Don't you just love the way the White House calls virtually every dissident move by the Democrats, since the midterm election, "political theatre?" Well, talk about dramatic irony, key administration officials, the President, and First Lady even, are now calling upon China to intevene on behalf of Myanmar protestors, and Buddhist monks who have been getting slaughtered for speaking out against the military junta in the former Burma.

Somebody's short term memory is shot; after all, it was the Chinese who, in 1989, fired randomly into a crowd of protestors at Tiananmen Square kiling dozens. Now that China is officially a player, an anonymous administration honcho told The Washington Post that China has to keep their "clients" in check just like the other big bad empires.

Well, it looks like we can disabuse ourselves of the notion that Bush & Co's foreign policy is more a matter of ideology than political expediency while watching his Don Corleone approach to diplomacy. Who was it that said the only difference between organized crime and government is that organized crime pays better? (Well, they maybe didn't factor in the mega-bucks that military contractors rake in).

Those of us looking for fall foliage may have to wait until after January, 2009. But, think what you will, nobody can ever accuse this regime of not inventing anything--they're masters of duplomacy.

Don Corleone, etc..

I read "Don Corleone", but it at first registered in my brain as Don Coryell (former San Diego Chargers head coach). Still, given the looming threat of air strikes on Iran, "Air Coryell" probably works as an allegory for 'Bush diplomacy' (a splendid oxymoron if I've ever seen one) as well!

Did you catch Dana Perino's press conference today? Check out her comment relating to the protests in Burma: "And reports about very innocent people being thrown into detention, where they could be held for years without any representation or charges, is distressing." (Surely that little nugget will work it's way into a future JLS post?)

Is the Bush Administration completely oblivious to its own hypocrisy? Oh, I forgot, we only detain bad 'folks', never innocent people!

Bush is an outsource kind of guy

Well, Bush's ideology and modus operandi have been consistent. He makes no secret whom he serves - his serves God in all matters of consequence and Big Biz in all matters of practicality.

First - God. He hit Saddam, Islamo-Facist and anybody in-between including the Democrats. His is simply doing God's work.

Now Big Biz. The mantra of Big Biz is profit thru outsourcing. That' why Bush outsource half of the Iraq war - very profitable for his friends. The modus operandus for diplomacy, eh duplomacy - is to outsource it to those he owes money. He has only one diplomatic agenda - go around the world and kick ass in the name of democracy. Let's take Castro - he outsourced that to the Canadians. Chevaz - he dares not kick his ass, his fellow oilman despite the unkind words. But if Bush wants to do diplomacy with Chevaz, he would outsource it to Brazil. What about the hot middle east? Of course he has already outsourced that to Tony Blair! Now comes Burma. He needs to talk big about kicking some general's ass there. The perfect country to outsource that to is, of course, China. That's a no-brainer. He owes China one trillion dollars and his boss, Big Biz, are all over China.
