I'm an 81 year old widow, of close to eight years. Still have an active (and social activist) mind. With six offspring,I've spent a good part of my life so far, raising a family, and enjoying the fruits of their own families. Sixteen Grand kids and six Great, with two more due. My favorite quotation is 'Nothing By Chance.' It's from a book by Richard Bach. The signature at the bottom of my e-mail is "Walk in peace, balance and harmony."

Keep it going, works for hte repubs.

This story really plays well for the repubs, in fact the whole administration. They will keep it going for a while. We need to get back to the real issues, and let this one play out after the ethics committee decides how to handle it. Let's put our indignation in the bigger stories here. I'm not saying forget foley, just get back to the situation in Iraq, where our service people are dying in record numbers, as are the Iraqi people. The reports of the lies that put us there are very important. We seem to be grasping at straws, but at least some of us are grasping. Let's grasp at the bigger straws, guys.

Can you be so sure?

There is no denying that this story has deflected attention from the Iraq death-fest...err I mean war. However, I think it's wrong to say that the attention Foleygate is receiving is bad.

Firstly, it brings to the fore the mendacity and hypocrisy of the Republicans in congress. While other congressional scandals have done much the same thing, this one is different. Like it or not, America can't get enough of the lurid. This scandal is going to be in the public eye for years to come. One need only look at the response to it to know just how much it's shaking the Republican Party, literally to their core.

The investigation committee is already formed, and has sent out at least forty subpoenas on the issue. That's forty more than have been sent out in reference to Abramoff, or any of the other scandals that have rocked congress. That's pretty impressive, and points out just how scared the Republicans are at this point in time.

Second, this issue is not going to fade by the time the midterms roll around. Oh sure, they are wanting it to take "weeks, not months" to complete the investigation, but forgive me for saying I can't see how they can even hope to give this one speed. With forty subpoenas already written, and more sure to follow, this thing could drag on a while.

That's good for America. It almost guarantees a change in congress. That change in congress might be just what's needed to call the DUBYA regime on the carpet about the lies of the Iraq War, the treasonous action of outing Valerie Plame, the botched clean-up effort and initial response to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and so many other crimes of which he is guilty.

Yes, there's still an elephant in the room. Yes, he's still shitting all over the carpet, trampling the furniture, and dropping peanut shells everywhere. However, this scandal might just be the catalyst that opens a hole big enough in the wall to get that nasty elephant back outside, where he belongs.

Let's not mistake a temporary attention deflection for a complete loss of will for the removal of the criminal element resposible for the Iraq War. Believe me, I want DUBYA, Dick(LESS) Cheney, Dumbsfeld, Oreo Rice, and Hot Karl sent packing as much now as I ever have. I will still do the happy dance on the day I see them all put in prison garb and placed next to Bubba, the gay biker.

No, I have not forgotten about the Iraq War. I just see Foleygate and its fallout as a wondrous means to the end of cleaning house in congress. Not only has it shown to America the depth of hypocrisy swirling around the Republican Party, it has also shown to what lenghts they will go to spin lies, deflect attention, and place blame anywhere but at their own doorstep.

Remember how after the disastrous response to Hurricane Katrina, all and sundry that carried a Neo-con stripe were saying, "this is no time to play the 'blame game'?" Has anyone but me noticed that is exactly what's happening now? When it casts them in a bad light, the last thing they want to do is place blame. When they think it will cast them in a more favorable light, it's the first thing they do. Add to that the fact the spin alchemists are working overtime trying to turn this batch of elephant shit into gold, and you can tell this scandal has really, REALLY turned up the heat under the collective asses of the Republican Party and their power elite.

I think the last word that can be used to describe the condtion of the "Establishment" on this issue is "elated". I think "scared shitless" is a much better way to put it.

Blessed be!
Pappy
