We Eat Our Own, Don't We?

We eat our own around here don't we?

This is why the right-wing thinks were a joke. But at the same time, it just might be why we're a perfect antidote to their knee-jerk lock-step dance of doom.

If the wake of the "great cave-in" of 2006 by Congressional Democrats Cindy Sheehan has now officially resigned as the "Face of the Antiwar Movement". BBC reporter Greg Palast has seen fit to blast back as Dkos having learned that it's "Hard out here for an Internet Pimp"

No shit, dude.

Hannity's gonna have a field day with this one.

Pardon me while I ramble a bit, but I have a point to make in here somewhere.

The other day I wrote about the sociopathology of conservatism, but it's not like Liberals are free of their own self-destructive pathologies is it?

We have a tendencies to be our own worst enemy. Republicans accuse us of being "cut and runners" and what do we do... Cut and RUN out on our principles. Jimmy Carter stands up and tells the truth, then immediate backs down and scampers away like a beaten little mouse.

Oh - "I didn't mean it". "I was mis-interpreted" "Taken out of context"

Oh, Bullshit.

I know it can be enough to make you pull your hair out even if don't have any hair.

Cindy Sheehan bitches out Congress for backing down against the President, then she backs down.

Oi vey.

Look, I don't blame Cindy for making this decision - she has to live her own life and frankly she's given far more of herself to help to protect the lives of so many other people's children than anyone should ever ask or expect. She deserves a chance to rotate back from the front lines of the War against the War.

It just looks so bad...

Hey guys, remember that We Won the Congress just few months ago? There's still hope that we can end this war, there still hope that we can undo at least some of the damage that George Bush has inflicted on this nation and the world.

Been around the block a few times.
Blue PilgrimBeen around the block a few times.

Not exactly...

You say "Hey guys, remember that We Won the Congress just few months ago?", but see -- "we" didn't win congress -- we gave it to the rival gang. Now that's a good thing -- we can play 'divide and conquer" too. But the Democrats were never on our side (except for a very few), they are on their side -- they want to be the fascist's fair haired boys and girls, sit by the table, and get first dibs on the scraps.

As for sides of the fence, there are many sides. MY side was never really with the Democrats because the Democrats were never really with me; they are imperialists -- 'kinder, gentler' imperialists, but imperialists all the same, and not on the side of peace, justice, and the people.

Now, it didn't surprise me (or many others) that the Democrats voted to continue the war and steal the oil (and after, all don't forget the illegal no-fly zones and the sanctions under Clinton which amount to siege warfare and genocide), but that doesn't mean they didn't betray the people, including me -- and for that I'm perhaps even more furious at the Democrats than the Republicans who at least were semi-transparent about being gangsters.

Some Democrats are better than others: Carter has better intentions although he's muddle-headed and too easily succumbs to temptation. Lieberman still has one foot in the pits of Hell -- but so does Pelosi and Reid, despite the fact that they are much better at confidence games than raw extortion (although we've seen that from them too).

But let's face it -- any Democrat who is still with the party -- still gives it support -- is either insane, ignorant, stupid, or corrupt to some extent. Even more so for Republicans. People are imperfect, of course, so this is not quite the scathing condemnation it might seem -- we have all been one of those four at one time or another -- but let's not play games and try to rationalize it or pretend that's not the case. Anyone who is "enlightened" and suffers from none of those faults can not be expected to get into imperialist politics, and even more, to get past even the demons guarding the first gate of the upper circle of that Hell.

I've seen a number of comments about "giving up" to refer to those who are breaking all ties to the Democratic party, but that's missing an important point -- the world is not composed of politics anymore than it's composed of money, or words, or laws. Did you ever notice how the politicians solution to virtually every problem is to pass a law against it? Law, to a politician, is like a hammer to the carpenter who thinks everything is a nail. Law is useful, of course, but it's not the beginning of process and problem solving, but only, sometimes, an end result. The beginning is thought, awareness, feeling, consciousness, and pressure either form the people or from 'special interests'. The Civil Rights Act was wonderful, but that resulted from centuries of work by the people who understood the injustice and worked to get everyone to understand it and declare it unacceptable.

That's the real work we need to do, and it has nothing to do with cleaving to a political party -- especially a corrupt party. "When the student is ready the master appears", and when the people are ready the good party, the good government, and the good laws appear. If the people were truly ready for peace then someone like Bush, and the other gangsters, would have been universally laughed off the podiums of debates, and the garbage the media put out would have been an object of derision by the vast majority of citizens. There are people reading here who had those reactions, who understood it all from the start, and now there are more who understand, and that number grows. That's the Work.

"'we' didn't win congress"

As you say, exactly. How odd that most Americans cannot even see your point let alone affirm it. Many progressives that do see your point still consider it to be technical. ... Anyway, I wanted to mention that you didn't address one of Cindy's main points -- that America is really not worth fighting for anymore.

Citizen of the US and the world!  I want my country back!

Make Them Eat Theirs

I think the wrong lesson to learn from the passage of the recent 'emergency' war funding bill is that Democrats didn't try. The wrong reaction is to attack the Dems and ignore the Republicans and RNC so that they can set up the 2008 races. They will use opposition research to paint Dem candidates in the worst possible light, they don't need more help from us because they obviously already have the media. I'm afraid I'm seeing the beginning of the end of the Dem majority if people don't get their heads on straight. The concept of 'divide and conquer' is alive and well in the GOP and they're using it right now.  The more we focus on the Dems and the decision we dislike the more room it gives the Republicans to change the topic and reframe it (Luntz again) so that they have the upper hand.  Get out there and focus on the Republicans!

I understand there is heartfelt disappointment by the 'anti-war' crowd, which happens to include me and over 70% of Americans now.  This is not a left/right issue anymore but the media still portrays it that way because it follows their script and we play into it.  The media like the concept of a fight, especially when Dems and Progressives continue to fight among themselves.  Face it, this makes for great GOP/RNC TV.  There will be a lot of moderate Republicans joining the Dems if they see a united front. The White House, the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee (which unfortunately includes Lieberman), and their counterparts in the Republican House are licking their lips and rubbing their hands together watching the Dems hand them 2008.

What better way to keep the pressure off Republican candidates than to keep dividing the Democrats! Then the RNC/GOP can spend all their time and money putting the focus on the Dems because they won't have to defend themselves or their positions against any real and powerful opposition.  If you really want to change things, stop eating your own!

All the time and energy being expended on Dems attacking Dems would be better spent going after the 21 Republican Senators (and over 200 House Republicans that are listed below) who are up for re-election in 2008. With a wider margin, face it one is not enough, in the Senate the Democratic Congress becomes much more powerful and can override anything the Republicans, with Lieberman's help, can throw up. You can't win if your cutting your own party to ribbons (internal Swiftboating). The Senators/States in play are:

Lamar Alexander (R) of Tennessee
Thad Cochran (R) of Mississippi (possibly retiring 2008)
Wayne Allard (R) of Colorado (possibly retiring 2008)
Larry Craig (R) of Idaho (possibly retiring 2008)
Chuck Hagel (R) of Nebraska
John Warner (R) of Virginia
Saxby Chambliss (R) of Georgia (vote caging/electronic vote machines)
Norm Coleman (R) of Minnesota
Susan Collins (R) of Maine
John Cornyn (R) of Texas
Elizabeth Dole (R) of North Carolina
Pete Domenici (R) of New Mexico
Michael Enzi (R) of Wyoming
Lindsey Graham (R) of South Carolina
Jim Inhofe (R) of Oklahoma
Mitch McConnell (R) of Kentucky (minority leader wife runs Labor Dept)
Pat Roberts (R) of Kansas (lied about Intelligence investigations)
Jeff Sessions (R) of Alabama
Gordon Smith (R) of Oregon
Ted Stevens (R) of Alaska
John Sununu (R) of New Hampshire (vote caging)

The only way this horrible war (in which I have three relatives fighting) can be stopped is to go on the attack against the GOP/RNC so that sufficient majorities are available in Congress to push legislation through that will make difference.

The following list includes all Republican incumbent House members up for re-election in 2008.  Let's put pressure on THEM starting today and NOT ending until we see the door hit them in the butt on the way out.
