Dear Vice President Gore:

Heartfelt congratulations on a well-deserved award, and reward, for your efforts not merely on behalf of the environment, but all those who will clean up the mess we make for generations to come. Bravo!

As one who was honored, and delighted to be at Senator Barbara Boxer's rally yesterday in San Francisco, I express my personal gratitude for your inspired remarks on the need for a moral imperative, historical perspective, as well as to "reclaim our democracy" from those who have now succeeded in demonizing the process that has been, for centuries, synonymous with human rights, and equal representation under the law.

On the train ride home, I sat next to a gentleman who was also at the Barbara Boxer rally. We talked about politics, and whether you would throw your hat into the ring. I said that some things transcend politics, and world peace is among them. This is something that you have always known, and is now being acknowledged.

It turns out that my new friend, on the train, happens to be an Episcopal priest. We both agree that your devotion to global warming, and the threat to our survival as a planet, is how you have chosen to serve not merely a mystical godhead, but humankind.

Life isn't always fair. It isn't fair that you "lost" the election, in 2000 even though you won the popular vote. It isn't fair not only for you, but for the country, as well. But, justice was served today. It is judicious, and right, for you to have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize as you are one whose service will continue as long as you share the same air as the rest of us on the planet. We may rest assured, too, that the air will be a whole lot cleaner now as a result of all your hard work..

Thanks from me, and those as yet unable to form those words.

Not deserved

Al Gore doesn't deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. All he did was give speeches about global warming and climate change. That has nothing to do with peace.

It was the Year 2000, not 2004

Gore lost in the year 2000, Kerry lost in 2004. Both elections were stolen from us by election fraud, voter suppression, e-machines, stopping of the re-count, purging of the rolls, moving of the polls, broken machines and not enough machines.

Gore seems to found a new and better calling, stopping global warming, and is most effective in that arena. God bless him. Both Gore and former President Carter are tremendous examples of what people can do when experiencing defeat and how to transform themselves and the world.

But if he runs, I will vote for him. But I won't be a part of a "draft Gore" movement.

Politics and peace

Perhaps transcendental politics is in the offing?  All I know is that any real solution to Global Warming, aside from a  miracle of scientific discovery, must come via the political sphere.

Jane, it was 2000 not 2004, that was the truly abysmal campaign of John Kerry. Rather than the partially abysmal campaign of Al Gore in 2000 (thanks Donna Brazile, thanks a heap)......

I have often pondered why Gore dropped out of the 2004 campaign so abruptly. As one who attended his speech at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, participated in several standing ovations, applauded his remarks with such fervor that my hands ached afterwards I was convinced of his fitness for the office he deserved so richly. A tale yet to be told I would think......

Correction

Wow, am surprised by the hostility to Al Gore, hmmm, could it be these guys are skeptical of the environmental damage we are doing, or just don't like Al Gore?  Well, I agree that world peace transcends politics and Al Gore once again proves sometimes presidents do more good outside of the dirty business of politics.  And yes, he should have been president, but it was 2000 and not 2004.

Al the Pure

Is Al Gore the cloak that the Messiah will wear during the Second Coming to this Earth?

Read these words by a recent poster that implies as such, "...you [Al the Pure] have chosen to serve not merely a mystical godhead, but humankind." Powerful words that imply both Divine and human influences - not unlike someone else history has known...

And yet perhaps this "Messiah of the Global Masses" is only a stalwart servant to the One because of his defeat in the 2000 election to the Spawn of Evil. Indeed and verily, the Archangel, John, was also defeated by the Evil One in the blessed year of 2004.

Oh, please! Mr. Gore puts his pants on just like the great many people out there in the world - one leg at a time. And I for one have become exhausted of the Bush/Clinton/Gore/Cheney representation of America for the past two decades.

Enough already! Just let the man reduce his carbon footprint by foregoing carbonated soft drinks for the remainder of his life; he's already a wee-bit too puffy for my liking.

coyoteA sentient being trapped in the American political diorama.

Gore's a magnificent hypocrite

Gore barely mentions the oil companies in his documentary. They receive only the briefest reference during a discussion of “global warming skeptics,” i.e., scientists funded by energy lobbyists to manufacture a “dispute” over the reality of global warming. Nowhere is there a discussion of the profit interests of the oil giants, or even a comment on the strong ties between these companies and the Bush administration. One encounters no mention of the secret Energy Task Force meetings chaired by Vice President Dick Cheney, held in 2001, in which energy companies worked out policy with administration officials and reportedly pored over maps of Iraqi oil fields.

Gore and the Democratic Party have no interest in drawing attention to the role of private profit in the devastation of the environment.

And don't forget this:

Gore’s Hypocritical Human Rights Stance Towards Colombia

by Garry Leech

Former Vice-President Al Gore has again exhibited a degree of political hypocrisy that is simply astounding. Last week, he continued his personal quest to re-cast himself as the leading spokesperson for the mainstream left in the United States when he cancelled a scheduled appearance as the keynote speaker at a conference on the environment because Colombia’s President Alvaro Uribe was also on the program. The problem, according to a statement issued by Gore, is that he finds accusations that Uribe is linked to right-wing paramilitary death squads “deeply troubling” and doesn’t want to appear with the Colombian president until “this very serious chapter in history is brought to a close.” However, when Gore was vice-president he apparently had no interest in bringing “this very serious chapter in history” to a close.

Where were Gore’s noble proclamations in defense of human rights when he was vice-president in the administration that made Colombia the world’s third-largest recipient of US military aid? This aid was provided to Colombia even though international human rights groups and the US State Department’s own annual human rights reports had documented the Colombian army’s close ties to the same right-wing paramilitaries whose alleged links to Uribe led Gore to so nobly snub the Colombian president last week.

As an elected official, Gore chose to repeatedly serve the interests of corporate America, including those of oil companies such as Occidental Petroleum, whose activities are closely related to both human rights abuses in Colombia and global warming. Colombia’s President Uribe deserves to be taken to task for his government’s links to paramilitary death squads. However, it is difficult to rally around a political opportunist like Al Gore whose own hands are covered in Colombian blood.

http://www.colombiajournal.org/colombia255.htm

It's not about expecting purity, which is a strawman used to deflect attention from Gore's abominable record, but about being an agent for justice and sanity. Al Gore has been nothing more than a spokesman for Corporate America for decades. This is amazing that anyone who has even a hint of his track record could yhink he is deserving of such an award. Then again the Nobel Prize is pretty much an award to validate the current global system.

Remember who went down to Haiti to read Aristide the riot act and tell him to get in line with the IMF? Is that what it takes to win awards these days? Well it takes far more and one could go on all day detailing all that Al has done in his political career and it ain't pretty.

Al Gore
2000 On The Issues

DEFENSE

"All my career, I have stood for a strong national defense. America must remain the world's strongest force for peace, freedom, free markets, and an ever-widening circle of human dignity everywhere." - Al Gore

A policy of Forward Engagement requires a strategic vision on how to transform the military to meet the challenges of the Global Era. The Clinton-Gore Administration created the first budget surplus in a generation, which has allowed the U.S. to make necessary investments in our national security. Today, the U.S. has the best-trained, best-equipped, most capable fighting force in the world. Al Gore will continue to strengthen the world's greatest military force by investing in people, deploying the most advanced technology, transforming the force to meet future challenges, and transforming the Pentagon.

INTRODUCTION

A strong national defense is central to protecting America and its interests abroad. Al Gore understands that the U.S. must have a military capability that is second to none - with the resources, technology, and the well-trained, well-equipped manpower to engage in conflicts where America's national interests are at stake. As President, Gore will devote part of our budget surplus to improve the pay and quality-of-life benefits to ensure that the U.S. military continues to recruit the highest caliber personnel; modernize our military equipment and invest in tomorrow's advanced weaponry; and improve the readiness of our troops to confront any conflict in a Global Age. Gore also knows the role that careful diplomacy and arms control can play in strengthening our national security. As President, he will work to stop the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. He supports developing the technology for a limited missile defense system to protect all 50 states from a missile attack - without undoing the progress that has been made through arms control with our former rivals. And he will resubmit the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty - and demand that the Senate ratify this important protection.

Hi
woodruff13Hi

Moral Imperative

I was also at the Boxer event yesterday.  The take-away that had the most power was the distinction between moral imperatives and politics.  Genocide is a moral imperative.  We confuse it with politics.   We should treat it as a moral imperative.

I hunger for a candidate that rises above the discorse we suffer thru today.  I am collecting signatures to get Gore on the California ballot, and encourage all to get involved in Draft Gore efforts in your own states.

Gore for president?

He brings to mind the old saying ‘one swallow doesn’t make it spring’ (one idea). His whole record needs close examination to make the determination that he is appropriate to be president.Gore come out once he wasn’t burdened with compromises and spin of going for President. Why should we think he wouldn’t be brought back into line by the reality of compromise were he to make a late run which I doubt he’ll make.

Gore is too smart

to run for President. Look at George the moron, does he look happy? Is he having fun? Has he accomplished much of anything?

But one thing I am sure of-- the polls that put Gore so low would change in a heartbeat if he declared he was running. The pundits who so smarmily observe that his poll ratings are low are unbelievably naive if they think those polls actually mean anything.

If Gore lost his mind and decided to declare, he'd have $10 million in the bank within a week, maybe $20 million and the pollsters would see some very different numbers. It's interesting that no-one does comparisons of Gore vs Giuliani, Thompson, Romney, etc.   I think he'd do better than Hillary or Obama. Not sure how he'd compare to Edwards.

One thing that the award has done is put Gore on another level, above the cretins who have  echoed energy company paid "scientists" who bash global warming. Even the judge in England who ruled that a statement should be included, that the film is political, agreed that on the whole it is accurate, that the challenged claims are minor compared to the primary message, and that the film was appropriate to show to children to educate them.

They come out of the woodwork, dont they?

I believe Gore refuses to enter the race because then his stance on global warming would become central to the contest. This way, with his abstention, he can keep the issue out of the political arena, at least to some extent, and continue to work as he does now.

I wonder at the vitriol engendered by the name Gore. It is almost as if he were Nader.....hee. Cut the guy some slack folks he is doing much better work now than he could in the oval office encumbered by our do nothing political climate.

Don't run, Al

The WashPost writes: "While an array of activists, politicians and business leaders have all called in recent years for more stringent limits on greenhouse gases linked to climate change, no one more than Gore has reshaped public perception of what was once a wonkish scientific debate. But for all that, the issue remains far down the priority list for Americans."

I don't think Al Gore should cave to the pressure to run until this changes. In my experience Americans do not appreciate anyone who tries to forced them out of a state of denial before they're ready. (We tried it in 2004 with a joint Canada-US chat website and got nothing but abuse.) A couple more Katrinas should do it.

Gore will only be 63 in 2012.

Glad to see some folks awake here.

Kudos to those who don't understand how Gore will help solve global warming by increasing military spending and pushing through more trade agreements that will let U.S. multinational corporations do whatever they want wherever they wish, while he focuses on reducing auto emissions by means of carbon offsets (shifting the responsibility around rather than actually doing anything).

Ready for a Gore/Hillary ticket? It will be just like old times in the White House. The war will continue, global warming will accelerate, but the U.S. economy will improve and nobody will complain.

Global Warming is a Blessing!

Yeah Al congratulations for the change and producing a movie about Global Warming. But does this change your other ideas you had when Vice President? I suspect you know you don't really deserve the award and is why you donated all the money. It is clear Al did not win but was one of many on a panel working to end Global Warming. So let's not kick around Al Gore. We are thankful for his mission on Global Warming, but somehow I don't think Global Warming would have been his message if he somehow managed to win in 2000 against Bush. Indeed his loss has made him in my opinion a better guy all around. I only wish Al was more hands on, and real about fixing the situation. Really Global Warming is NOT a bad thing. It is very good, if you consider the real reasons. Take a look at my article in this OpEd News-letter entitled :

Global Warming is a Blessing.

Perhaps Al we can work together in managing our atmosphere. Congrats Al, hope your change will allow the world to change in a positive direction too.

heat engines

I am happy for Al Gore and I think his Nobel Peace prize is well deserved. Before “An Inconvenient Truth” was released, I never thought too much about climate change. My family and I watched the documentary some time ago however, and as a result of this viewing, climate change and efficient power generation have become acceptable dinner table topics of conversation. Additionally, I spent four months studying solar collectors and different kinds of heat engines-even to a point of designing a diffuse light collector and water boiler that can generate high temperature super heated steam to run a 10 HP electric generator (i.e., more than enough power to run a typical household).

One of the best solutions for clean power generation is to use the sunlight from the vast areas of the American Southwest in conjunction with focused parabolic light collectors. Using heated oil from this system, it is possible to then run hot oil through heat exchangers to heat water into steam, which in turn fuels turbines/generators. Electric power can then be distributed across the entire US at a reasonable cost.

It may sound boring, but making more efficient turbines should be of paramount importance to combating Global warming. Internal combustion engines will never achieve more than about 35% efficiency, whereas Tesla turbines can achieve efficiencies of 60% to 90%. Tesla turbines are also relatively easy to build in a typical machine shop with common tools.

One mostly unrecognized fact is that rockets are the most efficient heat engines (97%). Recently, I had the idea of using a miniature rocket engine with kerosene permeated with micro bubbles of air (to use as an oxidizing agent) to fuel a Tesla turbine. Using this method, I think it would be possible to more than double the efficiency of current car engines. I’ve talked with the co-owner of the company that I work for about trying this (we currently make fuel pumps for large machinery), and he was at least open to the idea.

WOW!

I never imagined that posting the counter EVIDENCE, or statements demonstrating Gore's lack of evidence would be hidden...

funny thing about FREE SPEECH....

Anyway, Gore's movie was a work of FICTION...

He beat individuals like Rush Dimbaugh for the honor of being a peace prize winner!  What kind of FARCE is that???

Wanna know the real reason he won?  Because his bogus claims that humans are responsible for "global warming" here on Earth, when other planets in the solar system are experiencing the SAME global warming that we are, enables the governments of the earth, and the UN, to take our money for MORE FAILED political programs.

Dems talk about how Gush is scaring people with terrorism while they scare people with warming!

Should we look to decrease pollution? absolutely!  it makes sense to keep the planet as clean as we can...  Espcially since nobody wants to live in a filthy home...

words against Al Gore?  Al Gore is a LYING politician, I treat him the same way I treat other lying politicians...   Especially since he tells us how we are all poluting the environment, as he hops on board his PRIVATE jet to claim his prize for defending the environment???  and you people see him as a saint???

Quick question...  ARE YOU ALL BLIND?

 Ciao, CZ
