The word went out to activists all over Florida. Local chapters of national organizations, NOW, CODE PINK, Veterns for Peace, and just a bunch of us motley "others".
Due to a "lack of communication" some went to the east side (about 150) of the venue, some went to the west side (I counted 85). Didn't matter. We had people, signs, bullhorns, music, chants, virtually surrounding the Buc's Stadium.
We saw the Hummers, the Mercedes SUV's, the Jaguars as they flowed into the stadium to eat their $1,000. Republican Pie. We got the finger (how original), the thumbs down (through firmly closed car windows), and the cops shoo, shooed us off the sidewalk in front and across the street where we couldn't "offend" the guests.
Anyhoo, it was great to meet NEW people. Yes, NEW people. A Mom, 3 kids, a red wagon with a boom box playing Eve of Destruction just loud enough to sing along.
And we talked about despair. How it may well be impossible to turn this national nightmare back from the abyss of a Governmental Lockdown. We wondered if we'd even get the chance to vote on November 7th. The situation is dire.
But one thing we all agreed on, and committed to, was attending an October 5th Event. Maybe Orlando, or Tampa Bay. One couple is even going to New York.
We all agreed that October 5th may be the last day we EVER have to gather in large numbers and stand up, stand out, stand fast to our committment to this country and our Consititution.
Do a simple thing today. Make yourself an iron-on T-shirt. Ya'll know how to do that. All it really has to say is.... OCTOBER 5th www.worldcantwait.org. Iron it on some old favorite ragged t-shirt you meant to throw away but wear every chance you get. Wear it everywhere you go. Wear it to bed.
If October the 5th is the largest mass protest in our Nations history, you'll have a piece of it. You'll be a part of it.
If October the 5th, goes by unoticed by the media, supressed by the police, well then you can store it in private and wait for the Bush Regime to choke our liberty to death. Can't you feel their hands squeezing your neck?
If you are afraid to protest, you're not alone. We're all afraid. Terrorists are nothing compared to 3 rows of riot cops.
