The progressive group MoveOn.org has just taken a poll of its members, and asked if they had a preference for the Democratic nominee. If the vote was strongly in favor of one candidate over the other, then MoveOn promised to formally endorse the winner.

The votes are in.

Barack Obama: 197,444 70.4%
Hillary Clinton: 83,084 29.6%

So better than 7 out of 10 progressives prefer Obama over Clinton, and with numbers like these, the margin of error is going to be much smaller than in the average poll which only includes 1,000 to 1,200 participants.

Obama is clearly more liberal than Clinton, and has a better voting record than Clinton on huge issues such as the Iraq war. Despite the fact that I would love to see a woman in the Oval Office, I would much more prefer the most progressive candidate possible in that position.

I will support Obama in the upcoming primaries and general election.
