What do I care anyway? What do I care, if the babies die and the mothers cry? What do I care?
It's not my life, after all! They're not my babies or my mothers! It's not my life!
The people who volunteer, want to go! Their loved ones don't try to stop them! Their country doesn't try to stop them!
Everyone keeps crying about how brave our troops are! Everyone keeps crying about how we have to support the troops! No one really knows why we're there anymore!
The grinding wheel keeps turning! Grinding flesh and bone! And no one has the nerve to say, enough!
Those who try to stop it are called cowards, and worse! Those who try to stop it are locked up or pushed out! Those who try the hardest are often turned-on by their own!
What's the point in caring about the folly of our neighbors? Perhaps they're reaping what they've sown! Perhaps they're getting exactly what they deserve!
Maybe all of this madness is God's plan! Maybe this is the beginning of an inevitable holy war! Maybe these are the End Times!
Why should I care, anyway? Why should I care if the world is on the edge of Hell? Why should I care?
Consume the Earth! Pollute the air and waters! Murder each other in the name of God!
Turn our young people into military robots! Put the uniforms and weapons on their bodies! Put the shades over their eyes!
Turn our young people into well-oiled machines! By the numbers, kick in that door, cover your six! Down on the fucking ground, Rag-head!
Have a beer! Put on some Rock and Roll! Call home and cry inside!
Why should I care how stupid we are? Why should I care if our stupidity kills us? Why should I care?
I don't have to go to war! I don't have to play soldier again! I don't have to go in harm's way!
Let the young, dumb, and numb ones go! So what, if a friend's son is going next month! So what, if my grandson goes in five years!
Jim Bush is a 61 year old, Vietnam-era veteran, currently living in Katy,Texas. He was raised in a military family. His father received the Silver Star for directing troops while under air attack at Clark Field in the Phillipines, survived the Bataan Death March, and spent three and a half years in a Japanese POW camp. He also received the Purple Heart for wounds received while a POW. Jim served as an army photographer in Okinawa and Korea. In 1987 he traveled to the war zones of Nicaragua with a veteran's group dedicated to stopping the Contra War.
I wonder if those unfortunate enough to survive world war III (nuclear) would finally get it. I really don't think so. Humans live to comfort and protect themselves and their own little worlds; to survive another day when reality tells them in so many ways that they are not ultimately in control and that we all start dying the day our physical life begins. When you are already dead spiritually what is physical death?

I sense your frustrations as mine. I like the poem and own the feeling.
Let's all buy our little grandson's a toy rifle and show him how to shoot and kill gooks or crouts or japs or what the fuck ever. And get them ready for sacrifice to the official Meat Grinder.
