Gonzales the Liar

The snippets of the Senatorial hearings I saw yesterday with Senators Arlen Spector and Patrick Leahy expressing, for the nation, their contempt for Alberto Gonzales were enough, so much more than enough that I cannot imagine what is keeping the House from initiating impeachment of this treasonous and corrupt little man.  I know that Nancy Pelosi, who with every day becomes the symbol of Democratic treasons all by herself, has said that SHE does not want to bother with these men—Cheney, Gonzales, Bush—but the fact is that she is afraid of them.  She is inadequate and being the first of her gender in the job of Speaker, about to prove that it was a bad idea to put her into the job.  She just does not have the moral courage for it!

Her colleague Representative Conyers is a piece of work.  He says he does not have 218 votes for impeachment.  How does he know?  Does any prosecutor know how the jury is going to vote?  Isn't it clear that Nancy Pelosi's dictum warps the count?  Of course it is clear!  That is what is so utter frustrating about her arrogant and misguided, TREASONOUS decision.

Rob Kall, at OpEdNews, is probably correct.  We need to organize differently.  If Sheehan is going to run against Pelosi as an independent—which is advisable, since the Democratic machine in the Pelosi District is going to support her even if she turns out to be on the list with Vitter, then we need to get behind Sheehan and make enough noise in California that Mrs. Pelosi gets the drift.

I supported this woman, but I have withdrawn that support categorically.  She is the problem now, and her intransigent stance on impeachment is, in fact, treasonous, if you count failure to abide by the Constitution treason.  I do.  You do.  So, the matter has gotten to this mid-summer pass.  She must reverse herself—and Gonzales is the obvious person to do it with—or she must be removed from the House.  Period.  If all politics is local, then we must hit her where she lives.  People of San Francisco, we want to hear from you.  Comments please.

I totally agree. There's no excuse for Pelosi's protection

of these criminals. It's treason -- one should make no mistake about that. The Constitution is on the line, and she's pretending not to recognize it.

Faced with the worst pack of gangsters this country has ever seen, Pelosi & the Democrats refuse to confront them. I'm not surprised by this, since it's very much in line with the real character of the Democratic Party.

Democrats read the polls, so they're probably aware that moving seriously towards impeachment & getting rid of scum like Gonzales would not only be "doing the right thing," but would also be immensely popular. It may seem perplexing on the surface that they'd insist on protecting criminals (which makes them even less popular than Bush), when they're being handed on the proverbial silver platter an opportunity to destroy their Republican rivals, & to be electorally rewarded for it.

However, to go after the Bush Mafia in any serious way would raise issues of their own complicity in the Bush crimes, and would call into question the legitimacy of the 2-party system. The Dems fear that more, than they fear the damage being done to the country & Constitution.

It's relevant to this that the leading (ie, corporate-backed) Dem presidential candidates have already laid out the basics of their positions. None of them has said a word in support of impeachment; Obama has explicitly rejected it. Therefore, if Pelosi reversed course on impeachment at this stage of the game, she'd be undercutting Hillary, Obama & Edwards. She's locked herself into this position, & is clearly unable to see a way out. She doubtless just wishes it would all go away.

I live across the Bay from San Francisco. If there's a 2008 8th district campaign, I'd be happy to go into the city to work for Sheehan, to help remove Pelosi from office. Pelosi is as unfit for her position as the Bush mob is for theirs.

Pelosi perfidy

I've sent the following letter to Rep Pelosi:

Rep. Pelosi;

I supported your election and your Speakership.  I herewith categorically withdraw all support for you, and will be working for the election of Cindy Sheehan in 2008 to take your place in the House of Representatives.

Your continued refusal to consider impeachment of Cheney and Bush stands as testament to your unfitness for your job. How on earth can you declare impeachment is "off the table" when  impeachment itself, including the reasons justifying it and the means of its enactment, is IN the Constitution?  What else in the Constitution is in line to be taken "off the table"?  The Bill of rights, perhaps?

The oath you swore to uphold the Constitution was not a slective one.  You swore to uphold and defend ALL of it. You have broken your oath of office, and are now as much a threat to our Constitutional Republic as the Bush and Cheney administration. I will work diligently to see you are replaced.

Sincerely,

Jasper Sneed

I await her reply.  Meanwhile, please join me in supporting and actively working for the Sheehan campaign.
