In a news story put out by Associated Press Writer, Kim Curtis, the headline reads " U.S. Army sniper sentenced in Iraq case".

Now at first glance at the headline I thought it was simply a case of a rogue soldier getting carried away. I was wrong.

BAGHDAD - The court-martial that cleared a U.S. Army sniper of two counts of murder sentenced him Saturday to five months in prison, reduced his rank to private and ordered his pay withheld for planting evidence in the deaths of two Iraqi civilians. -Ap

I thought, 'planting evidence?', and then I read on.

Spc. Jorge G. Sandoval, 22, was acquitted Friday of murder charges in the April and May deaths of two unidentified men. The five-man, two-woman panel decided he was guilty of a lesser charges of placing detonation wire on one of the bodies to make it look as if the man was an insurgent.

"I feel fortunate that I have been served this sentence," Sandoval said. "I'm grateful that I'm able to continue to be in the Army."

Military prosecutors had argued Sandoval should be sentenced to five years in prison.-Ap

WHAT!!! Now we're planting evidence on innocent people to make them look like "terrorists? Has the world completely gone MAD!!!!

It's bad enough we are in this mess, now we have our military resorting to the actions of criminals! Only 5 months for that? Prosecutors arguing for a mere 5 years for double homicide!!! What is going on here? Fortunate? Still allowed in the Army? This can't be right, I missed something.

Vela said the sniper team was following orders when it shot the men during two separate incidents near Iskandariyah, a volatile Sunni-dominated area 30 miles south of Baghdad, on April 27 and May 11.

Gary Myers, one of Vela's lawyers, claimed this week that Army snipers hunting insurgents in Iraq were under orders to "bait" their targets with suspicious materials, such as detonation cords, then kill those who picked up the items. He said his client was acting on orders.

Asked about the "baiting program," Capt. Craig Drummond, Sandoval's military defense attorney, said it was unclear "what programs were going on out there and when," especially "if there were things that were done that made the rules of engagement not clear."- Ap

You have got to be kidding me!! "BAIT"!! Now we're fishing?!! What if two ten year old kids picked up that primer cord? What kind of sentence then? 6 months? 7 years?

THIS IS A FALLACY PERPETRATED BY THE REAL PHONY G.I.JOE'S! This whole "rules of engagement not clear" is now being used to allow attrocities such as this to occur, just like the Nazi's did with the concentration camps! "We just give them showers". AND GAS THEM!!!! Allowing this to go on because we don't know who to shoot is ridiculous.

So now we've resorted to "baiting" people into their own demise. I am completely shocked now, if I wasn't before. This kid would be in jail for life here. His face would be EVERYWHERE on the news. O.J. is news-worthy enough. Brittany is too. But not this? I say to the Dems in office, you fools want this to go on for how long? 2013? Maybe longer? We haven't slaughtered enough and now we resort to criminal acts in the name of "rules of engagement not clear"!!

Rush makes retarded comments about a con man and it's plastered everywhere in sight and this gets a one page article that completely diverts it's attention to dividing Iraq in the rest of it.

Hey Somenobody

There's no way to shut up the likes of Limbaugh, he's as teflon as the soldier you talked about. No time in the slam for him. I don't remember. Did he skate without even going to rehab?

Although I agree with the travesty you write about, I've had this thought since many stories have come out about our soldiers' questionable actions under extraordinary circumstances and questionable orders, i.e. Abu Graib, and only one person of officer rank taking a fall.

Until all of the above are fully investigated and indictments brought, all soldiers who are in jail or under suspicion be let go pending the investigations.

If the mercenaries, under the cover of Blackwater and Bush/Cheney blessings, have a free pass, then why shouldn't legitimate military men receive the same treatment?

Law school anyone? If all these allegations of heinous crimes were investigated and charges brought half the country could be retrain as attorneys to represent the hundreds -- maybe thousands -- who would be charged.

Or, will W. decree a class action-type predidential pardon for everyone involved?

Blue script on a white background for the sad, sad state of affairs our country is in with no help in sight.

About jr.emperor giving universal pardons: He doesn't care enough, as long as the job is "getting done" he doesn't care how it's done.

He declared "mission accomplished" because he had hired Blackwater and that is basically their motto, they just failed to expediate things due to the obvious miscalculations, that and genocide doesn't look good on the tube.(remember we had twice the imbedded reporters at the beginning)

Couldn't have said it better myself :) We drive around in our brand new Tahoes and try to take the easy way out by practicing intentional ignorance. We are surrounded by elite power brokers whose only deity is money, and wonder why we cannot afford that vacation to Hawaii this year. Keep screaming, Joe!

Wake up people. We are nothing more than profit margins and motives to ALL sides of government now, side by side with the Iraqi's and their oil. Politically, I lean Libertarian. When discussing issues, I will slam Dems and/or Republicans.

Now, when it comes to really irritating me, just make an unfounded charge; I will clobber whomever makes the charge if there are no facts to back it up! Another version of this is when I see something that is just plainly silly/ridiculous.

The Dimbaugh accomplished its mission, if that is what it was there for, because so many people became enraged about something he did not say, because it was Dimbaugh, and they love to hate him!

Avoiding what is wrong is why the aforementioned in my article are merely pawns on a board, expendable at best.

A soldier does everything he is told, right , wrong, or indifferent. Obeying the master at the cost of his/her character.

A warrior has no master but VIRTUE! A warrior has presence of thought. A warrior would stand up against his master if the master is EVIL!

Just like the WARRIORS in Viet Nam, they sat down and refused to fight any longer. That Nixonian disadministration would have everyone think they stopped the war. WRONG!! Are warriors stood up and said NO MORE, and finally 1 became 10 and 10 became 100 and so on!

This is exactly what needs to happen now, but with reports like these I don't know how many warriors are left.

When you send the poor to fight your war because of a "shadow draft" like the one going on now with our children and their parents not being able to afford college because of outsourcing, you end up with babies fighting a war for trinkets like $50,000 sign on bonuses and the like. So though never excusable, acts like these abound in our military.

Warriors are seasoned MEN, bushites fight their wars with children.

So I guess we shouldn't expect anything less than mindless obeying of authority as you would expect from a child!

Wake up and smell the cordite!

If you haven't noticed, they are in the body count mode, just like Vietnam near the end, which inferrs they have no set goal to attain. Just kill as many as possible and make the numbers look good. The BS they are still being fed is it's better to fight them over there than over here and many have been conditioned to hate those people, as it's much easier to kill someone you hate. Of course Islam was demonized after the so called attacks (whether or not they actually happened is moot right now, after seeing the videos a hundred times over, you'll believe them if they happened or not), which makes it even easier for someone to pull off a stunt like this. I don't condone it, but I understand their reasoning. Anyway, the body counts are all that matter right now.

Suckers are made, not born. We get suckered into paying our taxes to support these crooked wars, and our young people get suckered by all the media bullshit, so they sign up thinking they will be heros. The surest way to sucker someone is to make them feel special. put them in a unique uniform, and give them some skills.

This country has been in continuous war and inundated with propaganda ever since Pearl Harbor. No wonder we are addled. Israel is the same way, only they have the burden of also being burdened with being special to a supernatural being. They are even worse.

On that "OTHER" thread...

Frank J. Ranelli made some statements that inspired me to respond.. Unfortunately, my remarks were buried in the mix.. However, John made some comments, and in agreeing with him, I wish to re-post this so as to sort of give a bit more depth to something John just touched on...

Frank, you are misjudging my defence of Dimbaugh..

I am NOT a fan of Dimbaugh, nor am I approaching this from the first amendment angle...

Rather, I am approaching this from the FALSE TESTIMONY PRESENTED angle! For some reason VERY FEW here seem to want to get that, despite the fact that I posted the REST of the transcript.. One comment was to string Dimbaugh up, because he is Dimbaugh, in short...

If he said the things people are saying he said, I would be the FIRST ONE to crucify him! Being prior military, from the first Gulf War, I have lots of opinions on that region... None of them, have any place here in this discussion, other than to say that I am prior military and I do have feelings about those who would disrespect the children over there being shot at.. Knowing now, what I know, I cringe every time I hear the words "Brave men and women who put on the uniform"

They are KIDS putting on the uniform trying to act like men and women.. When they are shot at, they are more resilient than we are from a physical stand point, but significantly less so from a psychological standpoint. When they come home, after going through all of that trauma, sometimes 5 tours in a hot zone (place where they WILL BE SHOT) they are called baby killers and murderers from many of the same people who are NOW beating on Rush Dimbaugh.

SO, when Dimbaugh was discussing a lying deceitful kid who wrote about things that he came up with off of the top of his head, and Dimbaugh referred to this kid as a "Phoney Soldier" AS HE HAD A COURT TRANSCRIPT finding said kid guilty of BEING A PHONEY SOLDIER, I take offense to people who would simply gloss over what he was talking about, and focus on 2 words accompanying "soldier against the war"

Personally, I think you would be more likely to be struck by lightening, than to find any soldiers that were for the war, at least if you talked to the soldiers in the war zone... So you know where I am coming from.

Slaughtering kids.....

Slaughtering kids is always ignored by a people to caught up in their own "daily grind" to see the truth! And for the simple fact that some people on these threads are making money off this attrocity as well, whether it's being paid to write about it or actually contributing to it.
