us to give up our fundamental freedoms for the sake of protection from terrorist attack (whether it be real or invented), we deserve neither those freedoms nor the safety they offer.
